Is there a consencus #1 ccourse in each state?

CT = Wickham

MA.... more options... I would vote for Maple Hill personally

In CT I dont think it's a contest... wick, hands down.

Mass has a lot of great courses, but I think I'd agree with Shane on the vote for Maple Hill. Followed by Borderland.

OK, I'll bite...and risk people getting all grumpy at me and stuff. I vote for Barre Falls in MA and (if and only IF mowed well) West Thompson Lake in CT. Guess I'm a dam-kinda-guy.

id have to say that it is def Wick in Ct. as for Ma however the choice is a bit harder. in a squeeker id give it to Maple Hill, but Buff and Borderland are a close second.

That's exactly right. I'm on a mini vacation right now-playing Warwick, Camp Gaw, FDR, and Buzzy's, from here I go to CT, and Cranbery Park, Faifield, and Wickham, which everyone says is the Best course in Ct. I'm heading to Mass next week, and I wanted to know which courses I should go to in a short period of time. Maple Hill, and Borderlands will be visited. In the spring I'm trying to choose a state(s) to go on a Long Disc Golf related vacation. Thanks to everyone for giving their opinions..

if you're hitting buffum (not sure if you plan to or not) you really may as well drop down 395 into CT and play west thompson, too. it's not far away at all. And from what I hear, hodges should be close to having 9 holes in the ground too (which is for all intents and purposes, practically across the street from buffum)

when do you plan to swing thru the ct area scott? I might be able to give you an escort around panthorn and wick if you'd be interested (panthorn's only 9 holes but is barely out of the way between fairfield and wick - and if you did want to play it, you'd almost definitely need a guide there. tough finding the tees since we still dont have signs up yet. But also, panthorn would probably seem familiar to hyzer creek given that it's all in the woods )

I haven't played Maple Hill, but it's really hard to imagine a course getting much better than Buffumville.

go play maple hill. then you'll know why it gets all the votes

I have to say LICK'S LINKS as best CT course, but then again, I'm biased. If Wick offered Jello shots between holes....

I haven't played the MH course either, but I've seen the DVD. I also can't imagine that so many people would pimp a course that isn't all that and a bag of chips.

Buffumville is wonderful, but there's critiques that can be made if you want to get super analytical about it. Things like crossing fairways, holes running close together, (poor shots encroaching on other fairways) few alternate tees, and hole#20. If it's still got the same tee and plays to the long pin, hole#20 is one of the most awkward holes I've ever come across in 125+ courses and 10 years in the sport.

Okay maybe some of you may consider me unqualified to judge since I've only played four CT courses. (Hero's, Wickham, Panthorn, Lick's)

However I gotta say Hero's course rocks! Great piece of land, good variety of holes, fantastic design, smart use of OB and risk/reward factors. I've played around 65 courses in 18 different states and I'm thinking this makes it into the top ten.

Lick's is definately a blast to play, but considering it's only open to play for a select few one day per year, you can't really put it in the running. However I do highly reccommend playing it if you can find a way into the Lickathon. Warning: with all the alcoholic distractions it maybe hard to stay sober for more than the first three holes.

In my heavliy biased opinion, I put Borderland as #1 in MA. Some people may be wondering why I would put that before Maple Hill and the answer is simple. Borderland is my home course. Seeing as that I play at least 3 rounds a week there and have put my fair share of time into working on the course, it better be the best course in MA.

I have nothing agaisnt Maple Hill other than the fact that it is 100 miles from my house. Plus its really close to that Pyramids place. Pyramids has this creepy guy that walks around in sweat pants with shorts over them. Oh wait... im just thinking of Jasons' poor sense of style. Then again, if I had disc golf pro shop in my basement I guess I would be cool enough to create my own style.

After scoring all day at the MSDGC, Doot and I set out at around 6 PM to play Maple Hill for my first time. After ten years in disc golf and over 150 courses in the U.S. and Canada, it's such an awesome feeling to still be blown away by a disc golf course. There's not many courses in the world that I would qualify as stunningly beautiful, but Maple Hill is certainly one of them. The combination of forest, Christmas trees, water hazards, huge elevation changes, animal life (I saw a beaver swimming, how often do you see that on a disc golf course?) and the idyllic setting made for a course that took my breath away on every teepad. How fortunate we are to be able to enjoy such a jaw-droppingly beautiful piece of land, and have the opportunity to chuck plastic across it. 8)

As far as I have seen only one course in MA offers
2 great layouts
practice basket
ample parking
allows beer(and more)
if you lose it-you will get it back-ALWAYS!
bathroom
Fire pit
practice tee box
Incredible pro shop
a pool for the hot days
DDC
and all this for a measly Finsky

oh, ya I like West Thompson for CT (5 minutes from my house), Never played Wick..

wick in Ct..hands down...can't wait to check out the one in tolland though

So many different courses in MA..each unique and challenging in its own way:
For length and overall challenge: Borderland (#17 is the most scenic hole I've ever seen)

For technicality: Maple Hill

For variety: Buffumville

Best course for practicing your approach and putt game: Burgess!!
..simply because u can play more rounds of 18 in a day at Burgess than anywhere else

Maple hill is the most beautiful and challenging, but for some reason I do worse @ pyramids, the airplane hole killed me this weekend, going 7, 5. Its always fun to take a 7 on the gold and still shoot 56 lol. Anyways in CT it must be cranbury cause cranbury golfers shot the best.

"Best" is always a relative term.

I don't have enough info to vote on CT cause I've only played Wickham and Cranbury. Those courses are so different I can't even compare them.
I think Wickham is a much better course.

In Mass I've played most courses. With slight bias I would vote Buffumville the best course in Massachusetts, because it offers the most variety to keep golfers of every caliber happy. Realitive flat ground gives minimal amounts of "toe catchers" that trip you, and the concrete tees on all 27 holes helps it to get my vote as best overall course.

However, if you want challenge,....without a doubt it's Maple Hill and Borderlands.

I'm always curious what reasoning people use when they vote w.thompson. I'm not saying the place is a dump by any stretch, but... best course in ct? huh?

I can think of some reasons:

1. Free
2. Less people
3. Open year round
4. Mike Mattioli voted for it.

Mike, I've played Thompson many times. It's a nice place but it's no Whickham Park!

Usually overgrown. They have not converted their tees from the basic stone dust. Last time I was there it was not really marked (thank god I know my way). They just did away with one of the best damn holes on the course.

Also, I have I hard time even remembering it's in CT,..I always seem to lump it in wtih Mass courses.

According to Barry Shultz, Maple Hill is one of his top 5 courses anywhere.
"Challenging, but fair ". Fair ? "No bullcrap stuff to deal with". Hmmmm.

Ive only played one course in CT: Wick, so there's my vote on that one, I am sure there are other courses that are good, but it seems to me like Wick is the leading vote getter here.

And in MA, that's a tough one, I love Pyramids and Maple Hill, would have to give the slight edge to MH though, even though I do shoot alot better across the street, I also thouroghly enjoy Buff. Like Gary said, its got a good mix of holes for players of all levels, and gotta love courses where losing a disc forever is real possibility, fear
