Until they bust out on the right side for a right handed thrower. Mine did after 4 months.

Put it this way, I've tried Merrell, Garmont, Keen, The North Face, all of them.. they all break down eventually. Just the wear and tear from disc golf. They are never going to last forever.

If your wanting a recommendation for a shoe to play disc golf in, my choice as a player for the past 5 years has been Salomon. They(for me) have been a solid, very comfortable and light weight(which for me is HUGE) shoe for disc golf. I would recommend going with a light weight trail running type of shoe over a larger, heavier boot..but depends on your preference.

I just wore out a set of Columbia CoreTek hikers that i've used exclusively for disc golf for the past TWO summer seasons(April thru the 1st snowfall). The main reason they need replacing is because the tread is wore out. The uppers are just starting to wear thru in a couple spots.

I'll be looking at what Columbia has to offer this year. 8-)

Mine won't have to support as much weight.

Weight has nothing to do with where mine busted out and numerous others I've read reviews about.

However, mine also most likely go through alot less throwing type motion over the course of a round as well.

I have two pairs of Merrell's, one is for the spring / summer dry weather since they aren't waterproof or Gore-Tex...however I just bought a pair of Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR's. I have worn them in the rain, soggy conditions, dew on the grass, wet leaves...everything but snow, but that will come soon enough.

Needless to say, they have kept my feet bone dry, I have never had to change socks between rounds at a tourney and when I got home after a full day of disc my feet were dry and happy. They are comfortable as hell and they are the best!

I will say that after about 3 months I'm having the top part of the sole on the toe peel back, I brought them to EMS where I bought them, they gave me a free tube of sole repair, they then told me that if the repair doesn't work to bring them back and they would give me a new pair. I'm glad they suggested that because the shoes are worn in and comfortable. I have also read reviews that said if there is a problem outside the store's warranty then Merrell customer services is top notch and will take care of a replacement.

Here is the link to the shoes: http://www.merrell.com/US/en-US/Product.mvc.aspx/M-F-F/12464M/0/Gender-Gallery-Root/Men/Footwear/Filters/Mens/Moab-Mid-GORE-TEX-XCR

Nice one Alan,
I was going to suggest the same. Spend the $50 on gore tex socks and buy cheaper leather boots or sneakers. They will keep you warm and dry. All sneakers are going to wear out so dont waste money on top of the line. Just but a pair with vibram soles they seem to last the longest and have the best grip.
If you don't pay or play how can improvements be made.

I got these and have about 6 rounds on them. Great support I have ankle probs in my left and haven't felt it at the end of round wearing these. Waterproof put em to the test stood in water results feet stayed dry. So far so good. IMO multiple shoes is what does the trick. If you wear the same shoes day after day and every round of golf you play of course they will break down. Get 2-3 pairs and rotate them. Change em between rounds you'll be surprised how long they'll last. I have Keen Targas that have no issues and still waterproof after 2 years. Others I have talked to blew em out in a season. Mind you this is JMO but it helps

Keen gave every USDGC competitor a coupon for any Keen shoe. This coupon was in the players pack along with a sick $100 sweatshirt.

So, I used the $ 110 coupon and ordered the "Milo" disc golf shoe. They are in the mail, so I will let you all know how they hold up. I was tempted to use the coupon on a different Keen shoe but I figured that I would support the DG thing. Plus, they have a no questions asked 30 day free return policy.

Buy cheap shoes/boots and Seal Skins or Rocky Cabellas water proof socks, face it playing DG you are going to rip your shoes or damage the soles or something to that extent. Best combo I've ever worn. Dry feet even in the worst weather. I've ripped the soles off of too many Merrills to ever waste the cash on them again. I'm actually currently wearing a pair of vented nike air sneakers (Nike Rongbuk) with Seal Skins socks, I got them for $30 clearence at Dick's. Light and waterproof, waterproof enough to not care about just stepping in the river at pyramids.

I got a pair of those, retrofitted with Vibram soles of course, and the weirdest thing happend: after wearing them for 1 day, all of the black (that wraps around the bottom of the shoe) started bleeding up into the white part, looken like abstract art. (if I knew how to post pics I would)
The heel is also a little sloppy, I was finding myself trying to tighten them over and over again, but other than that it seems like a pretty solid shoe.

It is awsome that a company like Keen is taking disc golf serious, so I really hope that I had the "fluke" otherwise I think some people will be upset.

Wow, those were quick and helpful responses, thanks. Has anyone tried a pair of LL Bean boots? Lifetime warranty... Wear em out go get a new pair...

Can you elaborate on the seal skin socks?

You can usually find them on ebay for about 20 bucks a pair. Maybe cheaper. Just don't buy the "water blocker" model. They are the same as the regular socks with a dumb rubber thing on the top that is useless unless you plan on stepping in water over the top of the socks (probably good for canoe or kayaking though).

Danner Boots are very solid, more on the end of hiking "boots". Many models are made in USA , hand stitched in Portland Oregon with Vibram soles on them and Gore-Tex in them. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Try the Explorers, 6" leather with G Tex and the famous Vibram Montagna (sp??) soles. Real boots with real support and real construction. Just a little on the heavy side.

There's good and bad here...

I jealous of all the dg you guys are playing if you wipe out a pair of shoes in a few months playing. I'm on the same 2 pair of $40 sneakers and both are holding up.
Or maybe it's because I throw more OH and FH than BH (where the BH'ers twist and twirl all around...and thus place more torque on the shoe's sidewalls, etc.).

Neoprene / GT socks for winter warmth. During the summer, I actually TRY to step in streams (to cool off)!

I like the merrill's. I put some additonal waterproofing on my current pair of merrill's and they have done great in pouring rain. Very comfortable right out of the box every time and I have narrow feet, which is a tough fit with most.

recently bought these: Salomon XTempo GTX and love em so far.

they offer me all the things i look for in a dg shoe...
lightweight
good toe protection
waterproof
excellent tread

btw, the guy i bought em from on ebay sells off sales reps demo shoes for a fraction of the price of new. these are the 2010 model and will be retailing for $125...i paid just $83 and they are brand new. might want to see what else he's got available. mostly men's 9, which for me was fortunate since that is my size in Salomons. i actually also bought another pair from him, that i am wearing right now, that i'm using for more daily use. very happy with both of 'em.

I have 2 pairs of keen and love them. I have the newport trails that i have been using for about 3 months now (im 330 and put my shoes through hell when i plant and pivot) I also have a bad ankle (right) which happens to be my plant foot. I always wear a brace but in my newport trails i feel very supported. Almost like i wouldnt need the brace.
My one pet peeve with the newport trails would have to be the sole. ITs flat and doesnt provide much traction in wet muddy uphill surfaces. But they have worked out great aside from that.

I also have the milo's. I have been wearing them for the past week now. With my wide feet the toe box is great the heel is amazing. My only issue !! Would have to be once again the sole. On the heel there is a seperation piece on the sole. That single black rubber piece I fear may rip off when people pivot from their heel.

I love my Keens and think they will be the only shoes i will be buying for disc golf.

The Milo's arrived this week. They look great and are light. Let's see how they wear. It's nice to see a major company step up and support DG. All USDGC competitors recieved a free pair. A few Pros also have KEEN sponsorships.

I bet that KEEN would like to know about that sole separation, Johnny, I bet they would send you a new pair, esp if you wrote them a letter explaining and how you are a key player on the NE DG scene.

you can get the same shoe-color or a different color up to a year!
