I think, if players manage to earn invites in multiple regions they will take their home region first.

Black Falls is not a NEFA event. Are non-Nefa events still going to be part of the qualifers? Also wondering about the Advanced Grandmaster Division, in the past the Green Mountain Point Series events haven't offered this division. Is this going to change for the qualifiers?

Wait a second. Timeout. You mean to tell me that there is a limited number of NEFA events regionally which can be used as a NEC qualifier? If so, why?

Yes, you as a MA resident, have only 9 events to qualify for the New England Disc Golf Championship. Your best 4 event finishes will be used.Arty Graustein wrote:Wait a second. Timeout. The regular season points system will remain the same as it's always been.
Because the Finals event had become a bit stagnant and needed a way to improve attendance.Arty Graustein wrote:If so, why?

How far is Hylands from Maple Hill? A half hour south?...
After a long day at Maple Hill, not sure I ( as a Vermonter driving north) would head south to Hyland for awards. That would mean an extra hour+ added on to a long drive home. Just my 2 cents.... I would rather see everything( rounds and awards) at one venue, or 2 venues that are closer together.
and Nyles... I will bring up the topic of adding an Am Grandmasters division to folks on the board. We offer a Pro GM division, so I think we should also offer an Am GM division. We should be able to make that addition to the GMPS for 2013!

True, it's 36 minutes southwest.......but wouldn't it be a bit closer to the northbound expressway(I-91) that I figure most VTers would take?
I agree that it's an inconvenience to have awards at a separate location but the details with prize vendors and other post-tourney stuff makes this configuration a better fit.

Chris, Hylands is 25 Min west and a touch south. If you google map it, both locations are about the same distance for you. Hylands is very close to Rt 84 and the Mass Pike.

Re: New England DGC Regional Qualifiers
I still have a couple of questions which I haven't seen answered yet.
1. What is the divisional breakdown for invites? NH/VT has 15 invites each for pro and am, how will those be divided across the divisions?
2. I still have seen nothing documenting how these qualifiers are being used to determine invites. Will it just be based NEFA points at those events, or some other system?
3. For NH/VT is there a minimum number of events or is one event enough? As spread out as those four are, it wouldn't be a stretch to think that a lot of people will only be able to make it to one of the four this year.
4. Bellamy is listed as a qualifier but isn't even on the NEFA calendar. Any word on when this will be?

Re: New England DGC Regional Qualifiers
The super 8 Motel is 3 minutes from Hylands. $55/night. Hopefully players can make the awards and stay the night. We were not able to find a centrally located venue that: can accomodate 180 players, allow an outside vendor on property, has shelter, and has bathrooms. The Maple Hill/Hyland combo still is our best option.
Brad, your state rep will allocate invites among divisions. Each region has a lot of flexibility on how they run their series and allocate spots.

Want to first state that members from a smaller region can choose to compete in a larger region as their qualifier. For those that are close to a border of a larger region, you can let the coordinator know that you will be competing for a spot in that region.
1. That is up to the coordinators to discuss and work out. I will bring it up to the committee and make sure the discussion picks up.
2. Most of the events are NEFA points events and will use the NEFA points as the determining factor.
3. There is no minimum, but there is a max of X number of events. Meaning, you could play in a single event, win it, but still not make the NEDGC because others are using their top 4.
4. Contact the TD or regional coordinator directly.

This is not the answer to the question I was asking. I was asking why is there a limited number of NEFA events that can be used within each region to qualify for the final? Okay so its the NEDGC now. What is the incentive for a TD to make his event NEFA sanctioned if it doesn't even help to get the players playing it a chance to qualify for the final? Yes I know it helps the players in the season long standings, but other than that what good is the sanctioning? I know that I as a player would choose to play an event that may help me qualify for the final over an event that would not. I am not signed up for the Devens tourney as I couldn't make it that weekend, but if I was I wouldn't be happy about this circumstance. It's NEFA sanctioned - it should count.Because the Finals event had become a bit stagnant and needed a way to improve attendance.

