MA Senior Games Tournament-- Crane Hill, Sunday, June 15
In the spirit of growing the game, Crane Hill is proudly teaming up with the Massachusetts Senior Games to put on a first of its kind tournament in New England Sunday, June 15, especially geared to introduce disc golf to "older" new players. But "old" can be interpreted as robbing the cradle, as anyone 40 or more can participate. Dan Hale with assistance from the Crane Hill disc golf community will be running the tournament.
The cost is quite reasonable, $25 for early registration up to May 17; $30 thereafter. In return for investment, everyone will get a Senior Games tee shirt. Also, gold, silver, and bronze metals will be awarded, Olympics style, in age divisions organized in 5 year increments. That is, if you've still got legs to stand on the makeshift podium-- the large chip pile adjacent to the practice basket. (O.K. maybe we'll come up with something more appropriate...)
Two basic divisions, "Experienced", and "Newbies" will be offered for both men and women, again organized in 5 year increments. This is a great opportunity to introduce the game to a new audience, and we're hoping experienced players who sign up will look upon this as a teaching opportunity. It will also be a day of fun competition with lots of metals to be won. To register go here: http://www.maseniorgames.org/registration.html and let's hook up some new players to our great pastime!

hello Crane Crew
I recently have been exploring new to DG opportunities and in an adenture to find a better fit for the masters and legends of DG event..I reached out to the MA senior Games tour..hosting athletic eents of all kinds for 40+ men/women...who then qualify for a national games..much like olympics
They also have non national events...and are closely tied to orgs in all NE states(pretty much same thing different state)
The orgs all host around 1k in members and grow each year..IMO that would be huge for DG to hae roughly 6k more people all getting exposure to DG
So I sent out an email asking what the dealy was with DG and their Org...
I received a speedy response back with great news..portion of email below
Quote:
Mr. Bariloni:
I agree with you that Disc Golf is a great fit for the Massachusetts Senior Games. That's why we have already added it to our Games for the summer of 2014. It will be played on Sunday, June 15th at the Crane Hill Disc Golf Course in Wilbraham, MA.
well great to see people finally taking interest in DG from outside the DG community
I just wanted to ask if any of you have been contacted in regards to this event..and if not would any Crane Hill guys be open to helping with the event? They seem to have many things covered...just would be great to connect DG community with their Org
discuss? and thanks

Re: MA Senior Games Tournament-- Crane Hill, Sunday, June 15
We are planning a disc golf demo Saturday, the day before the tournament at Springfield College. Saturday is the main day of competition for the MA Senior games, so hopefully we can drum up some interest from the many participants who will be present. Anyone who would like to participate in this would be welcome.

This is great. I never knew about this. You have to be 50 + to compete in the National games, but 40+ to compete at the state level.

seems DG was apart of the National Senior Games last year...couldn't find the event schedule for the St Paul MN 2014 Games though
does any of this stuff make it to the greater DG media..? I must admit I don't check the PDGA streams much
anyone remember seeing this mentioned anywhere?

Re: MA Senior Games Tournament-- Crane Hill, Sunday, June 15
I signed up for this in January. At the Devens tournament yesterday, I spoke with Mike Morin, who also signed up. The only response, so far, is a Paypal receipt. Their websites add nothing new. Anyone know anything about this - is it really happening?

Thanks Jeff, already signed up..
Re: MA Senior Games Tournament-- Crane Hill, Sunday, June 15
The registration for this event will continue online until June 13 through the MA Senior Games website. The link is posted earlier in this thread. The day will consist of two rounds of 18 holes at Crane Hill. The layout will be determined on the size of the field. It is the practice of the Senior Games to award trophies only. However, I am going to organize an optional side pot for anyone who is interested. I plan on doing this in age and skill protected divisions independently from the Senior Games divisions. I am guessing about $20/man is fair. That would make the total entry for the day $50. I hope this will add to the interest of this event and get some more of those younger old folks out for this event. DANIEL MARCUS is NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY (Per DJ)
You do NOT need to be Massachusetts resident. I will organize a lunch vendor for the event.
Registered players will receive a MA Senior Games Shirt. I am also hoping to get CVS to donate some Geritol for any of you geezers that need it

Re: MA Senior Games Tournament-- Crane Hill, Sunday, June 15
Daniel CAN play, but due to liability concerns, he MUST have a pair of Depends ready to deploy, just like the rest of the field.

Re: MA Senior Games Tournament-- Crane Hill, Sunday, June 15
maybe we should let the public vote on Daniel's eligibility for this event?
Davis, you should revise the first post to use the "poll" feature.

We've got about 16 signed the last I looked. Keep the registrations coming, oldsters! (Even you wannabees who are only 40 something). The course is looking and playing beautifully; nurses will be standing by... and we're negotiating with a prune juice company as a possible sponsor. Ever get prunes in your player's package?? (Nurses?)

I wonder if the word "senior" has this age group skeered
seems to be a huge draw division of late around these parts and thus the lack of pre reg action
40 is not the new 20 folks just admit your old and embrace the depends forth coming
lol
I look forward to when I am a wrinkled remain of what used to be so I can grab the cute nurses and feel no shame and finally get no grief for keeping a urine jug close by
I am sure there are many other benefits
