For Women Only
This thread can be for anything we as women want. I figured we can use the Women's Bag Tags thread for that puropse, and this for other topics.
So to start it off....what drivers do you ladies use?

Good call with the woman only thread
Drivers::
concidering I am a flicker only, I stick with the Roadrunner and Sidewinder as my main drivers. Weight being around 167/168 works well for me.
One of these days I will learn to throw backhand. I have tryed and tryed but for some reason I just cant get the power and the release to agree, i either throw behind me
or i dont have enough power to make the disc sail.. So for right now I'll stick with the flick (it works for me).
Any advise for learning backhand?? I have had some pro's even try to help me (male pro's), so maybe some help from some woman will be better

can we talk about feminine products?
just kidding. thought i would get all of the boys off this thread.
the plastic:
pink 167 champ valk named "pinky". the go-to, bring-it-home, driver of all time
red 170 pro starfire recently returned to me beat to heck
white 170 star sidewinder that's just a little too flippy, but holds anny drive lines like butta. good flip-up driver too.
green 167 pro wraith that is slowly working it's way into my heart
white 168 sirius orion lf that is in a lake in ohio, waiting to be found or replaced.
white 170 sirius orion ls that doesn't get enough play. currently this one's on the bench.
edit: totally forgot out my teebird - its a purple maxi 175 - dx i think... not sure - i don't get the plastic right alot. love the teebird - like a roc, only longer
and does anny magic also.
what about you, becks?

MMEEEEE?!??!?!?!
167 pro Valk, my signature disc that I lost at FDR park doubles and a kind and generous man named Gregg returned it to me in Philly no less!
168 Champion Sidewinder
172 Champion TeeBird- for those sharp hyzer shots
172 XL- my anhyzer disc and my first disc I started on.
Also have Star Leopard, DX Wraith in my bag that I do not use. Not sure how to throw them yet.
Seems like we are busy ladies at work today. Haha

...grip it like you don't want anyone to take it from you (literally, it works), stand at the front of the tee (no approach steps) foot perpendiclar to line of flight, and in the lovely words of dan "connect the dots" i.e. pull the disc across your chest nipple-high. i can say nipple, right? you only need ~50% arm speed when you get the disc to the center of your body... then snap to 100% arm speed at the point of release.

drivers:
169 red pro valkerie (nickname, lady val). I have a pink one too, thanks to Carrie Driscoll), another one is in the x-mas trees at Maple Hill and a new tye-dye one waiting to be used.
169 roadrunner: love this for shorter tee shots (#6 in Northampton)-anything shorter that needs to flip right or stay straight.
169 T-Rex (thanks to Daniel Marcus). Great for those shots I want to come back left. For me, it's my most predictable one in the wind. I've gotta get me another one of these.

Great advice Heather, thank you... I just need to practice practice practice this. Prefrably in an open field. In my backyard at home I seem to hit the house and the vehicles to much
I have tryed this method as it does work, I think I just need to know the correct release point for myself and have more confidence with this method. Im so used to flicking that anything else seems uncomfortable to me.
Oh yea im realy busy here at work, cant ya tell. ha ha

Yes they can, but only encouragement from them.
We can help you out with the backhand if you help us out with the forehand. I have been trying to throw forehand, but it is a little difficult. I use a Teebird b/c that is my most overstable disc.
Im sure most of us will be playing together during the Buff Dubz, so hopefully we can learn something from each other

leslie wrote:what do you women do to get in "golf shape"? Any upper body/core workout that I could do to get stronger and throw farther?
This whole winter thing is a bit tough on the body--getting a bit soft. . .
Thats a very good question. I wonder the same thing. I have a Boflex at home (that I dont use), I was told that is a great workout that will strengthen your arms/muscles. So yea I would think upper body workout is key to getting stronger and throwing farther (just not sure on the type of workout).
To stay in shape running is great too to keep your legs strong for the walking/endurence part.
I really need to get back to the gym, what a difference I feel when I workout everyday. This is on my top things to do right now as I quit smoking recently and that will def add pounds to my already winter pounds.

I do agree yoga is great for overall strength. I feel that disc golf is huge on the core of your body. It may sound crazy and childish, but I hula hoop. It is great for the abs. I made an adult size hoop for myself and I hoop for about 45 min in my bedroom listening to music. Lifting weights is also good to keep your arm strength.
I'm SO happy to see that we have 5 women teams for Buff doubles. Any other takers?

i'm pretty ripped... ha. i do yoga too. about 10 half-hour sessions/month. i don't train for golf purposes but rather general well-being and [indoor] climbing. i'll still share. so, yeah climbing! talk about forearm-shoulder-core-grip-mental strength and balance. i'll typically do sets that add up to ~300-500 push ups/week. plus abs if i'm not lazy. abs are pretty key for balance and footwork (which lacks in my golf game). after all that, according to the pull-up bar at tolland, i can only do like 3 pull-ups... none if i have my golf bag on.
leslie out-drives me. maybe i should do something with firewood. and yeah it's precipitating down here too. sadly, i cannot see the river & sound & lighthouse from my office/lab. speaking of... i should get back to work.

rain, wind, two kids, no school = major cabin fever. So, I just did like 5 push-ups (in a row!!)(Heather 500 a week? wow!), plank for almost 30sec. and a couple "supermans".
Here's a good post http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7 ... -0,00.html
maybe I can motivate to do some of those things, although I think the days of ripped abs are long gone—wait a minute—I never had them.
I always like to have the goal of a routine, (esp. someone else's!). I'd be more than happy to share one of my workouts, but it's not nec. focused on golf, but really want to be.
Okay, another question for those winter days like today: how can I simulate good putts without having a basket in my house--is it possible?

i'd like to take this opportunity to post a new personal best. yes, an accomplishment not to be overlooked. yesterday at tolland i did a pull-up with my golf bag on.
ladies, how are your weekends going?
i think we're trying to recruit for doubles at cranbury next weekend... saturday-ish. erica also mentioned maybe a tag round 2/24 at tolland. but that convo might be better suited for our other thread.
leslie, please explain superman.

Can someone explain what Yoga really is and what it does for your body? Can it make you lose weight?
Is it easier than Pilates?
I have been studying yoga for a few years now. There are many different styles and what/how you learn will vary greatly from studio to studio.
There are poses (asanas) that you learn and they each have different physical and mental benefits associated with them. A lot of focus is placed on controlled breathing (prana-yama) while performing the asanas. Yoga strengthens the core and tones all parts of the body through practicing the postures and sequences. At the end of each class there is a relaxation posture (shav-asana) that is a time for meditation.
I have also done pilates - pilates is strictly physical core strengthening, while yoga has a spiritual association as well.
OK - I will now get down from my yoga soapbox

oh, i didn't realize there was an event at warwick. BYOP? random dubs? division dubs? times? i didn't see any info about an organized doubles tourny; perhaps some sort of flyer would help attract NEFAladies.
is it an ice bowl? .....or does one leave their compulsive need for details behind and just show up with discs and money and throw plastic things at metal things?
never been to warwick.
