Which system is better? Can a PS3 play online with an Xbox 360, or are they system specific?

I love first person shooters and have never played an online game before.

System specific, PS3 is free to play online and have to pay for xbox... I THINK. PS3 is free I know that much and plays blue ray DVDs. Heard stories about the xbox red light of death? ps3 is the way to go. Butt... neveer owned a xbox

Let me offer you the opposite side of the coin from Mister Barnett. Though he loves his PS3 and I respect his choice in both gaming and in men, XBOX is the system of choice for the vast majority of programmers because it is an easier platform to write for. This is the reason that every major game is really made for the xbox and then "ported" to the ps3. What this leads to is better game play and better things like shading and overall appearance to the xbox version. You do have to pay to play online, however with that subscription you can also have access to Netflix's instant queue and instantly watch thousands of movies in HD including televisions series through your xbox. The netflix membership is required but its like 10 bucks a month and you should have one anyways cause netflix is the [bleep]. The ring of death is a possibility but it has never happened to me. Take good care of your system and you should be fine. And to finally answer your question Ekap, Xboxers cannot play online with PS3ers.

zune if you wanna rent movies. Ps3 is free online however MS has online play locked down, far superior...Xbox all the way..

The RROD is now a thing of the past if you buy a new system..

EKAP....this is real simple. With the price drop its PS3 all the way. They got netflix. They got free innanet ( which u pay for on the box ). They got blu ray. The PS3 also has exclusives like Metal gear, Killzone 2, uncharted 1 and 2, little big planet, God of War, and Gran Turismo 5 just to name a few.

Xbox has nothing great thats exclusive besides Halo and maybe gears of war.

Easy decision

Was thinking of buying an xbox 360. I checked out some listings for used gaming systems on Craigslist just to do some research and found nearly every listing was someone trying to sell their xbox 360...most listed them as broken but fixable

Didn't see a single post from someone trying to sell their PS 3. I know that CL isn't the barometer for which gaming system is better, but it did raise a red flag w me. Someone mentioned that the RROD is fixed in the new xbox 360 units....what was the problem and has it really been fixed?

Not much into online gaming, so I'm just looking for which one is more reliable and will last longer.

I heard the rrod came from the xbox getting too hot and there are some weak solder joints that come apart. I also heard that if you wrap a towel around it after the rrod it may come back to life by softening up the solder joints again for a better connection. This is all just stuff i've read as I have a PS3 and had no issues with it in the year I've had it.

The original problem was the cpu has a layer of thermal paste between it and the heat exchanger. This layer was breaking down when it got too hot, the xbox has a senor in it that shuts it down if it gets too hot..(rrod) That being said MS has fixed that problem on all new systems that have been produced in the last year or so..There is now a falcon chip in newer xbox's and they also put in a bigger heat exchanger. RROD should now be a thing of the past..PS3 is a good system, it's more geared towards sport and racing then it is towrds first person shooters or RPG's..

MS did step up and extend thier warranty. They are really good about fixing them for free..The rrod cost like $50 to fix, or about $5 if you know how to do it yourself..

CODMW2 is amazing, I'm on Xbox gamer tag: ShatterBox

If there is anyone that has the RROD problem and it is out of warranty let me know I have fixed 2 of the RROD on my friends Xbox and they work perfectly now.

I know the fix it's really easy and cost about $8 bucks to do.

New xbox's don't fail like the old ones. It's hard to argue against the PS3 for what you get (Blu-Ray, built-in wireless). PS3 is a bit behind on the online, streaming media, etc., but it's coming. I have an xbox and love it. I think the game selection on the xbox is better.

Both are coming out with "sense controller" technology. XBOX is Natal which is a 3-D camera. PS3 has a motion controllerthat is used with the cam.
