Direct quote from MAADG's mission: "a privately held organization dedicated to the expansion and promotion of the sport of Disc Golf within Massachusetts and it’s immediate neighbors."

Is MAADG the same as NEFA? This is the first time I have heard of this organization.

Why is this organization (MAADG) decides to create their own instead of working (or join) with NEFA on common (very same) goals?

It confuses the general public, just my own opinion.

Unless this group has some "beef" with NEFA in some ways?

Please educate me and others about this.

Of course they can start their own organization. More organizations means more contact which means more opportunities to promote disc golf. I don't agree with your statemaent about "confusing" the general public.

If you want to be educated then send them the email/comment on the space provided at their website.

Hopefully the MAADG will tell there attendees and parents about NEFA.

GO MAADG, sounds like an ambitious plan hope it all works out.

"Privately held" to me reads a individually owned and operated for-profit enterprise. The set up of a mission, vision, and value statement disguise it though I could be wrong.

It would be amazing if all 7 week sessions had 10 paying students. That's a cool $16,800 in revenue and a whole bunch of kids hooked on the sport. And double that if you can sell 10 spots at Cogshall in addition to Devens and run them at the same time. Plus it's rent free.

I wonder if this model has worked elsewhere.

I'd love to hear more ...

What course (or courses) is the camp going to be held at?

The camp flyer (web page) says that the cost of the session includes all course fees.

Devens and Coggshall do not have course fees.

Hello All,

To address your concerns......

No animosity or issues with NEFA or PDGA, etc. in any way, shape or form. Nope. Nada, Nyet. As a matter of fact NEFA has been invited to set up a registration table at our Trilogy Challenge in August. We support them 100%.

The focus of MAADG is the development of these summer camps and non-sanctioned newbie events such as the Trilogy Challenge. We do not see anything adversarial or redundant in our plans.

We are, hopefully, a for profit effort. We intend to make money. Most businesses have a mission statement. Nothing devious there. However, our intention is to be a vital part of the DG community by donating dollars back to our host courses and by paying our instructors an actual wage. ($15.00 plus add-ons)

Correct. Devens and Coggshall do not have fees. However, other courses we are looking at do...and, again, money will be given to the courses.

I am amazed and excited at the amount of interest this has raised and the quantity of applications received from all over the country! We thought the timing was right for this but we also had a terrible fear that it would die on the vine so to speak....

It all started with a few of us sitting around talking...I happened to be a past Parks Commissioners for Ayer and contacted the current folks there.....We have 3 beautiful local courses....and viola!

Thanks for the post Ric and your efforts to grow the sport. I'll make the joke that the mission of every for profit it to make money! I really hope there is market and that MAADG will be successful in the short and long term. As a private business you don't have to share a thing but I do hope you'll let the NEFA community know how MAADG develops and how much demand you are getting for the summer camps.

Best of luck.

Ryan Sullivan just might be a great candidate for this position.

Yes, the mission of for profit enterprises is to make money.

On the other hand, apprarently the mission of a not for profit is to squirrel away money and be vague about how much and what for, and then get angry and defensive if a member of their organization asks.
