Crane Hill Senior Games Tourney, Sunday, June 7
Late notice but the Crane Hill disc golf course will once again be in retirement mode for the Second Annual Senior Games disc golf tournament Sunday, June 7, especially geared to introduce disc golf to "older" new players. But there's a pretty liberal definition of "old" is as anyone 40 or more can participate.
The cost is quite reasonable, $30. In return for investment, everyone will get a Senior Games tee shirt. Also, gold, silver, and bronze metals will be awarded, Olympics style, in age divisions organized in 5 year increments. The large chip pile adjacent to the practice basket will once again serve as our makeshift medal podium... Gold metal winners will be serenaded with their favorite golden-oldie song.
Two basic divisions, "Experienced", and "Newbies" will be offered for both men and women, again organized in 5 year increments. This is a great opportunity to introduce the game to a new audience, and we're hoping experienced players who sign up will look upon this as a teaching opportunity. It will also be a day of fun competition with lots of metals to be won. To register go here: http://www.maseniorgames.org/registration.html and let's hook up some new players to our great pastime!
Schedule: 2 rounds of 18 holes. Registration opens 8:00. Players' meeting: 9:30. Tee-off-- 9:45

O.K..... so what's happened-- have all who registered for this event last year "moved on" so to speak? For those of you who are still undead, it's time to show up to sign up for a fun 2 round Crane Hill event that showcases the old and ambulant.
Registration has been extended to just about the day of, so, prepare to Meet your Maker, your Crane Hill special fun maker!

Re: Crane Hill Senior Games Tourney, Sunday, June 7
Though a small turn out, we had a fine rambling time on a perfect June Day at Crane Hill. Thanks to all who assisted; first off, Rick Williams who showed up at 7:30 to find no one there, and must have suspected mass forgetfulness. Rick the back bone of NEFA, was indispensable as always bringing the score port and putting his incomparable tournament management experience to good use.
Thanks also to my wife, Joanie Simmons who brought volunteers from the Springfield College Occupational Therapy program. Heather Shea, Scott Salus, Linnea Quist, and Brian Imdieke were a luxury, accompanying groups keeping score, and otherwise helping out. Also to the always hospitable Ken Wagner who made his bathroom available in his home across the street. And thanks to the ever helpful Steve Merrill who swept the tees morning of.
Last of all, thanks to Larry Libow, long time organizer and spark plug of the MA Senior Games. He showed up at the end of competition to award medals and tee shirts. Larry also announced that disc golf has been elevated to be an official game of the National Senior Olympics, and tournaments such as this will be used as qualifiers for the national games next year--so there's incentive to show up a year from now in better numbers!

great news
it saddens me to see the charter of nefa exclude the ability to bring the numbers that come with a nefa event with the "all divisions offered rule" and "the one event per terrain traversed rule"
if some middle ground could be found events that specialize to a specific age group could see some great numbers
of course not sure if DG age groups match the senior games breakdowns
as it appears they do not
just speaking in general
anyways cool to see some form of a masters and legends event
