Is there a cutoff for invites, as in only 20 positions per division, or does it vary by division participants, say top 25%?

It varies by division, number of players qualified, and regional NEFA membership. Preliminary invites should be available in the next few weeks.

There is still time! You only need three events to get an invite.

The bid process, which is still accepting applications for host clubs/locations to submit, may result in a change of location. The bid process ends August 31st though, so if you want your local club to submit a bid, there isn't much time left!

Do you still need a GoPro? Hoey has one I bought him this year that you can borrow.

That was an extraordinary effort which the CT and RI reps took on and was greatly appreciated by all the players from that region. I do not believe anything like that has been done for this current year.

That is a distinct possibility. I think we have a few made available to us. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to make this happen.

I couldn't find where it is written, but pretty sure the rule is you play Finals in only the higher division you qualify in. You'll get Points payouts in all divisions though.

There is nothing in the 2014 NEFA Points Charter that would prevent someone from playing Pro and Am in this year's NEDGC. This player requirement was in the NEFA Points Charter for the NEFA Finals, prior to 2013, since Pros and Ams played at the same course on the same day in the NEFA Finals. The 2013 NEFA Points Charter did not have this player requirement for the first NEDGC, however Pros and Ams played on the same day at different courses.

You should be allowed to play in ONLY the highest division you qualify for. Oh yeah, and you also should not be allowed to collect season ending payouts for more than one division.

Can't wait to get this discussion going again.

Nothing in the rules stopping Mr Marcus from winning 5 tournies in Pro GM then Pro Master and then Pro Open, cleaning up with the ca$h from season payouts. Then if he plays Pro Open at finals and has a good day at Finals $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Wish I had the skills and was dedicated enough to practice maybe I could be that good.

I don't think we should debate this one here. I'll get the discussion going again on this one in a different area.

Question: Lets say there's this guy.. he plays 3 events with the intention of all 3 being in the same division. One of the 3 events does not have enough people to constitute an adequate field so that one div gets folded into Open.

is that guy S.O.L. on an invite?

My understanding is that in a NEFA event, the bolded isn't allowed to happen. As long as there's one player for a NEFA points division, it has to be held.

Now if a player chooses to abandon the smaller division for a larger one, that's a different story. But the TD can't force that decision, specifically to prevent this kind of situation.

You are correct Josh as usual. A NEFA and/or PDGA TD can't force a player to play another division because they are the only player for their division of choice.

Gary Cyr wrote:You are correct Josh as usual. A NEFA and/or PDGA TD can't force a player to play another division because they are the only player for their division of choice.

Well...a NEFA TD can't. I don't think you can say the same about a PDGA TD.

Competition Manual section 2.1
J. A Tournament Director may, by giving adequate public notice, restrict the divisions offered. Absent such notice, the Tournament Director shall offer for competition any division which has four or more players that are eligible and wishing to compete. Tournament Directors may offer divisions with less than four players at their discretion.

Nothing there about a TD having to hold a division of less than four, just that he must offer any division for which there are at least four players that want it. Smaller divisions are at his discretion.

It's not a common practice around here (due largely to the NEFA policy) but it's not unusual for PDGA tournaments in other areas to shut down a division with three or fewer competitors and move those players into another appropriate division (say moving 2 Pro GMs into Pro Masters, or something like that). Since all pro points or all am points are the same regardless of the division earned, there's nothing lost if a player is unable to play their preferred division due to lack of competitors. In fact, the player can potentially earn more points playing in the larger division in most cases.

Regardless of what the TD can and can't do, I'd hope he at least consults with the affected players before making a final decision. Other than where trophies are concerned, there isn't a whole lot of difference from a TD perspective between a player playing solo in his own division versus playing in a larger division against other players.
