Barre Falls discs

Post by Jim Bobka »

After the weekly flooding I recovered a bunch of discs from the river after the spillway retched them out. Most had names on them; some didn't have any numbers (remember, you should put BOTH name and number on your discs). All will be returned to Marshall St lost and found early this week .... jim

I found 3 discs today out at the BFD course. Two were in the recently flooded area off of tee #3. One had the owner's name and number on it, and I've attempted to notify him. The other is an Innova with the initials "J.P.G." on it. Tell me what the color and model is, and I'll arrange to return it.
The third disc was in the spillway at 15 (What were YOU doing in the spillway at 15, Rick?). This is also an Innova, with no name or number, but a faded barcode label underneath. Again, color and model re-claims the prize. PM me if you think one of these discs might be yours.
I'm going to try to go to the dam again tomorrow and see if I can find the disc I put into the drink last week. If I find any more, I'll post it here.

As promised- I found a couple more discs off of 2 and 3 at the dam. Both are Innovas- one is a putter with the name "Kevin G." on it, and the other is a mid-range with no name. PM me or post here with color and model.
I'll hang on to these for a couple more days, but I'll be putting them in the lost and found at Marshall Street soon.
I also got my own driver back before proceeding to throw it back into the river three days later, so it anyone should find it, please let me know.
I'm still new to this, but I think the tradition of trying to re-unite lost discs with their owners is a good one. I'll try to do my part.

I've lost a few up at Barre.
A white Innova Pro Leopard. A Innova Champion Sidewinder in the channel and a Innova Dragon in the Channel. All have (had) my name on them.

It is a yellow/green. As for the weight it was so long ago I have no idea.

I found a bright green sidewinder with a lot of iron stain on it, so after cleaning it, everything except the stamp came off. When I find discs with no name on them, I keep them for my kids and buddies who are starting out. This one was possibly yours, so if you're going to Pyramids dubs, I'll put it in the lost&found. I've written my name on it, so I'll put yours back on and initial it with a "given to". cool??

That's cool. You can tell Jason and he'll bring it to my box. I lose enough of them.

Thanks a lot.

Found some more this week- Three from upstream of the dam: "Vito" and "Alex Cowen", and an Innova driver with no name. Found another one with the name "Kurt" on it just below the dam outlet. I'll try to turn in the named discs at Pyramids sometime in the next week or so if I don't see any of you at the dam.
If you see a green Explorer with a Thule rack on it there, that's my truck.
I've been putting any discs I retrieve on a particular day on the back bumper of the truck so that anyone who spots his disc can take it then. Otherwise, if you leave a note under the wiper, I'll stick around so I can give your disc back.

"Mark Bonner"- we found your disc on the fairway of 12, where the little stream runs across. I'm sure you want this one back, it looks barely used.

Rick, Leave Mark Bonner's disc at pyramids. I'll make sure he gets the message. He's got no computer. Thanks.

Jim- I just dropped off Mark's disc at Pyramids yesterday, along with the other named discs I found. Still no luck finding my Leopard, though. Good news is, the water level is still going down.

Jim... awhile ago....

Dropped it on one of the tee's... was hoping that someone turned it in possibly. There was my info on the back of it.

I don't know too many people that would just pick up a monster and actually play with it, not the easiest disc for most people to throw.

But hey.... who knows.

They come out the backside. I am not sure if anyone recovers them on a regular basis, but I have heard of them coming back from time to time.

I really need to play Barre soon. When is it safe from gun fire?

I'm not exactly sure when hunting season ends, but if you wear an orange hat, that should deflect any stray ammo that comes your way. Also, carry a large white flag.....

There's a sign right next to the first tee that says hunter orange caps are required between Columbus day and Dec 31, so that must be the season.
Not everone wears them (I do), but nobody seems to be enforcing the rule. There is definitely a lot of hunting activity in the area, though, so it's a good idea to have some orange on. I believe that #3 basket, All of #4, and the #5 tee and basket are all within the boundaries of the WMA. I heard a couple of hunters calling to their dogs in the woods behind basket 4 one day, and I've also heard gun shots in the woods east of the course many times.
Regarding discs that go into the river, they do sometimes re-appear downstream. I recommend caution when the water is up, and the footing along the river banks can be treacherous. Also, the WMA boundary is not far downstream from the dam, so if you're going to go looking for lost discs, that's a good place to wear orange, too.

Chris Gagne, I found your orange champ Sidewinder in the bush off tee 3. It was badly tacoed, so I gave it a bath and a warm woodstove nap between a couple of bricks to straighten her out. Will bring it to Marshall St, hopefully next week. bobkat out

Lost two of my favorite discs in the Ware River at Barre. The first was an orange champion leopard last week while driving Hole #2 due to windy conditions. The second was my all time favorite disc. My green "old school" discraft elite X2. Lost it in the river on my approach on Hole #8, again due to windy conditions. Okay, in reality, I shot two poor shots. Eventually these discs will find their way downstream. I'm offerring a six pack (1 for each disc) of tasty beverages and a genuine thank you their safe return to me. Did I happen to mention I hate wind?

Arty, about where did it go in? Past the shule stream that divides 3 tee from 8 basket? Towards the spillway or away from it? I'll be looking....

Thanks Jim for the offer of help. Actually got the X2 hand delivered to me at Pyramids yesterday. Big thank you, again, to Joe Hamilton. Apparently he went fishing for one of his discs and came out with mine. The orange champion Leopard is still MIA. That one definitely went into the spillway.

That's great; hats off to Roy 'Hamilton' Harper... I threw a few yesterday and spotted a couple in the river @ 3 as well and came out with a white DX Orc. It looked kinda familiar, almost like the one my cousin threw in last early December, but my name wasn't on it.....or was it? After a rinse and a keen eye I spotted my name, number, address and NEFA number 98% removed. I finally found one of my own.

It was brand new when I had had it, and whoever else found it figured it would be a good woods disc, 'cause he/she/it left a few chunks in the rim. thanks a lot, but no thanks........

Saw a couple of guys come back to the parking lot with discs in their hands that they retrieved from the river early yesterday morning. Asked them if I could take a look to see if they belonged to anyone I know. A few nameless and then a sweet looking 180g Champion Coyote with the initials "JZ" written in bold. Josh, if I don't see you sooner, I will get it back to you at Barre Falls V.
