Disc Golf Vermont

Post by Chris Young »

Hey NEFA friends!

Over the past 9 months I have been working on a lifelong dream of mine, which is to own my own business. Well, that time has finally come and I would like to introduce you to DGVT ( Disc Golf Vermont)! I had flirted with various ideas over the years from opening a restaurant to a diaper service, but nothing really felt right so I didn't follow through. In 2003 I fell in love with the sport of disc golf while living in Eugene,Oregon. The adventures it took me on, the people, the sense of community, the flight of the disc, it all resonated with me and that passion continues until this day . I moved back to my home state of Vermont in 2007 and started to not only play disc golf but get involved organizing disc golf and growing the sport here in Vermont. In 2010 I took over as president of the GMDGC and started to work hard to get more people out playing, more courses in the ground and more sponsors into the sport.

Over the past year or so I started to think that it was time to take disc golf to new heights here in Vermont ( and beyond). That it was now time to own my own business and invest even more time and resources into what I love. So in the spring of last year I did just that as I started to work on gathering people to help me design a logo ( thanks Matt Marro!) and a website ( thanks Cory Barron!). I purchased a great album of pictures ( thanks Steve Valkenberg!) and I launched DGVT just before Christmas of 2018. I am so happy and so excited for the future as I will be leading summer camps and after school programs for kids. I will be running the DGVTour, which will be a Series of awesome events throughout VT on our best courses. I will be spearheading a Ladies league and the first ever all womens DG tournament in the state of Vermont. DGVT will be running a Putting league and VT Team Challenge. We will also host the VT mini DG Championships as I have purchased a professional 18 hole mini course ( if your interested in renting the course let me know!). I will continue to work hard on our Ice Bowl as well, ensuring that we remain in the #2 spot for money raised nation wide ( this year we hit $100,000 raised for VT food shelves in the 13 years we have ran this event!).

Anything DG related in VT ( and beyond) I will be involved with. It is my passion and my love for not only the game but the community ( you!) that inspired Disc Golf Vermont and I look forward to sharing that with you all. Thanks to all my NEFA friends and family that I have ever played a round with or shared a story with over the past 10+ years. To everyone that has supported what we are doing here in Vermont, THANK YOU!

Check out our website ( discgolfvermont.com), FB page or Instagram for daily information on what DGVT is up to.
