Basket Thieves!

Post by Mike Oatley »

Some ahole just stole basket #14 at Davis Forest in Brooklyn. The course isn't even open yet! If you see some questionable scrapping or selling of an innova pro, it's probably from Brooklyn.

Damn, that sucks hard, I'm sorry to hear that Mike, I am just waiting for the day that happens on our course, hope you get the sh*t heels that did this.
I'd be a lot better if those trees didn't get in the way.

I went back to the park tonight to investigate some more because I think that the area that it was stolen from is only accessible by four wheelers and tractors. Sure enough I found the basket off in the woods a ways away from the hole. Someone put a chain on it and dragged it out of the ground, which badly bent the top, and then tossed it in the woods after dragging it for a while. Mother effin little bstrds ticked me off so I carried the thing back to the hole, cement and all, and put it back in the ground. We need to get people out on the course so that the vandals and thieves have less opportunity to strike.

People stink.

Walk tall and carry a big stick buddy.
Start with the biggest.

Another solution is MORE concrete. Make that sucker so heavy it'll take a train to move it.

Tm dyer has a good system in place to prevent this, i think it was him anyway. I think it involved putting rebar through the post, and burying with concrete. After Borderland had one basket stolen and another almost, we came in with extra concrete. Now each basket has about 300lbs of weight in addition to the metal.

So do you imagine this is a case of the basket getting in the way of the four wheelers and their fun, so they decided to move it?

Who has the proverbial "right of way" at that park?

No the baskets are out of the way of the trails and four wheelers are not allowed on the property anyway. No motorized vehicles allowed at all. They are definitely in the wrong on all counts.

Not to pick on 4-wheelers, but a LOT of groups think they OWN the world and ANY other person is trespassing on THEIR turf! A lot of parents have NOT done a good job on teaching their kids to "share" .

T.M.'s sleeves are great. They are three feet vs. the usual two feet, so you have to dig deeper and wider because of the "X" of rebar, but it is worth it.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

I didn't realize that they were 3 ft. I wonder if you could still use the standard sleeve and modify it with the rebar, or if you have to go custom the whole way.

Nor have some parents bothered to find out the rules of various properties or who even owns them and then inform their kids...instead they just buy them the ORV and let them go wherever they please. Out of sight, out of mind I guess
