Devens spared from ice. Open for business.

Thankfully, we just had a few trees and branches down.

Good luck to everyone still picking up the pieces.

Excellent news, I'm leaving work in about 40 minutes to sneak a round in at my favorite course.

I played the course yesterday with Jeremy, and aside from a few horrible shots on my part, the course was in real good shape. There were a few really cool looking rivers of ice on a couple of the trails too.

Conditions

Post by Jeremy Butler »

Thinking about heading to Devens for a round before the King of the Hill and I was wondering how the course shapes up after lots of rain?
I was thinking Thursday. Should I wait and come down next week? I don't mind playing in a little mud. It tends to happen in Maine in the spring.

Jeremy, I played Devens last week after a lot of rain and it looked pretty good. That's one of the benefits of a hilly course - a lot of the water runs off. However it also had a couple of days to dry out. Not so sure how it will be on Thursday seeing as it isn't supposed to stop raining until some time tomorrow.

After we had that monsoon 1-2 weeks ago, I got in a few rounds. You'd expect most of the rain to run off, but there are some flat spots where it stood (Hole 5 fairway near Ace Race, Hole 15 Tee...etc). But that shouldn't keep you away as most of the course was 100% fine.

Overall because it's such a steep hill all around, it's one of the first courses to bounce back after one of these crazy storms.

How are the Tees? Puddles of brown water?

Ended up with Friday off this week. Thinking about heading up for a tourney preview, never played the course before. Anything I need to know?

I played it (for the first time) last Thursday (4/1/10); the course is in excellent (at least in my opinion) condition. Only 2 tees were muddy (no big deal). The course - due to it being very hilly - drains well.

Enjoy (as I did).

The only spot that really gets water is the fairway on 5. It can be somewhat of a stream sometimes. Like Karl said, it drains well.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

I was more thinking like parking, I will be there during school hours. Or anything about how the course plays? THanks for the conditions though.

When you use your directions there you'll notice there's a soccer field across the street from the course entrance. Park in the spaces at the soccer field. If you park on the side of the street where the course is, you'll get towed.

And yes, be prepared for a workout.

If you are there during school hours, kids and teachers park in the same lot. There is plenty of space. The course is across from the entrance to the parking lot. Walk along the fence to get to the kiosk at tee 1. Keep the fence on your right. It is a skinny path.

You may want to attempt a few rollers, if you've been hesitant so far. They work quite well on the lil' ol' hill.
All you need to do is tip your bag a little, and voila! Instant roller!!
