Yes I did. Carl Edwards quote is spot on,... "We'll just keep racing this way till someone gets killed,..then we'll do something about it."
Problem is I think he's referring to killing a fan. We already killed Dale Earnhart on restrictor plates. Edwards car was a wisker away from leaving the track and landing in the stands.

Witnessed something very similar to that crash up at Thunder Road in Barre VT. Car JUST missed going into the stands....

Geoff Bodine almost left the track in a truck series race at Daytona a few years back too......

Restictor plates only do one thing,...make two car go faster together than one car alone.
This leads to huge paks of cars. At cruch time and on starts if somebody gets a little antsy or wiggles a little taking some momentum off, The field tries to shuffle around them. In corners, this always causes a three wide situation at Daytona, and potentially 4 wide situation at Talledega. I've been to Daytona and toured the speedway. Anybody else ever do this? You can get right out on the track and stand at the bottom of turn 3. Let me tell you,..3 cars don't fit in that spot.

Tell that to the guy at the front of the pack that knows when he drops the hammer,..there's no way he can hold off the heard. They're going to swallow him up by cutting right down both sides of him forcing him to wait while some 30 cars all go by him on both sides at 10 MPH faster than hes going,..all at 180MPH. Sure doesn't sound like a postion I want to be in.
Ya,... restrictor plates have nothing to do with these huge wrecks. But for some reason, we only see huge wrecks at restrictor plate tracks.

unfortunately because there were no serious injuries, this will probably be swept under the rug in 2-3 weeks. Some fans were injured when Ernie Irvin's hood went into the grandstands @ Michigan then they added hood/trunk tethers................ a wheel assembly bounced into the infield last year and the tethers were added to front wheel assemblies.
HMMMMMmmmmmmm, how can NASCAR tether the ENTIRE CAR to the track?

It was a freak wreck that happened on sunday. Plus it was at talladega which has always been known for big wrecks, even before restictor plates.
Since the track opened up, racers have always complained about safety issues.
Like Solbo said, they will come out with a better fence and thats it. I don't even think that will happen. No one got seriously hurt in the stands. Go to a race, sit front row, and see how much rubber has accumulated on you by the end of the race. People have always been hit by some type of debris at races.
What it all boils down to, Edwards is a whiny beotch. It was his fault for going for the block when he knew he was going to get passed.

The plate forces all the cars to produce the same (restricted) level of horsepower, something like 400hp compared to the usual 700hp without the plate (don't quote me on those numbers)...but this makes them all max out at the same speed, leading to the large packs, leading to the big wrecks, etc...
Without the plates, there would not be the large packs, because not every team can create the same horsepower for their car/driver. A much smaller pack of faster cars would pull away from the cars with mediocre engines.
But without the plate they'd be able to go 225mph, and kill themselves faster.
At every other track, these guys have to hit the brakes and slow down at some point in the corners. At Daytona & Talladega they don't, which is the reason that the plates are put in, to keep horsepower and speed at a controllable level.

Gary, restrictor plates didn't kill Earnhart. It was that fact that he wasn't wearing the Hans Safety Device when he hit the wall at 180+ and that there was no safety walls at the time.
How about Randy Moss getting his first victory in the nascar truck series. Looks like his new business is doing well.

John, I know what killed Dale Earnhart. I watched it live. I just meant that he died in a restritor plate race,..Daytona,..turn 4 during what was basically a restart while in a huge pack.
All restarts are always in a big pack for the first few laps. What about the Petty kid that died in NH shortly after Dale during a practice session? that wasn't a restictor plate track. Don't forget that Chicagoland, Texas, and Indy always have huge wrecks and those aren't restictor plate races.
These guys are walking away from huge wrecks and racing the next week from all the safety issues that nascar has put into the cars. Plus how
many drivers are left that really know how it is to race Daytona and Talledaga without restrictor plates. Maybe 2 or 3?
Edwards on Larry King this week was a joke.

Adam Petty died during practice at New Hampshire. That track is a 1.058 mile low-banked track........... no restrictor plates.

What about Hot fudge Sunday's? They Kill people too. Maybe they should be served on "restrictor" plates. You know, so you can only eat part of the Sunday, but not all of it. I'll bet less people would die from Hot Fudge Sunday's if we did serve them on "restrictor" plates.
Conversation getting rediculous now,..I think I'll bow out.
