Greetings All,

On Saturday, June 11th, in scorching 94-degree heat my troop, volunteers, and myself put together the nine-hole disc golf course. It took nine hours to setup, probably because our auger hit rocks, ledge, and roots, one in which it got stuck and we had to dig six holes around it just to get that auger out. The next day, Sunday, I went back with a couple of scouts and we attached the baskets in hot and humid conditions. We played the course for the first time. I feel I’m going to need a lot of practice at this sport, for it is a much harder activity than simply throwing a regular Frisbee. The following Saturday, June 18, we all went out to the course and attached the signs to the posts, which were installed the week before, and played the course again (I did much better this time). Over the summer I plan on adding some more things to my course, such as a welcome sign with the rules sign on it as well as the visual overview of the entire course, and benches. Sometime in late summer early fall, I will have the opening ceremony for my course to which you will all receive an invitation. I will be ordering the EDGE program, which is the instructional material for schools to enable them to teach the sport of disc golf to their students. I will donate this program to the North Smithfield High school as they intend to incorporate this activity into their physical education curriculum starting in the fall.
