OTTER BROOK STATE PARK, KEENE NH WORK DAYS FOR SUMMER 2014

Post by Rob Breckenridge »

Allright, we are at a turning point, baskets are in, course is playing nice, time to step it up a notch and install 9 permanent tee pads, this is very labor intensive and will require a ton of work and volunteers, we really need help.

1st major work day is scheduled Sat Jun 21st 9am, we will meet at the gate and drive down.

As an incentive we are hosting a "workman" tournament this fall, anyone who has put 4 or more hours into the course will receive an invitation, some sweet schwag will be on the line.

COurse has been prepped and is ready for worker bee's tomorrow, plenty of water will be available, and we will provide lunch. If you are not playing Maple Hill think about coming down.

No Worries Titan, you do plenty, and family Always comes first.

On a different note, we are having PIZZA delivered @ noon. Who doesn't like Pizza? Nobody, that's who. COme get some.

Also, anyone with 4 hours of labor on the course (over the entire summer!) gets an invite to the S.T.O.W. tournament to be held this fall.

Fabulous prizes and Schwag.

Don't give up on 5 quite yet, I've done some more cutting, bridge building and green pruning, seeing a lot more 3's than 5's on league night.

I am partial to this hole now as I aced it from the B position two days ago :)

Speaking of Aces, after the work day, we threw a few rounds, Drew aced 6B and my brother Nate aced 8b, Karma

I know 5 is semi solid hole, but from my POV is/was/will be that hole that "had to be"

it has some character for sure and is crucial in many ways,

the green and tunnel shot does make it a challenge
just woulda liked to get closer to upper lot but ya know the deal on property line/easements

on a more positive note
glad that the B tees are getting play, they were meant to be different from the A tees and far far less challenging but still difficult in the sense of luring to run them and the greens can be tricky there

also great to see the vision of having 18 holes in a sense and two courses once back nine is installed that can coexist and cater to broad audience

plus lets face it ace runs are fun as shart
most are cool for sure 5 was always iffy...is it close to where it was originally?

the rest assume are same..9 from top and 5 from top shooting across marsh?

the green lagoon hole on back is gonna be cool the lagoon isn't too much in play but awesome touch

anyways curious to hear what drew thought of some of the holes?

good stuff brings back memories of having some good times in the woods

You will flip when you see how large that rock on #5 was! Our little version of stonehenge, we are learning as we go, next time we will build up instead of trying to go down.

you are correct, every remaining hole except for #1 and #6 are going to be labor intensive and physically demanding, although, lugging 60 pound buckets of fill to #5 and wheelbarrowing to #4 wasn't exactly a cake walk.I look at it as "Cross Fit Training" without the expensive personal trainer. LOL,

On a positive note, ACOE busted out the tractor and moved a few yards of fill and dumped it on the access path on #6 for us, I hope to get some more support from them but this was definitely forward progress and much appreciated.

get up to Keene when you can!

Heading out now to put a nice polyurethane stain on the boxes.

I love playing these holes - they are all fun, challenging, and can be approached in different ways. The new tee boxes will make a world of difference. I'll make work days as often as I can - it's only a 1.5 hour trip. Can't wait for 18 holes !!

Two Pads are now done! Boxes built for #7 and #6, looking to get #6 banged out before the next major workday July 6th. Next steps are lugging fill up to #6, buckets are out next to the pile of fill on the access path, it's not that bad a lug,

Here's a shot of #5, so nice...

you are correct sir, are you a course worker or something? most people see a couple of logs, we see a high tech irrigation system and a directional device. 8-)
