Ninigret Park

Post by Matt DeAngelis »

Yo,

So I heard through the grapevine that there maybe a tournament at Ninigret Park (Charlestown, RI) on Feb 10th. This would be a fund raising event to get the extra cash needed to purchase the remaining pole holes for the back nine. I don't have any specifics on the tourney yet, and there is a town meeting to discuss the event on the 11th of Jan. If it is approved, then we should be a go. If not, people should come down anyway and we could have an "unofficial" disc golf gathering. Just wanted to put it out there for anyone that is ineterested.

It might be tough to get a good turnout for a Friday tournament. Are you sure that's the right date?

If anyone is interested in coming down to the course to play prior to the event, consider coming down on a Sunday for league. Info regarding the league can be found at:

can you clarify "mystery doubles"? Is this a dubz event or is there a little side action going on where you dont know who your partner is and your aggregate score counts (a la what Hero did at the WTFO2)?

Just wondering. Hope to make it down for this one :D

I'm going to call Tim later today and will ask him about that. I was a little curious as well. Also, please post any replies to the Tournament section of the forum.

Just got word that the pole holes that were removed from holes 3, 4, 5, and 17 will be re-installed. Going out there tomorrow with TM Dyer to help put them back.

We had 5 of us out at the course today doing work. Ended up getting holes 3, 4, 5 cleaned up and pole holes back in. Also, installed a pole hole for hole 17. Ninigret is back to it's original layout with 18 baskets.

Hey
Anybody driving thru Prov. on the way to Ninigret on tourney day. There is a player from Calif. going to Brown. He is interested in playing in the FrostbiteClassic if we can find him a ride. Any help out there???
His name is Phil Burns. Hope that there is a kind soul headed thru to help him out.
Thanks,

So yeah, it took me about five minutes to find the thread for Ninigret....(a good example of why there should be individual course pages) Anyway, that's not why i'm posting. I just got word that the Town of Charlestown, RI will be allowing us to continue to play on holes 3, 4, 5, 17 until the fall when the army corp of engineers will come in and do their digging. It is not all good news, as the basket on hole #8 will be removed in the coming days due to the "hazardous" conditions (there is some scrap metal scattered around the fairway/rough from years past) until they lift the "no-dig" ordenance.

Also, this Sunday, there will be a meeting for all Rhode Island disc golfers that play at Ninigret to discuss and organize a tournament for the spring (I promise there will be a payout). The meeting, held at TM's house in Newport, will be immediatly following Sunday league. I will be driving, so there is space for three other people to join in. That is all.

P.S. titties

Forgot to mention that the doubles course record was broken today by Matt D and Dave K with a blistering -10, 48. Greg W and Dave H were there to witness the glory and only shade their eyes from the shine.

Hey,
I don't live in Newport any more. I live 15min from Ninigret Park in West Kingston just down from the train station near Peter Potts Pottery. I will be playing league at Ninigret this week and Have room to give people a ride as well. There is plenty of room to park for many vehicles at my place. If you are not playing with us at league and still want to come my address is 505 Dug Way Bridge Rd. Please come and join us to help figure out what we can do this spring for an event at Ninigret Park.

Stay tuned for more details to come....

Thanks,
