having the event on a different weekend from the NT Vibram Open?
just curious if other people who played the VibrAM last year wanted to see this shift?
or if it was more from the tournament directing side-
i can understand how the AM event would suffer and get the back-burner treatment with the schedule the way it was last year- but as a player last year, i liked the fact that it was the same weekend

same/similar player's packs as the best players
same gold layout on the same final day as the best players
same geographical area for the whole weekend as the best players

moving forward it leaves more room for the VibrAM to grow into something huge-
which is exciting, but for different reasons

i do like the fact that it starts and finishes at Maple Hill- more Maple is a good thing!
and i also like that it's giving "tee times" to AM players on the first day- that'll definitely increase the class-factor to the event for AM's.

Just my opinion, but having the vibrAM on the same weekend as the VO was tough for AM players who have always helped run the VO. These players had to choose between playing a great event, and helping carry on the tradition of what many touring pros consider the best event of their season. Plus, it meant that all the am players missed out on seeing the best of the best shred maple, and all the learning that comes with that. Watching world champs hit trees and miss putts is a great learning experience too. I think this tweak is great. Play good golf then watch great golf!

Yes, having the pre-reg would be helpful so I can tell my friends how many spots are left. If it's filling up fast I could cover it for them etc.

Also - Paypal sent. Best players pack and awesome 3 day weekend! Gonna miss staying at CWoods though

Tim got quite a bit of it right. I'll try to answer your questions directly, thanks for caring enough to ask.

1. Yes
2. Yes and no. I believe we were not able to focus enough on the Am side of the event due to the pro side happening at the same time. Literally 95% of our staff was on the pro side and, in my opinion, that shortchanged the ams. This year, we will be able to focus on the ams, and then, two weeks later, we will be able to focus on the pros - hopefully with many of the ams helping us staff the pro side.
3. See 2.
4a. Am player packs are much better than the pro player packs
4b. This will be the case still, except for the same day, but the scores will still be directly comparable (unless there is crazy weather)
4c. Now we will get to enjoy central Massachusetts two weekends instead of just one!

Don and I are on the same page and want to grow the Am Side into a very special Amateur event, on par with the other big Am events. As you said, giving the event its own weekend will allow us to grow the event into something special.

what happens if i "cash" sometime this summer as a pro/open player? am i still eligible for the AM-Side?
i'm leap-frogging AM1 this year to Open just for fun, but i'd say my skill level is AM1 anyway

I just signed up. Put "pending" in for my PDGA number since I just signed up and don't have it yet. I'll message you once I get it though. Looking forward to playing this summer!

I'm not 100% on this, but I think AM1 is ratings based, although another part of me thinks that if you accept cash, you would need to petition the PDGA to allow you to play as an AM1. Does anyone else have similar contradictory thoughts?

I think mikes right, that its only majors. If you cash playing pro, you can still play am1 as long as your rating isn't above 970.
