The event will be a combined disc golf and poker tournament. One round of disc golf will be played in the morning. Your opening chip stack will be determined by your finish in the disc golf round. Early afternoon, the poker tournament will begin. Immediately following the poker tournament, the banquet will begin, along with the 2012 NEFA Awards Ceremony (have your acceptance speeches ready).

PM sent to Whit.

In other news, a flier will be posted shortly with all the details for the entire event. Payout information will be posted as well, prior to the event based on a field of 90 players. The typical payout for these types of events are 9 people. However, we will likely pay much deeper and more in line with our style of disc golf payouts (30%-40%). Not sure what people would prefer in that regard.

George said he will look into a weekend lodging package for people that want to stay the weekend starting Friday night.

Also, we have our first silent auction item. If you have something you want to bring to auction off, please let me know.

Registration will be available Monday. Payout info will be posted based on estimated attendance, and at first glance, it's juicy!

How are the divisions broken down? Men/Women, Pro/AM, one big division?

What is the starting chip stack for someone who doesn't play the round of disc, compared to someone who does?

I believe shaun, that we are offering every division, men, women pro and am and maybe juniors too ( but they wont be able to play the poker).
If you just show up to the poker, you will get the lowest chip stack, but if you win you would get the highest. we havent figured out the stack percentages on it ( we got rob on that we think). But everyone will have a chance to add chips to there stack for a little add-on.
Matt might answer on it too.

The menu right now is looking like southern BBQ, and the plan was to smoke/roast a full hog. The problem is that we don't have a full grill/smoker at Charlton Woods. I wonder if Keith Burtt has anything? Anyway, we will likely have a vegitarian option, sides, dessert, alt beverage, and a keg or two depending on how many people are there. I've asked Sandy to firm up the details on the food and get that info posted.

Registration will be up tonight.

LaForce, I'm consulting with Rob to find out what the best way to spread out the chips. It wouldn't be so significant that the winner of the disc golf division would have an overwhelming chip advantage, to encourage people that can't make it for the disc to still join in the fun. Details about that and payout will be posted ASAP.

I can almost always get an unlimited supply of free vegetarian Italian sauage, smoked sausage and make believe burgers. If someone would tell me how much and give me some time to grab them of the production line I'm sure I can get them down to "The Woods".

Just let me know.

Also if any of you vegetarians are looking for some free product just let me know.....

In terms of the chip differential between first place and the last place in the division (those that show up for poker and did not play disc golf in the AM will get the lowest chip stack) will be a difference of $1,000 in chips. Depending on the numbers in the divisions, it will be structured to reward those that finish in the top 5-10 in each division.

An example would be:

1st place - 3500
2nd place - 3400
3rd place - 3300
4th place - 3200
5th place 3100
6th place and below ... 2500

Remember, there is also the option to purchase an additional 1000 in chips for $25 if you want to increase your opening chip stack.

transparency questions:

banquet for charity

1. what charities will money be raised for?
2. why isn't 100% of the poker payout going to charity, or at least 50%!
3. what do the entry fees pay for aside from food / greens fees?
4. as a nefa member, who pays dues, why would I want to spend more money at a season's end banquet?

It's truly a fundraiser for NEFA, not a charity auction like in year's past. All funds raised will be going to NEFA, to continue our mission of giving back to courses in the area.

1. what charities will money be raised for?
NEFA is the only organization getting money.

2. why isn't 100% of the poker payout going to charity, or at least 50%!

To draw people to play in this. A lot of research was done into the running of this type of event. People expect some sort of payout. If people put up $50 to play a round of disc golf and then a poker tournament, and got nothing in return, the expectation was that not a lot of people would attend. The percentage that typical charity poker tournaments payout is 70%. We decided to go closer to the 50/50 and have 40% going to NEFA, and 60% going to payout.

3. what do the entry fees pay for aside from food / greens fees?

If the person pays for the DISC/POKER:
$50 goes towards poker. ($30 goes towards payout, $20 goes towards NEFA fundraising)
$10 goes towards facility usage fees.

4. as a nefa member, who pays dues, why would I want to spend more money at a season's end banquet?

I would hope it would be for the same reasons that people attended the auction in the past. First ask why do you join NEFA? Is it for the point series, or is it to be a part of the mission statement in addition to the point series? The reason why you would spend more money is to help raise money for the cause. Our annual dues are very low and will not sustain the mission of the organization. Further fundraising efforts will always be needed to continue growth of the organization.

Hope this answers your questions, but please let me know if anyone needs further information.

I'm checking right now to confirm if players involved with the poker need to be 18+. I know there are a few members that are under the age of 18. If we need to restrict to those that are 18+, you can play the disc golf portion, and have someone of age sit at your seat at the poker table. You will not be able to give your chips to someone else that is already part of the event. Will let everyone know ASAP the status of this.

thanks Matt.

Personally, the grassroots efforts of NEFA and its ability to bring people together and raise money
for charities, tornado victims, etc is what most impresses me and brings me back.

Obviously my questions were based upon a wrong view of the event as a charity fundraiser. (outside of NEFA)

Updated the list. I've heard a lot of people say that they are in for this. Let's see some people sign up!

Here is an updated list of what's on the menu for Saturday night:

Smoked Pulled Pork sandwiches
Homemade cole slaw
Pasta Salad: Tri-color pasta with grilled veggies
Vegetarian sausage and 'burgers'
Brownies

In addition, three different types of beer will be on hand.

What about the silent auction? So far, I've heard from a couple people that they will bring something good to auction off. One item that I can't post about yet, is sure to draw some bids from the crowd, and should not be missed. If you have something that you would like to donate for the auction, please update us in advance. We can start the bidding on items ahead of time if we know what will be on hand. Even if it's a few tournament stamped discs from your local club.
