Is it just me or should Nefa when asked be open to supporting free to play public courses in the new england region.
I understand the new educational program awesome....I understand the large grant program
I don't understand why nefa did away with small grants....???
and timelines and such seem ultra hindering when grants are only accepted in the Spring
If Nefa is to remain relevant isn't it vital to keep it'sname out there in the direct DG community?
Ya know at a course where all players will see NEFA!
I know of several long term renewals that came direct from originally seeing NEFA on a basket donated to Tully....myself being one of them...yeah yeah maybe some of you are thinking dammmm that basket is responsible for Titan to Nefa....lets go set it on fire and pisss on it....
IDK again I am confused....
Hmmm Nefa

Re: Hmmm Nefa
The small grant program was done away with for a few reason. We simply were not getting the requests in for small grants. Allowing them to come in at random intervals meant we didn't have a method of comparison between other grant requests. Under the new method, we have a time period for grant submissions and review, allowing us to compare the grant requests. With all the grants coming in for the year at one time, we ensure that the allocated funds are dispersed in the appropriate manner. If we allowed them to come in and be reviewed at any time during the year, it would open up for a situation where a worthy recipient wouldn't receive funding simply because the grants were already allocated to other requests.

Re: Hmmm Nefa
well now the reverse of what was trying to be corrected is happening....a worthy project is being prevented from a grant because it is past the time and project will be completed before the time
no system is perfect but creating a system because of what if's seems counterproductive to getting things done

Re: Hmmm Nefa
I work for New York State Comptrollers office overseeing grant contracts that New York State agencies give out to make sure they followed finance law and had a fair process in awarding those grants. The way nefa has changed their process to have an application period and a review of those applications is a more fair way of awarding the grants. If an project wanted the support of a nefa grant it should be aware of the timelines. If the project gets done before the following years application period then the project really didn't need the help of the nerfa grant correct?

Re: Hmmm Nefa
solid points Kenji,
To the point of missing or completing a project did the project really need it
My thoughts on that are
Lets not completely rule out the fact that Nefa is to some degree becoming less of a presence
Nefa attaching to projects for nothing more then a basket, is IMO in the best interest for Nefa and DG in general.
Customer or in this case member acquisition is crucial to the long term sustainability of NEFA
If that basket nets NEFA 2 members that end up becoming say for discussion sakes 10 years that basket has now become profitable. Not to mention other stimulation that could be created in the form of events, charitable donations, and series participation
To me legitimacy does not come from being "official" or as mentioned in your post acting fairly in a grant process seems like just more of what is wrong with things bureaucratic thinking.
Having an anchor or in this discussion a basket on every course possible is far more important then a "fair grant system"
When I post such things as in OP....it should not be misconstrued as "wanting from nefa" the intent was to pointout what NEFA is missing
penny smart dollar dumb
