Bellamy Park Disc Golf ...dover, nh

Post by Dennis Grzywacz »

Rediscovered the spring of 2002 the park became New Hampshire’s first public course. Open to the community and fee free, the layout has evolved and the fairways have become more pronounced while maintaining the 'forest' feel.

Fifty minutes from Terrace Pines Disc Golf in Ossippe, twenty minutes from Hickory Pond in Durham, and just a few miles from the seacoast the course has been installed by local disc golf volunteers....

Get a course map at http://www.seacoastonline.com/news/dover/d6_10index.htm To find out more go to http://pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=1418 OR http://www.discgolfcourses.info/content/view/27/30/

When is the work day/BBQ? My chainsaw is ready to go as soon as the snow melts a bit. I'm ready for spring. Night golf? I think a night game followed by a bonfire would be fun if we could swing it.

Oh Yeah! Sounds great. I put a new bar & chain on mine. I've got three bridges scoped out in my head and the trees all marked. I'm tired of winter!

snow shoes not needed...

Post by Dennis Grzywacz »

there are some patches of exposed earth but for the most part it's 'a walk in the park'...and if you have never played here before, the foot traffic in the snow also acts as a guide and reduces the scouting time. some of the temporary tee signs have faded do to the sun and shouldn't effect you but it never hurts to bring a map.(print one from the link(s) above)

when will you be going out. i'd love to throw a round if your interested. otherwise, i believe that some people are already gathering wednesday evenings, teeing off about 4:30PM.

SWEET! i hope we can work something out. you could also announce your tee time at the thread listed at the "happenings/hook ups"(see discussion forum index). you would probably find others to throw with there as well.

oh ya...and no problem on the reply, apparently.

WEDNESDAY WORKDAY!!!

Post by Dennis Grzywacz »

Calling for another work day this week, Wednesday afternoon, before we'd normally throw. I hear that, depending upon the motivation, we may end up working more than we play. Myself, I hope to start about 3:00 but others may be there ealier.

Hey! Wadda' ya know. It looks as if I'll actually be there and maybe do some work! No concerts, no broken ribs, no alien abductions. Hope to be there at about 3:30. I'll bring a saw and "shovels and rakes and implements of destruction"

Can't make the clean up we scheduled this weekend because I have a bachelor party.......but I'll be out there throwing some branches and bottles around each time I'm out.
What's up with the new basket placement on 8? I hope that's not a permanent change. I like the new tee boxes on 4.

Post by Dennis Grzywacz »

Hey Warren, I was hoping to get a hold of you as well because we realized that this weekend may not have been the best to call a work day. There is a pretty substatial tournament going on up at Emnan Field in Brunswick on Saturday and I'm qiute sure that most of the help will be up there. However, I'm sure we'll be working out there again soon and unless we hook up in the meantime you can continue to check here for such events or send me an e-mail.

Your intentions and help are appreciated. And as far as hole 8 goes, it's just another pin option. It actually was the original placement but each hole out there will eventually be set up the same way with two or more places to set the target for different "looks". And as far as hole 4 goes(I think you meant #5)...cool, that's course evolution.

Talk soon...

That's cool that you have the option to change pin placements.....I like that idea for a different look....I was just checking if it was going back at some point.
Andy and I are looking to help whenever we can.

in the longer term

Post by Dennis Grzywacz »

heck ya, placements will change from time to time. and in the end, there will be 72 different looks(not including the potential gold/3rd tee boxes). keep an eye on hole one. it will be moving back to its B placement soon as the leaves fill in the trees. anyway, we'll call another unofficial work day again soon and your help is always welcome.
see ya soon.

we've got the final approval from the watershed folks to build the three smaller bridges across holes #, 7, & 8. We hope have them in by the end of June(?) as well as completed fairway signs. consequently, expect a 'work day' plea to be posted here soon..

sorry you all missed the bonfire. i didn't know it was going to happen myself. i just happened to go out there yesterday and was somewhat dissappointed myself to see it burning but the superintendent of parks and rec. needed it gone before 'CAMP SUN & FUN' starts.
the other issue was a fire permit not being issued throughout the spring season; however, all the rain was justification to grant one. given such time constraints Gary(super.) had to take advantage of the opportunity to get rid of it. the cool thing is, the woodpiles are gone between holes# 1 & 10 and that's cool regardless.

Hey Dennis,

I was thinking about going down for a game this afternoon. How many holes have baskets?
I've only played a full round once there. Which holes are object holes?

Good Work out there...had a nice round. Nice to see the locks on the baskets. As I remember, there had been a few stolen basket instances. The white and blue directionals are very helpful

you come back now ya' hear...

Post by Dennis Grzywacz »

thanks, from all of us. and ya, we had a few baskets walk off but i'm sure they took with them a crap load of karma. nothing YET has come of those lost baskets but we've put them behind us. we still welcome any leads and would like to make things 'right' but we are now looking forward.

the locks you saw were always fastened from the moment they were installed. the bastards disassembled them and slid them out of their ground sleeves, leaving the collar locked to the sleeve.(take a moment and envision that one) it was quite a discouraging day. the process took NO brainwork but the person(s) had to be smarmy self centered bastards. the baskets have since been welded appropriately, still allowing them to have different sleeve placements.

and as far as the blue and white arrows... my dad's creations. thanks dad.

course map

Post by Dennis Grzywacz »

I thought she did a good job with it as well. i wish they could have listed some of the names i gave them but apparently the list was too long and the space was utilized with other stuff. However, at the risk of leaving out individuals I have reluctantly tried to put together a list of individuals whom have made more than average impacts thus far.

Special Thanks to:
(listed in no particular order)

Gary Bannon(parks and rec. superintendent)

Michelle(my mish) Rioux

Niel Moore(owner Neil’s Glass and More)

Tom Nierwicki

Greg Letellier

Mom & Dad Grzywacz

Abe Door(parks and rec. associate)

Rich Reilly

Dave Leary

Chris(tex) Long(terrace pines disc golf manager)

BrianDechant

Joe Persechino

Scott Connell

Bob Belmoure

Gordy Adell

Schraepfer

Warren

and may more …THANKS ALL!!!

have you checked the article since the online map had been added? it's a little fuzzy but it works. although the new signs reduced the need for having a guide it will still greatly reduce the scouting for those newer visitors: http://www.seacoastonline.com/news/dover/coursemap.pdf

Just played a nice solo round at Bellamy for the first time this year. Also the first time since baskets arrived. Course looks great. I shot 7 deuces (!!) but had a 7 on 11 and another bogey. A little far from Concord, NH for Tags, but I am definately motivated to return. Thanks, Dennis and Company, for all your hard work!

Ahhh- hole 11.... I've found that if I throw a big anhyzer out over the river from the blue tee, it will curve right around the 3 big trees, float up the hill, and slide right in under the basket. I then pick up the disc and place it in the basket for an easy birdie.
This, of course only happens at night. When I am sleeping.

patience for now

Post by Dennis Grzywacz »

nice! and thanks for the good words DougB, glad you had a good time.

hole 11? never heard of it. it's only a matter of time before we get rid of that thinner tree in the center of the group. if your not familar with it then try driving again. go ahead try it again. if, just after you throw it, you find your disc to be perfect and right where you wanted to huck it, chances are you about to hit the exact tree of frustration. anyway it'll be gone soon. but for now, patience and laying up to the left of the group either below or above on the ridge will leave you with an approachable shot for par. there are 'easier pars' and there are 'tougher pars'. this ones not easy, at all, but do-able. on the map it is listed as a par four so as not to discourage the common golfer.
