Keep an eye out for a permanent course here soon...... The city approved the object course that was laid out by Bob H and his 2 sons(Greg & Justin). They have also submitted a formal proposal for the permanent course last week.

In case anyone is interested, I also have an object course in place at Prospect Park in Troy, NY. I designed it while going to school at RPI. Where were all these courses 7 years ago?

Wow, that park has a really nice horseshoe area of trees around it...... how many holes, Matt?

I think it was 18...it was a while ago
It played from one of the upper parking lots counter clockwise towards the tennis courts, then back towards the parking lot from there. It played similar to a figure 8 around the park.

The latest news looks promising...........
Jhoff40 wrote:We had another meeting tonight with some of the Parks Directors to show them my presentation. They loved it and think it is a great idea. I have an appointment with an Arborist on Thursday to walk through the course to make sure we do not remove any trees that would hurt the environment. That way we have proof when we say that our course design will not negatively impact the environment. We are on the agenda for a council committee meeting on December 7th and then the proposal would be voted on at the Schenectady City Council Meeting on December 14th. We already have a couple of council members and Brian Stratton on board.
Looks like we could be playing by next spring if all goes well!

yea the ballfields are across Ashmore Ave to the SE......... The front nine is a relatively wooded area that's not used much but the back nine are in the mowed areas and pedestrian traffic is an issue.

Lookin at that map, it's too bad that water couldn't come into play some more. Might be a good place for a future "Neutral Site" for team challenge.

yeah there is pedestrian path that lines the whole lake and it get used too much to consider throwing over any portion of the lake. Maybe some winter event will be able to throw off the large hill and out into the frozen lake for some sort of ctp or distance thing but still kinda small downhill compared to hole 18 @ mightygaw

Jhoff40 wrote:Good News from Schenectady!
Everything went well and we got unanimous approval from the Council members. We even had the Director of Parks and Recreation answering questions for us. They moved to give us appproval for developing a course and to start fundraising. As of right now, we are a go and do not even need to go next Monday, where we will be on the consent agenda. We will probably be on the news. The Gazette was there and they will probably be contacting us for a story. The only questions that may arise are if any of the public starts to make noise about not wanting it. If I hear of that, then we can bring a group of people to show support.
I want to thank everybody for all of the help so far. If anybody wants to walk/play the proposed course, please let me know. I want as much input as possible before we pour the concrete.

We had heard that the city was planning to drop off "some" mulch............. I lost count at SIX piles this size !!!
Tee #1 - the pin will be straight over the pile, before the tall stump in the distance.
We're planning to use the mulch for around all the pins and as a preliminary surface for tees(we gotta use it up somehow!).

Jhoff40 wrote:The Mayor put a temporary stop to our course until after the City Council Meeting on Monday.
People are complaining about our course so the Mayor wants to give them a chance to speak. It is a committee meeting so we will have to go and smooth things out. I do not think we are in trouble but the Mayor just wants to keep up his PR. If you know somebody who is planning on coming to help out tomorrow can you please let them know that the work day is cancelled at Central Park.