Re: New England DGC Regional Qualifiers
Arty, Regional Qualifiers take fewer event to make it to the NEDGC. In previous years it took a larger number of events to qualify for NEFA finals. Some thought it was too hard to qualify for finals as they couldn't make that many events. We are trying to make it easier for the best of the best to qualify.
The New England DGC is just starting out and we want to make it the best we can. Any input people have is appreciated and will help us develop the series. Keep the discussions going.

@ Arty. The NEDGC is not the Nefa Points Finals. The NEDGC is a seperate event, designed to attract NEFA's top players in all divisions. Each region will send it's best players to compete. The NEDGC's affiliation with NEFA, is partially designed to grow NEFA membership outside of Masachusetts. The NEDGC will be a premier event, and you must be a NEFA member to attend. This will grow NEFA and provide a tournamnet that will blow away any previous "finals" event,

I've been following the thread. I know what you are trying to do (and I support it). I just don't see why every NEFA points series event within each region can't be used as a qualifier. It doesn't water anything down. If anything it gives a larger sample size to choose from. You are still only taking a maximum number of players from each region.

Separate event, but still funded primarily through the NEFA points series. I definitely see where Arty is coming from in questioning why one would play any NEFA points event that isn't also a NEDGC qualifier. I'd question why a TD would want to run a NEFA points event that isn't also a qualifier for the NEDGC. So they can be forced to send $0.40 per player to an event to which they have zero ties? Why not send $0.40 per player to the USDGC, too?
Other side of the same coin...NEDGC qualifiers not having to be NEFA series events. There will be events that are going to help determine participants in the NEDGC without having to contribute a dime to it. Guess the presumption is this is going to be balanced out by the funding from the non-qualifier NEFA points events?
I get the desire to shake things up. I just think the shaking is going to take down the NEFA Points Series in short order.

Then there is no difference to what NEFA finals is and what the NEC will be. The NEC puts more emphasis on certain events which makes it much harder to pick and choose and makes the competition that much better.

Re: New England DGC Regional Qualifiers
Bummer - Just typed a long reponse and lost it....
As a TD, I was disappointed that the players signed up for the Devens Tournemant will not be able to use that as a qualifier. It is my fault though because I did not take the time to read through the qualifier discussions until the schedule came out. At that time, I was surprised to see that only a select few were chosen as qualifiers. I had incorrectly assumed that all NEFA events could be used as a qualifier.
As a player, I was disappointed because as much as I would like to play every weekend I just simply can't. I am usually good for 1 tournament per month. I now will likely have to choose a qualifer tournament over an event that might be closer to home/run by a friend/new course that I have been wanting to try/etc if I want to have any chance at playing in the finals event (which I want to do).
I appreciate all the hard work that goes into organizing all of this stuff. It's hard enough handling one event and a league so I can only imagine. I'm sure that over time it will grow into something fair and great but I just wanted to offer my perspective.

Re: New England DGC Regional Qualifiers
Craig Cutler wrote:This is a work in progress but I really think NEDGC revitalizes NEFA membership in ME, NY, NJ,CT.
Revitalize NEFA, the Point Series, or the Finals (now NEDGC)? Seems to me the only thing that might be revitalized is the Finals/NEDGC. The Points Series as it is now isn't going to be revitalized in Maine with the current set-up. And without the series, the only memberships NEFA likely gets out of Maine might end up being the folks who qualify for NEDGC (and not until after they qualify).
Last year Maine only had two NEFA Points tournaments, and zero players who qualified for finals. The non-NEFA Points requirement for NEDGC qualifying is probably going to kill off the series entirely in Maine, even if it manages increase the number of players at the finals/NEDGC.
The DDGC, which has been a NEFA points event for all 12 years of its existence, is not going to be NEFA Points this year. The changes to the series and the NEDGC has removed all incentive for me to make it a part of the series any longer. It will be an NEDGC qualifier, however. I can't imagine that if I'm not seeing the value in continuing to be a part of the series, other TDs will want to join in. Particularly if they can still be NEDGC qualifiers anyway.
