Construction has begun!!!!!!!!!! Big thanks to BIG NICK, Dave MC Hale, and Jack Nikkelleio for helping out. The process is slow, but steady. Hopeful start for the first nine holes will be LiCkAtHoN20o5 on July 2. We've been trying to get in some work during the week starting at around 530, going to dark. I'll post when I know we'll be there - any other helping hands are deeply appreciated. It's not glorious work, but it IS good company. Call my cell 860.637.1000 if you're thinking about coming down.

I may have the odd Friday afternoon to spare to help punch up some fairways. I'd probably head there right from Bristol and with some guidance could do some prep work beginning at 3:00.
Having two DG courses 20 minutes away from me will be fantastic. We just need one more to make the lIcKaThOn an all Greater Hartford Event!

Nocando today...gotta meet up with Ditter and give him GHDGO materials and lost discs to head up to Barre with. After that it's back on the computer to output the sign changes and additions for the Wick.
Considering I came down with Lyme last year - fully treated, no fatigue symptoms - I'd better be prepared with a utility belt full of protective agents.
Next week should be fine...a perfect warmup to the ACT.

quite the party tonight! ill definitely be there, y0.
by the way, if anyone has a spare set of workgloves I'd appreciate it. left 'em at home after i cleaned my car and forgot to put all that stuff back in: left a small pile of little things like that, jumper cables, etc sitting in my living room. doh!

last night went well...........special thanks to Little Nicky and DM Chale.........got most of #3 cut..................
Looks like the next shot we'll have will be Friday eve at 530 - objective will be to finish #3 and start on #4
I am meeting tonite with Parks & Rec to formally request going to 18 holes - don't really see why that can't happen.
Stay tuned, yo

First three holes are playing at:
1 - The Chad - 351' - 25'-30' wide fairway with just a slight right to left and guardian trees just before the pin.
2 - Tiptoe through the Tulips - 372' - 30' wide fairway for first 150', squeezing down to two 10' options around Tulip tree cluster - either way requires left to right movement - nice open area bends back a bit to the left with an elevated pin and OB immediately behind (stroke AND distance is your penalty). (hehe)
3 - Mount Nick - 380' - tee set into a mature Mountain Laurel grove, first shot is across an open utility easement for the first 150' with a manicured v-shaped safe zone (that's right - ob outside of the safe zone - stroke AND distance is your penalty!!), then into the tree line with a preferred entry point cleared to 25'. Another slight bend to the right. Another cluster awaits-you may go to either side - many guardians along the way........
**the key to 2 and 3 is placement of the tee shot - many a manly man will be crying like babies with an overly forceful errant first throw. Very little room for error and SHMUTZ awaits immediately off fairways.
4 - Son of a Beech - 198' - ace run #1 - straight shot with the pin that is
seemingly set between two beautiful beech trees when actually the tree on the right is 25' further back than the other. Fun stuff!!
5 - SHMUTZy's Revenge - 1356' - narrow fairway - 15' - for the first 500', then a sharp dogleg left for the next 500' - fairway opening to 16', sharp dogleg right for last approach to extremely well guarded pin. Four will be a good score here, Danny would be proud.
6 - 9 to follow..........................

In the spirit of all Greater Hartford courses (thus far) Hole #4 will be an ace run. Those Beeches are big and beautiful. In fact the name of this hole was proposed for hole #3 at Wickham, but it was categorically rejected. I'm glad the moniker will surface in worthy fashion
Long Live SHMUTZ!

Is anyone heading to the "Thorn" ro do some work today? I should have some time either after 2:30 or after 5:30 and can meet anyone there. The conditions are ideal for working...cool and cloudy.
I have a set of loppers, yank gloves, and a grass whip and I'm ready to go to towne!. Yeehah!
Lick or Nick, what are some of the areas that need work?

150' of fairway #5 cut and cleared up to the "Chia-Arch" .
Lick and Lap met up with me at around 5:30, and after a coupla hours of hauling, weeding, and snipping we played holes 1 and 2 with a ching portable. Unfortunately we probably threw some of the best drives we ever will on it, but hopefully we can reproduce that at the lIcKaThOn!
FERNS!!! It's no wonder why they've survived for millions of years...they cover just about every spot of the previously cleared fairways. Fortunately they go down easily, but keeping the Ferns tamed will be a challenge.
I'll be looking to to a weekly Friday afternoon workday at the Thorn until it's complete for anyone interested...
