It's not too early to be deciding this.
The following is from the NEFA points Charter:

State Coordinators are encouraged to select their States 2007 Double Points event during November and December 2008.
•
December 21, 2008 will be the last day for events to secure their date within the first official schedule, and will be the last day for states to ensure a double points event for their state.
I haven't seen much discussion on the NEFA board about choosing your State's events. I assume you guys are all working to figure that out. This is just a friendly reminder to TD's to start talking to their State Reps if you want the 2x's. And for State Reps not wait to long on this.
