What FL courses to play.....?
Are there courses people recommend playing in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area of Florida.
How about courses in the Clearwater/ Tampa area?
Personal testimony is helpful. Also, tee signs, baskets, tee pads and a way to navigate the course are all a must with limited time.

Cliff Stevens Park in Clearwater is a good course. I played a round behind KC's group a few years ago. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=436
Edward Medard Park is about 20 mins East of Tampa. There are some good holes with elevation which is not typical for FL. Very fun course. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=4568

Re: What FL courses to play.....?
After a hurricane season several years ago, my cousin, brother and myself did a blitz discgolf travel; we started in Melbourne, tried to play Wickham Park (yup, same name) but were denied as much devastation closed that park, and then drove across state to Sarasota, played a course there but my initial reason was to go play Climo's Clearwater course ( Cliff Stevens). There is also a course adjacent to Clearwater, but the name evades me. (edit: see below)
Also there is a Patriots-themed bar in the same town where we went to watch the Pats play that same day.
Climo's course was a lot of fun, the adjacent one was cool, too, and being right next to each other will make for easy play. They were having league and were giving away Bucs tickets on a CTP hole, which I nearly got.
North Watertower Park is the one in Sarasota and Northeast Coachman is the one adjacent to Cliff Stevens.

I had a great time playing Easterlin Park which is just north of Fort Lauderdale. It's a short but very interesting and has a bit of challenge as opposed to Tradewinds which is a longer but totally open. I would characterize it as the Burnsboro of Florida. Let me know if you play it.

Okeeheelee is a bit north of Ft Lauderdale, and is a really fun course. Navigation can be a bit tricky though. Thankfully I had a local to play with last year.
Tradewinds isn't bad, but there's not a whole lot of variety there. At this time of year you also tend to avoid Tradewinds biggest challenge: wind.

Re: What FL courses to play.....?
i'll second the mention of North Watertower Park.
It's not the greatest course on earth, but for whatever reason i always play well there
(it's probably righty friendly or something)
but if you're going further south- 1.75 hours drive- a course i played 4 or 5 times is called North Port Charlotte Regional Park
it recently got a redesign and they stretched it out, fixed the flow and made it a fun course
great teepads too
my only complaint was the multiple pins
some holes have an A, B, and C basket or tee- which is fine except how do you decide which one to play and when? unless you're in a tourney and they tell you-
no matter where you hit, it's bound to have good teepads and no hills!
***I will say to avoid Lakeview Park in Sarasota unless you like losing discs in swamp/gator water- it's a challenging layout if you've never see the holes with all the switchbacks on the streams***

Awesome!!!!
I'm flying into Ft. Lauderdale!!!
It's funny, the state does not have a lot of sweet courses according to their ratings.
As long as their are tees and baskets, that's all I need.

Re: What FL courses to play.....?
In FL.
Played Tradewinds. Lots of fun.
Pretty cool usage of greens and trees. Little bits of all shots that make players play a course. Glad we played it.
Arriving here a day earlier than expected is leaving time to go crush the Cliff Stevens course.
This might be DG in fl right now, but I'm working on figuring out our next move at Maple Hill for the 2014 NT we are hosting.
Trying to figure it out looking at the courses where World Champs live and play. Learn something here to put into Maple Hill when I get back.
I guess you could say the best way to "McBeast Proof" Maple Hill, would be to understand where he plays and practices. Him and The Champ.
They can shoot 45 this year all they want. They will just probably have a couple holes left to play when their score reaches 45 throws.
This first chapter in the book of The Maple Hill Open is underway.
