highlands of conway

Post by lummox »

Just a quick question here:
Wondering if anyone has been to that Highlands of Conway course recently and how it was. I'm thinking of making a slight road trip to a course I've never played before. Any reviews or input is appreciated.
Thank You. :D

I was there a year ago and had a good time. However, you need to put up with a few things. When I was there, there was no course map, no scorecards, or any of those neat diagrams at the teepads. This would not be an issue so much at a public course, but seeing I paid $5, I expect to have a scorecard! Also the course seemed a bit overgrown and could have used some maintance.

Despite the shortcomings, I loved the course. It weaves its way up a huge hill, with an awesome view of the Berkshires at the ninth. It is worth the visit if you don't mind putting up with a few inconveninces.

I was at Highlands about a month ago. We had a great time. The course seemed in great shape, fairways were very clean for a woods course. There are a couple nice ace runs, and a few more nice birdie chances. He has some pretty fun holes set up that play with the elevation a bit, Like someone else had already posted hole #9 has a sweet view of the mountains and there is a picnic table set up so its a cool place to chill for a bit. Pretty remote course, a bit hard to find. We ended up going to the guys house/shop and he directed us over. Real nice guy by the way. Definitely worth the trip for me...

Does anyone know how to get to the course from the pro shop? I am heading out there today and I couldn't find directions to the actual course. Thanks.

the proshop is at 94 Newhall Road.
From there, go back towards Shellburne Falls Road.
RIGHT on Shellburne Falls Road.

there is a small sign (white, I think that says "Disc Golf") on the right about 1/4 mile up the road. Take that dirt driveway a little ways and you're there)

Once there, the course is marked pretty well now. For the first hole, walk up the long drive after the kiosk and it'll be on your left. there should be score cards at the kiosk. don't forget to pay your $5, too!

What a fun and beautiful little course! True, there's no map or scorecards, but the "next tee" signs were very well placed, and we had no problem figuring out the course. Will be back soon!

What is the latest on this course? I have been wanting to try it out, but heard that it was overgrown and unplayable. I figure my dad and I will hop on our bikes and shoot over there some day soon.

Titan, aren't you a little overgrown yourself?

I'll talk to you about it at the Blueberry Jam tomorrow.

RobW and I have to be in Turners Falls Saturday 16th (tomorrow), and hope to play Conway. Anyone want in? About 12:45p or 1:00p.

Anyone know the state of the course? Easy to find, easy to follow, overgrown, anything else we need to know?

Thanks

Just played it this week. Course is in great shape, signage is outstanding so no guide needed. Dave was doing some tee pad cleanup while I was there. Bring camera as the foliage is looking pretty nice on the top of the mountain.

Look for the sign off the main road DISC GOLF COUSE. As you start up the driveway, stay to the left or you might get shot. Plenty of signs telling you to stay to the left.....

When you park by the kiosk you must walk up the steep dirt road about 500 ft to get to hole #1. Hole #18 ends up down by the kiosk.

When I was there the other day Dave showed up and had his two dogs running around in the woods. I would say that you could bring your little arf arf, he won't hurt nobody.

We made it there - great course - now it's on our "great rides and play" list - only 90 miles from home! And yes, we were the ones with the truck and trailer - that was fun to turn around!

Thanks!
