3-Hole Cowbell Razz Round Playoff
Following the Pro tournament on Saturday, we will, as always, be holding the infamous and exciting winner-take-all 3-Hole Cowbell Razz Round Playoff.

The Top 4 Pros in the tournament will participate in the Razz Round and will select their caddies from the Pros who finish 5th-8th in the tournament. The player/caddie teams will be designated as the Red Team, the Blue Team, the Green Team and the Yellow Team and each caddy will be given a colored vest that will correspond with his/her team's designated color.

The Razz Round participants will play holes 16, 17 and 18 (and as many sudden death holes as possible to break any potential ties). The winner of the Razz Round will collect $1000 and the caddie for the winner will receive $100.

Before the Razz Round begins, spectators will choose which colored team they want to support and will be given a red, blue, green or yellow wristband and cowbell that will correspond with the team they are supporting. Spectators of the winning team can turn in their wristband after the round is over to collect a free disc as a prize!

Spectators will have an opportunity, DURING PLAY, to yell, ring their cowbell and distract, to their heart's content, those players who they are not rooting for. The only rule here is that spectators may not place themselves in line of sight of a shot and may not physically distract players in any way. Other than that, anything and everything goes.

Needless to say, you need to stick around for this exciting playoff if you can, if for no other reason than to try to win yourself the free disc!

2015 USDGC Performance Flight Qualifier for Massachusetts
The 2015 Nantucket Disc Golf Open is one of six qualifying events in Massachusetts for the 2015 United States Disc Golf Championship Performance Flight division. Held October 7-10 this year, the USDGC is played at the famous and beautiful Winthrop Gold Course in Rock Hill, SC and is the PDGA's ultimate event at the end of every year.

Massachusetts USDGC Qualifying Events
May 3 - Eastern MA Championships
May 23-24 - Tourney 54
June 6-7 - Borderland Spring Fling
July 11-12 - Crane Hill Open
July 25 - Cape Cod Open
August 15-16 - Nantucket Disc Golf Open

Who is eligible?
Those wishing to opt-in to attempt to qualify to be the Massachusetts representative in the 2015 USDGC Performance Flight division must:
- pay a $10 opt-in fee at any of the six Massachusetts events, including the 2015 Nantucket Disc Golf Open
- be a resident of MA
- have a PDGA Player Rating of 875 or higher (at the time of the qualifier)
- be PDGA current (at the time of the qualifier)
- be a PDGA Official (by October 7, the day the USDGC begins)
- have a minimum of 12 PDGA rated rounds between August 1, 2014 and the last ratings report prior to the 2015 USDGC

How it works:
- Players wishing to qualify can enter in as many of the six events as they want, but there is a separate ($10) fee for each qualifying attempt.
- A player who is eligible and signs up to play in a tournament in two different divisions on two different days may opt-in to qualify on both days, but must pay $10 for each of his two attempts to qualify.
- Entrants into these qualifying events will compete using Performance Scoring™ provided by Disc Golf United™.
- The highest performance rated tournament finish among the events will be chosen to represent MA in the Performance Flight division at the 2015 USDGC.
- In the event of a tie, the player with the highest PDGA rating will win.
- Should the winner of the qualifiers choose not to accept the spot, the spot will go to the next best entrant.
- All entry fee proceeds will be given to the player who qualifies to help assist with travel to the event.

For more information on the USDGC, check out http://www.usdgc.com.

2016 USADGC Qualifier
The 2015 Nantucket Disc Golf Open is a 2016 United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship Qualifying Event.

Who is eligible?
- All Advanced (MA1) players in the 2015 NDG Open will be automatically entered into qualifying for the 2016 United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship, held in Milford, Michigan in the early summer of 2016 (specific date tbd).

How it works:
- Players finishing in the top 15% (rounded up) of the MA1 division will receive invitations to play in the 2016 USADGC, a PDGA Major event.
- If there is a tie for the final spot, all tied players will receive an invite to the USADGC.
- If a player has already qualified for the USADGC, he is used as a "spoiler" and his final position counts as one of the qualifiers in your event.

For more information on the USADGC, check out http://www.usadgc.com.

For those coming over to Nantucket the morning of the tournament, please be aware that the ONLY ferry that will get you to the island in time for the tournament on either day is the 6:20 AM Hy-Line High-Speed Ferry. Free transportation to the course via private vehicles will be provided to those arriving on Nantucket on this ferry at 7:20AM on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

For those wishing to bring their vehicle with them to Nantucket, please be aware that this is extremely costly and difficult to do, especially during the summer. To start, the Steamship Authority traditional ferry is the only ferry that can accommodate passengers with vehicles. The cost to bring a vehicle to the island on this ferry is $400 round-trip during the summer and most often by early spring each year vehicle availability for the summer weekends on this ferry is sold out. All this said, we encourage those coming over to the tournament to leave their vehicles at the ferry lots in Hyannis and take either public transportation to the course/hostel/campsite or the tournament-provided free transportation to the course on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Please note that, per the State, camping is prohibited at the course and throughout the Nantucket State Forest. Also, due to the close proximity of many of our course neighbors, we must ask that there be NO GLOW DISC PLAY at the course during the evenings. We will have a basket at the campgrounds though which you may use during the evenings to your heart’s content!

