Willow Park
Anyone have a good description of the new Willow Park layout? Visited the other day briefly and I'm hoping to go back armed with a better idea of where I'm going. Not sure if the admin guy in charge of the course (Kurt Waggoner) is still online/ around. It seemed like the signs were off, possibly with old descriptions from before the course was redesigned? Someone had scribbled in new descriptions in marker, but still confusing to me....
Thanks
Thanks

1's tee is near the upper parking lot and goes down the hill near the boulders. 2's tee is on the hill and goes across into the opening in the trees - I think that was the stolen basket. 3 goes aling the tree line to behind the big bush. 4 is a long straight woods shot that starts behind 3's basket. 5 & 6 go across the lax field and kind of criss cross each other. 7 goes up the hill past the bandstand. 8 goes into the woods above the BMX track and 9 goes up the hill towards 1's tee ... hope that helps ....

kurt's living down in GA now, showing them southern boys that New Englanders can huck a disc too.
wasn't aware one of the baskets was stolen, although i haven't been there in probably 2 years.
this is the first i've heard of traffic on that course in forever.

agreed titan. in fact we had a group from bennington playing j park this past friday since they have no true local course.
who knows someone in the area to spearhead a new course?

Re: Willow Park
We walked thru the park on Saturday and threw around alot of ideas. We settled on a slight redesign of the 9-hole layout with the expansion to 18 coming in the near future. The key reason for the redesign is to improve safety for the non-DGers but also to be able to add 9 holes easily without sacrificing flow or moving any of the first 9 holes.
Stay tuned for more in the coming months......

I would like to arrange to be at next walk through..if possible
Where would the expansion be...? Up the hillish area..? is it still wooded to the north..?
Remember that they have plenty of summer activities fireworks,carnival..ect ect
I am sure you know that already anyways....

Re: Willow Park
We only walked about 1/3 of the total area that's available for expansion. Most of the woods are too thick to get a true visual of any existing lanes thru the mature trees. We're gonna hold off until the leaves have fallen to walk thru again.
We also checked out some of the nearby businesses for possible hole sponsors and within throwing distance is an Olympia Sports store !!!
China Wok has a pretty tasty buffet too !

Here you go Titan so you can see what we have cooking.

Once we get into the 18 hole redesign, hole #1(shown dashed) will be removed. Nine holes will be added into the blue shaded areas.

Re: Willow Park
is that walk from 7-8..shorter then it appears or is it visible from 7..?
what is the ground like...for digging..? tees/pins
the future expansion area seems to appear like a great opportunity for the back 9.....is it just thick with under growth or will some big boys have to be dropped...
Is the budget from city..0..?
Is there any high school students interested in project that could assist with fund raising..Mt Anthony High is fairly close to Willow Park
Have the other sporting directors been contacted..? baseball/football
I am sure a few local shops would support the cause with the right pitch
Has GMDC been contacted..?
enough questions for now..
Thanks again DCers for getting disc flying

Good questions that i'll forward to Tony Malikowski. He's the driving force behind this endeavour.
I can answer a few though....
The 7pin to 8 walk is about 150ft. Not sure what your concern is there........
The ground looks to be solid but not too rocky, i haven't sunk a shovel into it to know for sure.
We only walked about a third of the future expansion area because it was pretty thick. We'll wait til the leaves fall and then look for the lines among the mature trees. From there we can flag any trees that need to go.
Tony and his friend Rick have done some semi-serious clearing of a few current holes with no issues from the park or town so we're assuming that once we get into the new area, they'll have no issue with us knocking down the dead ones and clearing the fallen stuff. Any live big boys that need to go, we'll most definitely ask.

Odds are no more then 30-40 people will play event....region,weather conditions...ect ect
Rindge will only be 12 holes 2 rnds 24 holes total...45 player Cap...
Also we can always add a temp hole or 2 if numbers of event warrant it
Make it happen..I will help with Event!

Re: Willow Park
A few DisCap members will be roaming the woods behind the soccer field in search of the future back nine. Currently, all the tee signs are removed for the redesign as are a couple baskets.
I believe there's a workday scheduled of Nov 13th. The plan is to relocate the remaining baskets to their new locations and carve new fairways where needed.
The latest scoop can be found at: http://www.discap.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1478

Workday at Willow - Nov. 13th
We will be there from 10 to 4. I expect few will stay the whole time. Whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated. Bring shovels, saws, post hole diggers, gloves and whatever else you have and think we will need for clearing and setting posts and baskets.
