Campgaw Warning

Post by Paul Levy »

For anyone looking to take advantage of the mild winter we're having and are thinking about doing some winter layout rounds at Campgaw be prepared for a 20 minute hike in and out on the weekends if the ski area is not open to the public.

Although the Skylands Club was told the county security would be in charge of ski area gate this year it seems we are back to the same BS as last year that when the ski area is closed the ski operators lock the lower road access gate thereby denying access to anyone that doesn't care to blow 40 minutes of their day hiking in and out from the lower road lots.

I don't know of any disc golf course anywhere that requires a 20 minute uphill hike just to get to the first tee not to mention probably walking out in the dark to boot. This has nothing to do with the Skylands Club, the Campgaw course liason to the county or Dan Doyle. It is the Bergen County Parks Department and they continue to not take us seriously although their tongues wag in a different direction. This is a primary reason Campgaw Disc Golf is underplayed and underused besides the Pro-Adv layout changes during the months we can get in and next time I'll use the hiking time driving to Warwick with a 20 second walk to the first tee.

I apologize in advance if this sounds angry but as a Bergen County taxpayer I am angry because this is nonsense. It was nonsense last year and it was supposed to have been corrected.

Hey Paul. I'm playing CG on Tuesday or Wednesday. Will I have to hike in from one of the lower lots? Not to appealing, but I love the Gaw, and will do whatever it takes to play their. Plus this way I can laugh at the Rent-A-Pricks who show up at 5 busting balls about locking the gate.

Are you going to be available to play on Tuesday or Wednesday?

How are conditions on the course?

Team Rhodekill is going on our annual roadtrip this Thursday and we want to make Campgaw our first stop. So is the gate open on week days and what time is it open? We would probably get there pretty early at least by 8. Anyone know?

The yellow gate should be open when the park is open.
You should be able to get in at 8. Usually the park is open during daylight hours.

If the yellow gate is closed, get out of the car and check to see if its locked. Sometimes they just unlock it and leave it closed. You can open the gate and park in the lot if its unlocked.

PM me if ya'll want a guide. Maps of the winter campgaw layout are at skylands website.

peace,
steve
