The Course That McCabe Built: The Hollows DGC

Anyone have an inside scoop on where in Manchester Mr. Eric McCabe might have scouted for a course? He said the city showed him three spots. I'm looking forward to developments...I just hope they happen as quickly as I would want to visit!

From what I've heard, I think Livingston is the one he chose.

I heard from a little birdie the other day that it may be Pine Grove... but how "in the know" the birdie may be is unknown to me.

serious though this is kinda huge news

Nefaland/NH had a huge dark hole in manchester
the population is mucho as well there

to have a course designed by a world champion who frequents NE is awesome

it will also bring in a fresh new design by someone who has played world wide at a high level

added to that I am sure we will see some top pros at an event there one day

basically NE is on verege of blowing right off the DG planet
and that is cool

Yesterday I had a preview window open with this picture and a reminder it was the NH courses thread but ended up not wanting to go there.

I assumed Mike D was kidding so I continued the gag as best I could. I learned a lot about different places named Manchester yesterday. The one in Noob Hampshire is the largest Manchester in this country (i'm in the USA, unlike Buttons). The one in Connecticut already has a disc golf course. Among New England states, only Rhode Island is devoid of a Manchester. In NJ it's a township, in New York, it's a village, within a town of the same name.

It's Manchester-by-the-Sea in MA, but I call it Massachusetts' moustache.

I was wondering when at Pinnacle and seen the flier for DG shop in Hooksett what the heck was up there...now I understand and is awesome their is a depending business that poises to profit amplifing the need even more for a course up there...

My sick DG brain can sleep better now knowing that portion of NH seems to be in good hands...lol but serious

McCabe said yesterday on Disc Golf Answer Man that 18 holes will be in by this fall. He'll be traveling back after the upcoming Japan Open and will be starting his project! He hasn't officially declared the course site, however.

Anyone have any other update or a way to get information on this? All signs look promising but not sure where to find out more details (if there are any). Ever since I moved up to NH from central Mass I have really struggled staying in the game. With a few kids and busy work schedule I rely on courses within easy driving distance. Excited about this prospect!

Excellent news! I'm glad McCabe was involved in the design. It's a long time coming for Manchester, and this should open up the city for more DG!

Update for those who care, which may be no one since this thread has pretty much died.

They supposedly had a "work day" this past Saturday, which I went to, but the rain scared all other golfers away. Nothing to do since no one showed up, though a school group came to make a foot bridge, and P&R time was lost by unearthing one of the tractors that got sucked into the ground by mother Earth. I left with what I felt was good news and bad news. I hear it's always better to start with the bad news.

The bad news...
1) In all honesty, I highly doubt this course is open this fall as advertised. Lucky if baskets are in before the winter.
2) Still tons left to do with trees, paths, tees... just a ton of clearing.
3) I guess McCabe labeled the tee and basket locations with stakes in the ground, many of which were unable to be found or were laying down in the dirt.
4) Just an observation - but many of the "long" basket locations are just 50' past the first location, and usually in a cluster of trees. So when in the "long" position, you just have to throw a bit longer on the same path and then roll the dice to see if you have to putt between two trees, or have no shot at all. I can recall at least 5 holes where the pin was inside a TIGHT circle of 3-6 BIG trees.
5) For the amount of land used, the course feel VERY flat and short. I felt like I walked Maple Hill Golds (in land) but saw a Maple Hill Red layout (for the holes).

The good news...

Despite all of the above, Bill seems to be hell bent on keeping this on track, getting these baskets in the ground, listening to feedback, running some leagues/tournies, and making this course as good as possible. Probably one of the best people possible to be the point of contact. I'm guessing the first year will be the absolute definition of a "break in period" where we learn a lot the course through repetitious play. I can almost guarantee there will be changes desired (move this tee here, remove those dumb saplings there, why are there like nine long basket locations in 10' circles of 3' wide trees?...etc.). Bill sounds like he's going to keep TCB on this course until he feels it's worthy of its' peer courses and for that, much appreciation goes his way.
