Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
League Basics (Prelim 2016 Structure):
Wednesday Weekly Web Page - http://www. ... agues.html
The Wednesday Weekly returns on March 16th. Come get your 2016 bag tag and be signed in and ready to go by 4:35PM (before 4:30 for The General). This was once again the most popular singles league in New England last year (2,064 golfers came out) and we are aiming to make it bigger and better again this year so come join the fun. We are working behind the scenes to potentially automate check in and score reporting for a quicker turn around after the round.
We use league as our primary fundraiser to help pay our yearly insurance bill. We make it fun and fair for all, so don't worry that you have to be an all-star to have a good time. We group players into four groups based on skill/gender, so you'll always be competing with someone about as good as you.
Details
• Wednesdays, starting March 16th
• Be checked in by 4:35pm at at your starting hole by 4:45pm. Cut off on The General cuts off at 4:30pm.
• Initial cost: $20 for 2016 tag
• Buying a tag saves you $2/week. Visiting non-taggers can still play and get in on the cash payout but can't compete for a tag
• Four player pools (A pool for players who average 58 and under on The Hill , B pool for players who average between 59-68 on The Hill, C pool for players who average 69+ on The Hill and a women’s pool)
• A weekly divisional cash payout, an ace pot (capped at $250, will roll over to a additional pots if needed.) and a season long points event. Lots of raffle prizes at end of the year including some big ticket items. Please note that beginning on week 12 all money won during weekly league (aside from ace pot) will be paid out in a lump sum at the end of the season.
• You must be a tag holder to collect the ace pot
• We will do a skills challenge at the end of the night as soon as daylight allows. Just for fun!
• Players opting to play on The General will receive a handicap. The handicap will be based on last years data with over 2,000+ rounds considered.
• 31 weeks of league play (last day is Wednesday October 12th)
• CASUAL PLAY IS DISCOURAGED ON BOTH COURSES ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS DURING LEAGUE SEASON
• One round of singles
• If you leave before tags are redistributed, get someone to grab it for you or risk us losing it. Alternatively you can grab the highest #'s tag available on the board before you leave.
• Tags are in play for casual rounds and tournaments. Higher tag can challenge a lower tag and under most circumstances, lower tag must accept.
• If there are no aces for 2016, half goes to the course maintenance/insurance fund and half goes to the 2017 WW ace pots.
• There will be a year-end Bag Tag Bonanza to end the season. For tag holders only! Sunday October 23rd
• Lots of raffle prizes at the Bag Tag Bonanza. Earn raffle tickets by attending league, hitting an ace. The more you play the better your chances of winning are!
• If you leave early and don't collect your payout, the money goes into the course funds.
• If you leave early, please grab the highest #'d tag from the board as your tag.
Weekly cost
• Tagholder: $5 -
$2.25 payout, $1 course funds, $.75 ace pot, $1 season points event & payout.
• Non-Tagholder: $7 -

• 1st place in A/B pool gets 5 points
• 2nd place in A/B pool gets 4 points
• 3rd place in A/B pool gets 3 points
• 4th place in A/B pool gets 2 points
• 5th place in A/B pool gets 1 point
• C & W pools will have a top 3 (3, 2 & 1 points)
• Everyone gets 1 point for playing (you can accumulate up to 25 attendance points)
• If you move up a division at any point in the season your points/standings will stay behind in your previous division and you will compete in the new pool for the nightly payouts, etc. New points earned in higher division are added to your lower pool points.
I encourage everyone to play in the highest division possible for your skill level.
• Top 3 point earners in each division (or more) will win a cash prize at the end of the season.
• Other ways to gain a point - hit an ace

can't wait. are you paying out 5 or 3 spots? The 5 got a little superfluous, especially when we'd hit 3-4 way ties for 4th and 5th.
is the break-out for the $5 same as last year? Or did Ace go up .$50?

Payouts will stay the same as last year, including ace pot. Hopefully some more incremental growth will help with paying out 5 places in A, B and C pools.

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
What a great way to start the 2016 league season. We had very good weather for mid march and a whopping total of 84 people came out to play. Last year we had some snow on the ground for week 1 and we had about 55 players.
Things seemed to run on time so we will try a 4:45pm start next week (4:30 cutoff for the General)
Tim's new automated process worked very very well and I think next week I'll have everyone enter their scores in at the end of the night. Please just hold your card and we will go over it as a group at the end of the night. in about two-three weeks we will have you checking in and reporting scores like a pro!
Jeremy Draeger shot a personal best 56!
See ya next week.

cool looking report!
not as cool: shooting a 50 on opening night, and leaving with the 7 tag.

