interesting. I'm looking at what natural material to use in tee pads for Brooklyn. I found this on rice stone:
Or consider an alternative ground cover. At Joe Wex Memorial Dog Park at Peter's Park, the first official dog park in Boston, "they’ve come up with a play surfacing for dogs—rice stone, which is smaller than pea gravel—is gentle on their feet, permeable, but it’s not like grass," says Post-Ergun. "That could potentially be a great alternative for people who have dogs that exercise all the time to use in a dog-run," she says.

seen a patio done with it as base...looked great and takes lots of traffic/drainage

I guess it is best for run off water to drain in..instead of other grade bases that divert/or water runs over/through and is better for some enviro issues and grade sinking/eroding over time kinda thing

would like to see it w/o the patio over it for sure and watch how it compacts..guess I will have to find a place that sells it and check out a sample

if you do LMK

The stone won't compat well.
It's used for different applications, but not as a compacted base where u need stability.

I know it's used in the joints of permeable concrete pavers...
