State Maps

Anyone remember the actual pdga course directory book. Do they even still make it or is it all online these days?
Reason I ask is because in the book, it had a state by state map with little flags on it showing where each course was. It was great because you could see what area of the state a course is in, relative to each other, regions, cities, interstates , etc. It can be frustrating just looking at a list with no idea where these places are. What would it take to get state maps for the nefa courses like this on the nefa site ?
I might get stuck late at work tommorow and if I know I won't make it back for B-land league in time I might just play in ME, provided I can find a course. I'll be in Ogunquit, which I know is southern maine, any suggestions?

looking at my handy 20th edition pdga course directory, I can see Limerick, Scarborough, Saco, Ossipee, Gorham.

Chris Limerick is really not worth it if you can find somewhere else.

PDGA still has course maps. Go to PDGA Course Directory and select "Google Map Search", enter the zip code and you will get a map of the courses within select radius, each marked with a basket.

I found this site when I recently took a trip to Virginia and was trying to plot a course to stop at during our drive down... It's a TINY bit limiting in that it will only display courses from a single state at a time, but overall VERY handy to have around

It uses the google maps API so it's real easy to drag around, zoom in/out, and if you click on a basket marking a course it will bring up a bunch of useful info about the course in question. Enjoy

Matt,
Are you sure you are thinking of the right course? Woodland Valley (Limerick) has 2 excellent courses and a very nice clubhouse facility.
What is it you think is "not worth it"?

a) the woodland valley course being short and technical is almost a replica of his home course lay out therefore, probably not worth it for him if he has the opportunity to play somewhere else that would offer him a nice change of scenery.
b) I've only played the course that held a tournament in April.
c) I have a vendetta against it due to the worst round of my life being played there and only DFL.

I'd check out Woodland or Gorham, whichever you are closer to. Where in Maine will you be?

Chris,
Check out the
courses page at mainediscgolf.com. Full map of the state with pins for every course listed in the PDGA directory, with each pin linked to either a PDGA directory link or other site related to the course.
From Ogunquit, your closest choices within the state are Saco, Scarborough, Gorham and Limerick, roughly in that order and relative to the Turnpike. All worth checking out, despite anyone else's negative personal experiences. That's not to mention Bellamy Park in Dover, NH, which you will also be fairly close to while in Ogunquit.

Chris, I would take Josh's last suggestion on checking out Bellamy Park in Dover, NH. Its the closest to Ogunquit plus it puts you closer to home rather than further away from it. Bellamy is a fun course that's fairly easy to navigate and the locals are really cool. I've heard they done a lot of work there recently so it shoud play well.

Thanks everybody. As it turned out I finished with plenty of time to get home for the b-land league. I wonder now if I should've stayed in ME. My spring fling "warm-up" was horrible today.

"NICE" find, Dave
...And, if you click on the "Hybrid" feature and zoom in, you get a detailed photo-version of the course in situ.
For example, in Wickham's photo, you can actually see hole 10's basket. (And, yes, that's I, the third pixel to the southwest, putting out.)

hey all, glad you like my site
in case you're curious, the reason the map is limited to state-by-state is because most webbrowsers would be very unhappy trying to load and manage the thousands of markers neccessary for the whole country. one day i intend to recode to make use of google's different icon-options at different zoom levels, which would let me load just what's on-screen for the current zoom and free up to view courses accross state-borders more easily. it'll also allow me to replace any location where 2 icons seem to overlap with a "2 courses on this location" marker. i'll prolly not get to that for a while tho, as i tend to do my recreational programming when i'm cooped up inside for winter~
mr Kennedy! so nice to meet your acquaintance--i already have the book ^_^

always! you meet the neatest people doing so ^_^
plus, before i coded my correction-submitter, that was how i chased down course corrections, finding clubs like yourselves and asking the locals for help getting them mapped.