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
Interesting week here in New England. Monday snow storm drops 6 inches of snow on the course and by tee off on Wednesday the course is 100% snow free. Also, the forecast called for showers throughout the entire round last night and we didn't get a drop! It's good to see that the league weather machine is still working.
Some cards finished in the dark last night so we will stick with a 4:45 Hill start time next week (4:30 General).
We had some technical issues and we couldn't start the score input as we had hoped but the system still worked well and we were able to put scores in manually for all 86 players in a timely fashion! Speaking of numbers, through two weeks last year we had 103 players and through two weeks this year we have had 170. Some decent growth there and I am personally scared of what is going to happen we we start at 5:30pm. The 100 player challenge is still on as well, this means that the first time we reach 100 players on a single night we will add $100 to the payout (spread out among all divisions). Which week will we hit 100 players? Week 5 is my guess.
Ashlee Foley shot a personal best 65!
Please also note that it is quite important that you report to your assigned hole. If you make a switch after you have been assigned a hole it messes with the score entry and it isn't worth the hassle. Please only change holes if you have been specifically asked to do so by whomever is running league. It is quite difficult to manipulate the automated system to provide a specific starting hole and we would sincerely appreciate you accepting your automatically assigned hole as it for the greater good of the entire league. Thank you!
See ya next week.

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
Fun times last night! We had 80 people come out to enjoy the great weather and competition.
Next week we will start at 5:00pm on the Hill but will stick to 4:30 on the General. The first 3 weeks of league have shown us that the last groups to go out to play the General come back later than everyone else so I think we will try always cutting the General off 30 minutes sooner.
Thanks to everyone who entered their scores on their phones. We think it went really well and next week will be our first week or complete online check in and score reporting. A full set of instructions will be available soon but I assure you it's nice and easy. If your not comfortable checking in through your phone or don't have the proper equipment, you can still check in with us as well. If you are buying a tag or checking in for the first time please do so through us as well.
I heard that Jeff Angers hit an extremely long approach shot on hole 14 hill for the 2! Like from down by the alt tee!!
See ya next week.

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
Wow, we thought the turnout would be low with some snow sticking around and some pretty cold and windy conditions but we had 85 players come out to play. Seriously, 4 weeks in and we haven't had less than 80 people participant. 83.75 average per night!
We will stick with the 5pm Hill start time and the 4:30 General cut off for one more week.
This was the first week of full automated check in and score reporting and it went really well! One or two small hiccups but overall it worked amazingly. Thank you all for your cooperation with this!

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
Another great night at Devens league! We had 88 players and some really hot scores! Marc Sobota shot a 52 on the General which translated into the lowest recorded league round ever when you factor in the 6 stroke handicap (46)! 5th place shot a 51 and we had 3 people shoot in the 40s! Kyle Moriarty shot a 48 and John Buonsanto with a 49 (both on the Hill).
Casey White shot a 58 on the General to win B pool, Sean Coyne shot a 55 on the Hill to win C pool and Ashley Toomey shot a 64 on the General to win the ladies pool.
We had 11 ladies at league, which I think ties or maybe even breaks that attendance record!
Moving the start time up to 5:15pm Hill start time and the 4:45 General cut off next week.
Thanks again for all of your cooperation with the automated check in and score reporting. We had two players who went out on the General without being added into the card. Please make sure that all 4 players are checked before you form your card. All of these small things have ripple effects so please do take your time checking in, reporting scores and forming groups on the General.
See ya next week.

55 in the C pool! Do you have a D pool planned for the near future? If I'm reading this right, he would have taken sole possession of 2nd place in B pool and would have cashed for more $$$.Luke Adolph wrote:Another great night at Devens league! I think C pool is as deep as we need to go. But if Sean continues to shoot great scores he should move up

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
We smashed the league attendance record last night with 103 players!! That's an increase of 14 players over the previous record, wow! David Rich grabbed Ace Pot #1 by hitting hole 9 on the Hill. $250! Marc Sobota continues his great play and grabbed another A pool win. Kay Gray shoots a personal best 61 on the Hill!
PLEASE READ THE NEXT FEW PARAGRAPHS CAREFULLY IF YOU CARE ABOUT THIS LEAGUE:
With the record numbers comes the need for more cooperation from the players. PLEASE use the automated system to check in and report scores. Tim and I should really only be used to enter accept cash/mark you as paid/add new players/sell tags and form groups for The General during check in and then to hand out tags and read off names at the end of the night. We have a few older phones or ipods that can connect to Wifi and access the league sign in and we will leave these on the table for you to use if you don't have your own smartphone. It's super easy to sign in and report scores and your cooperation can only help to improve the league.
We had an issue with the General last night as we ran out of space on our allocated holes and ultimately sold the course out before people waiting for the rest of their group to arrive could form a card. We appreciate your cooperation with shifting of cards and courses. We will be changing the allocated holes to allow more players going forward and hopefully a better course flow as well. Basically, we will trickle start off of holes 1 and 9 (alternating). It is extremely important that you start on the assigned hole. I get special requests every week and we just cannot accommodate them with this many people. It's a big puzzle and one misplaced piece is a problem for the entire group.
We also took away the ability to form your own group on the General via the phone wifi page. Tim and I will do that for you as having players form the card caused a few issues. Basically, make sure all players in your group are signed into the virtual waiting room and paid, then come see tim or I and let us know which 4 players will be in your group and we will form the card and assign a hole.
Keeping the start times at 5:15pm Hill start time and the 4:45 General cut off next week. After that we should be clear to move to 5:30 on May 4th.

