Tour guide needed-Barre Falls

Post by Steven Dakai »

We all signed up for tha tourney at Barre but I have never played it. We play 8 or9 AM Sunday mornings (usually WTL,Buff or Pyramids) but I'm thinking of making the trip to Barre this week. I am not even sure where Barre is, nevermind the 1st tee! Any regulars want to show us the place?

Barre...

You might want to contact Jason @ marshallstreetdiscgolf.com. The course @ Barre Falls has been going through some changes. Last time I played there was logs everywere, in the fairways, next to t boxes. Logging truck parked in the way. I was told that some holes are going to be changed. If you call Jason Southwick he can give you the heads up.

Barre is a great course. Within 30 minutes of Pyramids.

Go up 56 like you are going to pyramids then keep going up 56 till you can only go left or right. (you have to take a left then right on 56 at rutland center)

take a left onto 68.

a few more miles and you come across rt. 62 take another left and the park will be on your left after 2 miles or so.

I'd volunteer to show you the course but I know I will never make it out their that early or on a sunday.

Steven, I wish I was going to be around to show you the course, but unfortunately I am going to be down at the Cape this weekend. My friend Chris may be up there then and I know he would be more than happy to oblige. If not there are usually a group of "regulars" that play right about that time on Sundays so you guys shouldn't have any problems getting someone to show you around. By the way, the logs have been cleared away and there is decent signage on every tee so the course isn't too difficult to navigate at this time. However, I do recommend you use a spotter on the long hole# 5. The meadow hasn't been mowed yet on that hole and you will be looking for discs for a long time without a spotter. Enjoy your round(s). Barre is beautiful this time of the year.

Dont forget the bug spray :x If this rain continues the basket on hole one and the t box for hole two might be in the water.

Btw, once you get into the park, the first parking lot you'll see isn't for hole# 1. That is actually where hole# 6 ends and hole# 7 starts. You have to drive a little further and go across the dam itself and the first tee will be on the left by the kiosk. There are usually scorecards with maps of the course in the kiosk.

Thanks Arthur, I appreciate the info. I am sorry we wont get to meet Sunday but I am sure to see you soon. We are starting to expqand our horizons this year and Barre is on the radar. I'm bringing a friend who has played there before and I think Gil Melendez will be coming too. I am stoked to try a new course even with tall grass, bugs and an occasional flood hazard. It will make me think of Thompson,my home sweet home. :D

I'll try to be there Sunday morning, but there is a decent chance I may be in the same boat as Josh. The signage is good; you won't have too many problems.

#2- The Ware river is hungry. Watch out.

#5- The basket is way up the hill on the right, through the gap in the stone wall.

#3- Go for the far basket straight up and a little to the right, not the short one to the left. That one is hole 8.

After hole 9, walk up the fire road, and hole 10 is on your left.

Careful on hole 15. Your drive may look good. But it isn't always.

Sorry they're not in order. Maybe I'll see you there.

JmmiiZ, I was up there last Sunday morning and as of then all the holes were playable. Even with all the rain we had this week the course should be fine. The water is flowing nicely through the spillway.

steve, Chris and I will most likely be playing Monday night at about that time. If so you are more than welcome to join us. Just check here on Monday to confirm.

Franchi and I just played Barre and it is a mess. Basket 1 and tee 2 are underwater. Hole 5 hasn't been moved and the grass is waist high. Hole 6 & 7 weren't as bad, but could still use some mowing. The river is now a lake. Lots of hole 3's fairway is missing. The mosquitos had been taking steroids. And for a change, it rained. Hopefully, all will be good a month from now.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

steve, Chris and I will be up at Barre tonight at 5:30 p.m. despite the fact that hole 1 may still be under water. We'll be parked by the teebox for hole 1. Bring boots and bugspray!
