Mount Sunapee

Post by Brad Harris »

I just went to the cafeteria at work to grab a drink and overheard a radio ad that said "and nine holes of disc golf just opened..."

Apparently this was an ad for Mount Sunapee, their website says this course just opened on July 21. Has anyone here been involved with this? Has anyone played it yet?

I think fellow GMDGCers Nick Jennings and James Beaulieu (effed the spelling, i am sure) are involved in that. Not sure if they will be at N. Calais, but I think that's what I remember from chatting with someone earlier in the year.

Good job w/the spelling Ira.
It's true, Mt Sunapee has the front nine open. They will trickle open the back nine and have all complete by Labor Day. Niick and I are planning to get a tournament there sometime this fall. Probably not a NEFA points due to the full schedule but I think it's gonna be one you don't want to miss. From talking with the mountain folks, they have plenty of great sponsors for all of their activities so there could be some great swag for all.
If you are in the area check out the front nine(3055 ft), you're gonna want to walk back up and play it again(it's only about 300 yards from basket of 9 to tee of 1)
This is a fun course, I promiss any disc golfer will like it.

James, how far is Sunapee from Pinnacle?

Mt. Sunapee is about 12 minutes from Pinnacle if you know the shortcut, if not it's about 15 minutes. Were really excited to have a second course close by.

3 of us trekked up to NH this morning, James and Gary were nice enough to meet Tomaaay, Rob and myself at Pinnacle and then we headed over to Sunapee for a round in the rain......the front nine at Sunapee is as nice as I've seen.....you meander your way down the mountain, playing holes that are not only challenging but are also very comfortable to look at off the tee......the signature hole is the 740? ft par 4 8th hole......we really enjoyed ourselves in spite of the rain...... James has a definate knack for course design, I can't wait to play the Bachnein.....I mean back nine.......anyway, nice course, good times......next time Ahhtaay will be with us :P

I just played there yesterday. It's a fun course. I recommend not missing the ski lift like I did as it's quite a hike up the hill if you're out of shape like me. Once on the top of the south peak you're ready to go. It's a well marked course in my opinion but I do have one question about hole 8. Hole 8 is a 700 ft downhill par three which is wide open but if you get into the woods then you'll definitely be in trouble. I'm sure there are plenty of Nefa-ites who can par this hole but I think after it's all said and done it should be changed to a par four. Watch out for the bees on hole 7 as I got stung twice. Just to clarify I believe this is the third course in the area, Pinnacle, Sunapee, and Mt. Sunapee. :D

All 18 are in and playable. Just played last weekend. Not sure when they are going to stop the lift but I'm sure it'll be soon. You can walk to the top, it's not too bad of a walk. They will pull a couple of baskets for the winter, I expect that to happen soon as they are gearing up for the ski season.

Titan, there is a likely GMDGC tourney taking place in May. I think that would be a good time to see the course at its best. Event details will be finalized, along with the full GMDGC series schedule in the next few weeks...