See ya next week.

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
what's the biggest pain in the ass right now that we can fix? Is it people being dingleberries about not registering and entering scores themselves? Or is it The General waiting-room stuff?
Would it make it easier for you if you just sent off groups to the general when you had 4 ready? Or if there 6+ in there, a group has to go, regardless of who you're waiting for? I worry about having 15 people in there, with 5 groups each waiting for 1 person, and then they all go out to 2 holes at the same time.

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
I think the biggest help would be for everyone to use the automated check in and score reporting along with respecting the hole in which you have been assigned. Hopefully having a spare ipod or two for people to use will help with this. Tim and I got back from our round on the later side yesterday and I was expecting to open the laptop up and have a bunch of scores entered, there were maybe 3 or 4 holes completed and we had to track down a lot of cards.
I agree that when the waiting room gets too full with random groups of 1 or 2 waiting for a full card it can get confusing but as long as we open it up to enough holes that should be OK. Sending people out based on who was in the waiting room currently would certainly help but people really like the flexibility to play with exactly the people they want and I would be hesitant to take that away.
Also, I need to make it more clear that the advertised time is our tee off time and not the time to pull into the parking lot.

I think there's a misconception (at least by me), that the wifi wasn't running until you got back - maybe make that clearer. I know I didn't enter it until then. Also the Hill came back in a pretty big wave last night (which is good), so you weren't too late.

Good point. We do turn the box into score reporting mode and it's on and ready for the first groups back.

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
Another big night with 101 players joining us for league!
Last night went pretty smooth with only 1 or 2 issues. I'm gonna keep these next few paragraphs on the wrap up for the next few weeks though.
The league purchased a small tablet which will be on the table for you to use if you don't have your own smartphone. It's super easy to sign in and report scores and your cooperation can only help to improve the league..
Please also start from the hole in which you were assigned. We consider all sorts of things when running a league of this size and course flow is extremely important. We place people on the course in way designed to provide the best course flow and we appreciate your cooperation as all 100 of us can't start on hole 1.
We will move the starting time up to 5:30 going forward (cut off 30 minutes earlier for General)
See ya next week.

League tonight! Hopefully the rain holds off for our first 5:30 tee off(general cuts off at 5). Gotta get started on time tonight so please don't pull into the lot at the last second.

69 players came out despite the cold and rainy weather. I think the rain stopped before play started and started up again at the tail end of play.

Re: Devens Wednesday Weekly League - 2016 - Both Courses!
97 players enjoyed the sun and warmth at league last night! Couple of personal best scores as well (Tim Seiger shot a 61 on the Hill and Aaron Little's 53 on the General!)
We have had 22 players attend all 9 weeks of league. 165 unique players and an average of 88.11 players per night.
With the Womens Global event this weekend and the Ladies Divisional event happening the following weekend Devens would like to pay for all ladies playing at league next week. We have had 21 women play at league and I'd love to see all 21 and more come out for the night! Spread the word, $5 fee waived for ladies next week 5/18!
Lots of people have been playing without buying a tag. Here's a gentle reminder that buying a tag helps grow disc golf in New England and it also makes you eligible for collecting the full ace pot and all of the perks that come with the Bag Tag Bonanza at the end of the season (you don't want to miss your chance at the raffle items!)
See ya next week.

League tonight! Weather looks good and it's ladies night ($5 fee waived with payouts still in effect).
Hoping for a good turnout (Tim won't be there for check in so please keep an an orderly line and use the tablet or your phone to sign in. FYI - Holding your group off for a good starting hole on the general doesn't help in keeping the check in process smooth).

connect to the "dg league" wifi when you get to the parking lot then navigate your web browser to any basic website such as www.devens.com
The tablet is already connected to the right wifi and page as well.
Thanks,
Luke