Hotels
The special rate at the Nantucket Inn is unfortunately not available again this year. For those wishing to booking a hotel on your own, rooms in August on Nantucket are incredibly expensive (they start at around $350/night) however Nantucket Visitor Services (508-228-0925) might be able to help you locate a lower-cost option at a Bed & Breakfast. You can also check on prices and availability for many Nantucket Bed & Breakfasts at http://nantucketlodging.org. Finally, booking a home on VRBO for a group might also be a relatively economical option.

Withdrawals and Refunds
Per PDGA Competition Manual:
No refunds will be issued 0-6 days prior to the event, but the player shall be sent a players package if one was provided to event competitors.
Withdrawals made 7-13 days prior to the start of the event shall receive a 50% refund.
Withdrawals made 14 days or more prior to the start of the event shall be refunded 100%.

Refunds for hostel reservations and/or camping are available until two weeks before the tournament and may only be made via Paypal.

T minus one week and counting until registration opens, folks!

Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts. Hopefully I've covered most everything in my ridiculously exhaustive first post. :)

Looking forward to seeing everyone and to another great tournament weekend on island this year.

Sorry, Matt. Subsidizing the hotel stays just ended up getting too costly for us. Nantucket Disc Golf was paying for about 70% of the cost of everyone's Nantucket Inn rooms and we felt that money could better be used elsewhere.

I'm glad you brought this up as hotel rooms weren't initially addressed in the first post (I just updated it with some hotel information). I think the best bet for those wishing to book hotel rooms on their own is to call Nantucket Visitors Information at (508) 228-0925 and see if they can help find a lower cost option. Unfortunately, as you probably know, rooms on the island at that time start around $350 but with so many B&Bs, Visitor Services might be able to find you a good deal somewhere. I would also look into possibly getting a group together and renting a home on VRBO or a room/home on airbnb.

All that said, I'm thinking those who book a bed at the Nantucket Hostel through us when registering for the tournament should have a lot of fun since we have booked the ENTIRE hostel for our tournament guests this year for both nights. It will be like our own private mansion on the beach. Kind of. :)

When we register do we tell you we want camping or will there be a button to click securing our spot? And will it be the full price for the amount of nights we want for camping or one night pay to secure?

When you register you wil be asked four questions regarding lodging/camping and you will be charged based on what your answers are:

Question 1: Hostel on Friday night ($30)?
Question 2: Camping on Friday night ($10)?
Questions 3: Hostel on Saturday night ($30)?
Question 4: Camping on Saturday night ($10)?

Nor sure if that answers your question, but hopefully it explains well enough how it will work.

Unless you've already made plans to bring your car over, I'd advise against it as it's extremely costly and difficult to do. To start, the Steamship Authority traditional ferry is the only ferry that can accommodate passengers with vehicles. The cost to bring a vehicle to the island on this ferry is $400 round-trip (during the summer) and, looking at the Steamship Authority website, it looks like spots for vehicles are sold out for pretty much the entire weekend.

Your best bet for Thursday night is to stay at the hostel. I just checked and it looks like there is still some availability there. Definitely your cheapest option on island. Check your PM for some more thoughts on all this.

Looks like you found the discgolfunited links in the first post, Wallace.

You and Jacki are 4th and 5th on the waitlist so, though I can't promise anything, my guess is you all will get in eventually, no problem.

Unfortunately I have to drop out of this fine event. Please let me know if you need any info from me in regards to a refund. Fingers crossed it works out for me next year!

Thanks!

That's too bad to hear, Eric, but will get you refunded here shortly, no problem. Hope to see you out next year.

With Eric Kevorkian, James Scanlon, Mark Dombek and Jill Curtis dropping out in the last 3 days, the Amateur Waitlist is now officially MOVING.

For those of you on the Amateur Waitlist, when you receive an e-mail invite, please know that DGU allows you just 48 HOURS to accept it or else your spot will be offered to the next person on the waitlist. That said, make sure and click to accept the invite ASAP if you want in...if you aren't going to be able to make it, I just kindly ask that you click Decline in the e-mail as this will notify me and allow me to go ahead and immediately invite the next person on the waitlist.

I think when I registered I checked off camping for Friday night. I was wondering if there is still room in the hostel and if it is possible to switch from camping to hostel and pay the difference? Let me know thanks.

There is indeed room at the hostel, John, and it's no problem if you want to switch from camping to the hostel. Just Paypal the difference ($20) to todd@nantucketdiscgolf.org and you'll be all set.

Pains me to say that I have to withdraw from the tournament. This is without a doubt the best tournament around!

That's a shame, Todd. Will refund you here in a minute, no problem. And, if not before, I hope to see you out next summer!
