Second Merrells. Hook them up with some superfeet insoles.
Don't play disc golf to relax, relax to play disc golf.

Absolutely! I have a pair of Merrel boots I wear golfing and they are intense. Almost two and half years old and they're still doing great. I'm thinking of getting a pair of shoes from them. Like a walking/hiking shoe.

Are you serious? I dont see how that will help. In the summer wearing thick socks that would s*ck.

They have superfeet at REI and EMS. Get the green ones. They cost about $30. Then you have to trim them up by putting the current insole on top and cutting to size. Well worth the investment.

Not necessarily thick socks. But they matter a lot. I used to hike all the time with scouts and I can tell you that cotton socks are the worst for dozens of reasons.

Something like that is ideal.

ouch x deux...
Bob,
You didn't specifically state if you got shin splints or are affected by shin splints ONLY during your disc golfing or not. If yes, then people's suggestions about what shoes to buy for wearing DURING disc golfing make sense. If you got them / have them ALL the time, icing them down may help or wearing sandals / bare feet / aqua-socks more often (to change the angles / stresses on your shins) may be the ticket. And of course (and which is never a real option) the doctor will say 'stay off your feet'...duh!

Hi Karl,
This is my first time ever getting a shin splint. It started on the course 2 weeks ago, only on my front foot when throwing righty. If I take 2 days off It doesnt hurt walking or doing normal activities but once I throw a couple of drives I can feel it come back. Ill take your advice, hopefully ths works.

Hey Buttons. Nice finally meeting the assassin in the extra doubles match Sunday.
I mentioned this stretch learned in X-country in HS, and practiced over the years if my shins ever gave me a problem when I was running regularly.
To review: sitting on the ground, take the bad leg and cross it over the outstretched good leg in a figure 4. Then slowly twist your foot up (towards you) while keeping it perpendicular to that leg. Hold the stretch for a few seconds. Then twist your foot down (away from you) and hold it a few seconds. Switch legs and repeat if both are bothering you.
It's hard to imagine a muscle between your shin bone and skin, but you'll feel it immediately during this stretch. You strained that muscle, and need to stretch it, because the every day walking around is simply aggravating it.
Unless you changed shoes prior to this pain starting, I'd be hesitant to think changing shoes will solve the problem. Try the stretching for a week first and see if it gets better.
I don't think it's the arrow, I think it's the Indain.
