Discraft CRANK....

Post by Dave Jackson »

Put one in my hand today.
Felt nice.
Cool color.
Seems pretty stable.
ESP is always sexy.

Anyone bomb one of these yet?

Is it a new disc or this years ace run?

EDIT: Used the internets for good...

I'm like the Lebron James of disc golf...except for, you know, that whole being a giant douche thing.

I'm think'in it is dead-nutz between their Nuke and Nuke SS (1.6, 1.3, 1.1).

Your Crank is dead nutz? That's just too easy. :P

Just witnessed Crank's drive last Saturday. I'll say that's quite impressive disc.

It does fly quite similar to beaten ESP Nuke but it has bit smaller rim to make it easy to grip.

I'll wait for the FLX or Ti version to come out.
Tee Off and Pay ATTENTION!!

Crank is awesome...a straighter nuke. Can't wait for the Z blend.

I watched Adam throw one off hole one gold's tee at Maple Hill a couple weeks ago and it was the most flat, straight, pure flight I've seen off that tee in a long time.
The overall diastance was not astonishing, it was the flight of the disc that was astonishing.
Adam's tee shot went in the 450-500' range, but would have passed through a 5' wide hallway, IT'S WHOLE FLIGHT.

Hallway bombs are sure to be a flight characteristic of the Discraft Crank......

And in no way should this be considered the disc's fault lol

I've been messing with the Nuke finally at lighter weights (167)- getting maybe 380ft. out of it if i don't turn it over. how would you factor the crank into the nuke discussion?

too bad it's only ESP to start-

has anyone tried a lighter one? how flippy are they i wonder...

These are not flippy.
When thrown with hyzer, they stand up nice.
This is not the disc to throw with anhyzer. A force is better for that.
I'll say they are in the glide category of the Tern and Lace.

finally got a week of throws in with the ESP crank (left my Heisenberg Crank at home) on a trip to Florida
it doesn't like being mashed or muscled like a Z-Nuke or a Destroyer (duh- it's not supposed to anyway)
but when i finally stopped trying to kill it, things were solid

it really does have a narrow flight path
if its thrown on a powerful anny line, it'll just take that anny line and not come back at the end much
it it's thrown on a straight line, it'll go straight and only fade left as much as the height allows- maybe 30 feet total on a 300 foot shot depending on the fairway
i had 4-5 successful holes in a row that had a L to R bias and it worked perfect on them all
and they were NARROW fairways- (North Port Charlotte Regional DG Park if you're interested)

when i got to the bigger open shots- a 385ft. hole more or less wide open
i put a light pop top X-Nuke in the circle
and then threw the Crank- i gave it hyzer and it popped up straight, flew straight, and finished straight
which made my throw not work since i assumed it'd fade back left a bit
but it still flew 350+ and never got much higher than 12+ feet off the ground

when i started to get used to the disc, my favorite parts were:
1.) the rim- not that it's smaller (as people keep saying)- but that for an understable disc it's not as shallow like a Nuke SS or Tern, it feels like a Surge or something beefy even if the thickness from edge to rim is less
2.) the mellow flight path combined with fast speed- makes a narrow 300+ shot no big deal if you hit the gap

my least favorite parts were:
1.) no likey wind
2.) doesn't like being mashed (this was actually helpful, but i assume that if you're out there really crushing things full power, this disc won't respond as well- maybe max weight could help? my Crank was 172g)- i'd actually like to see some bigger arms throw big wide open annys- of it like Dave said, it won't work as well as a Force

for now i'm leaving it in the bag because i don't want to lose any beat Wraiths
