A CHAIN OF EVENTS—The Origin & Evolution of Disc Golf

Post by Phil Kennedy »

I've know Jim Palmeri forever. Well, since the late 1970s anyway. Neither of us can remember when we first met. Was it at an early NAS meet in Amherst? Kensico Dam? An AFDO in Rochester? By 1979 we were both competing at Oak & Spruce for a trip to the $50K out in Huntington Beach, CA. We both got an invite.

Fast forward three decades and Jim told me he had been keeping notes on the early history of Disc Golf with the idea that he would write a book some day. "Maybe you'd like to help?" Having just spent four years working with Fred Morrison on Flat Flip Flies Straight, the idea of getting involved in another book project didn't have immediate appeal. But we kept in touch and from time to time Jim updated me on his progress and even asked me to document my early involvement with pre-Frisbee flying discs.

About two years ago he began sending me rough drafts to which I responded with critiques and encouragement. Then, in February came the call. Would I be willing to help him get the book finished in time for The Worlds in August? That was very short notice but how could I say "NO"? After four months of 'round the clock intense effort, A Chain of Events was sent to the printer. A week before the Worlds I loaded up my van with 1,600 pounds of books and rendezvoused with Jim at Marino's Flying Pizza in Schenectady, NY for the transfer to his waiting van.

Jim got his wish to present the book at the Worlds...where he tells me it was very well received. Dan "Stork" Roddick wrote the Preface. I hope everyone will check it out. It's available at: http://www.FlatFlip.com

Well worth the read. Jim Palmeri, inventor of DDC is not only a historian, but both lived and shaped the history. (Plus you're missing one of the best frisbee books ever if you have not read Phil Kennedy's Flat Flip Flies Straight... all about the vastly entertaining and ingenious Fred Walter Morrison who took his eye off the ball and onto the disc, over 65 years ago).

The rest is history we continue to make today.
Chain bondage is good.

Wow, great!

I've known and played with Jim Palmeri (#23) and Royce Racinowski (#2089) several times during weekly leagues in Rochester, NY in the late 1990's until I moved to Vermont in 2010.

I last saw them both was at the recent 10th Chili Cook-Out. It was great to see them.

It's amazing that Royce still have some old school discs for sale!!

Looking forward to read this book!!
Tee Off and Pay ATTENTION!!
