NEFA DISCussion

I said I would try and assist in this issue so here i am. I'm just going to lay down a few ideas that I feel could possibly work for a womans challenge next year.

1) Lets try and start with 4 teams. Roster size of 6? and minimium requirements at a challenge would be 4. Everyone makes finals
2) I'm under the assumption that Ct. could probably get a team together between Heather, Kristi... I hope they could.
3) It could be quite possible that the C.Mass area could possibly field two teams. Between Buff, West T., and Maple there is probably enough woman players to get this done given the extremely advanced notice
4) Where could a 4th team come from? I don't know but lets see if it's possible. The N. County disc golf scene is blowing up, could there possibly be 6 women interested. I think the S. Shore has slim pickings. What about the N.shore?
5) I know it seems very small but it would grow over time just like the mens did. Please chime in. Remember I'm trying to help here. Problems have arose, and I'm trying to come up with a plausible solution that could benefit everyone, as well as involve those women who could not get on a team.
6) Ladies alot of this is on you. If interested start hustling to get players, and organized. I've spoken with Steve and we are here to assist getting you off the ground

I think this is a great idea Matt. It would just take someone stepping up and unfortunately my organizational skills suck.. Any other ladies have any opinions/ideas?

Like I said some of us our here to assist in getting it off the ground. Step one tho is to get the players. The rest will fall into place. Ladies need to start expressing the interest here

Sounds like a good idea to me! I'm sure we could easily put together a central mass team.

3 would be awesome. Let's focus on 2. Thinking it over lets assume we will cap the teams at 8 players 6 must be on roster and. 4 minimium for a challenge

Well Maureen it's brought up some heated controversy and I'm assuming this will be better for women and even make them happier. Some of the problems that arose were that they didn't always get to play against other woman. So why not take that off the table and get more woment invoved. I also feel this will really help grow the sport for women

I see no reason to remove anyone Maureen. I would hope that this is a way to remove the "female spot" on the roster. If any women want to stay on their teams then they should be allowed to. I know we would be happy to keep Nicky on the roster. If she wants to play for both teams or select only one team, that would be her choice.

NOHO has had Leslie as a captain I believe since they formed.

That's right the rosters don't have to change. However if a womans league is formed and some women choose to stay on their current teams I can see no grounds for arguments next year about fair competition.

Its a good idea. I think the girls will enjoy the competition with one another. I just don't want them to feel like they are not welcome at Team Challenge. As Mike said, some have been there since the begining and I had a blast playing Mo and Joe when we faced Captain Lawrence.
The problems that have occurred are spawned from over zealous teams trying to win,win,win. Unless that changes it doesn't matter who is on the rosters.

There are some women who can compete and there are some guys who can't the way it's currently set up.

Instead of male or female leagues why not just add an under 900 rated league? I'm sure there's guys who'd like to compete but are not good enough to make the current rosters.

Ladies having their own league is better in my opinion. Not making it mandatory to have a girl on a team this year has caused a lot of controversy.

Teams of 8 players max
with only 4 mandated? Just a suggestion

Should work out fine and I know there are a ton of ladies who would like to participate in central MA. Will Matt H leave the girls to do this for themselves? Will he help them get this off the ground? Find out, Stay tuned.

On another note Steve I will never ever not be thinking win win win! If the women want to stay as is that's fine but they have to realize the situation. Over the past 3 years I have several times seen a weaker player put up against very strong player for strategic purposes.

Win..win..win.. Is what every athlete strives for and if u think differently you never were an athlete and never played high school or college sports. I'm the only one that has the balls to admit that on this board. Let the truth be told!

I COMPLETELY agree with Matt. I think it's a matter of how expectations were set differently with women on different teams. I have never said "don't sacrifice me"...in fact I've volunteered for it on several occassions. But that's only because expectations were set with our team at the beginning of the season.

I think if teams still want a woman on their team then so be it. They / We just have to understand that we're not looked at as a woman, but just as another player on the team.

I have never heard a male say they don't have a competitive gene. You must have never played a sport when u were younger or even grown up with that in your blood. Were u a male cheerleader in HS? I can understand that we had some it was kinda G*y.

Not a cheerleader, just saying that I play disc golf for the enjoyment of being outdoors doing something I love NOT to live and die on whether I beat someone that day. Open your mind to other possible opinions, we are all not the same as you regarding what makes us tick

each team had it's own plan for how they were going to use their woman/women - the league didn't have many mandates/rules around how/if they were to be used. i'm guessing that was the bigger problem.

No one is saying don't have fun. I've gotten murdered and still had fun. My point is some people are shi*ting on others for wanting to win. If you don't care about winning then why do you care what the other teams do?

I don't think Matt was suggesting this idea to remove women that are currently on teams. (Correct me if Im wrong). I think it was more of an idea based on the amount of women that have been playing consistently throughout the last year. An idea for growth in a positive direction.

my intention is to try and make a solid solution to an on going problem
1) A womans league provides the team challenge experience to woman who could not be involved this year.
2) It will provide the opportunity for the current team challenge women to have their own league in which to compete against their peers.
3) This will put an end to the question of how to handle women in team challenges. If women choose to stay there can be no more debate or arguments on how to use them. They would be considered equal and be used at captains discretion just like everyone else. No more "you guys are Dbags for sitting your girl or having her play a guy". If they don't want to play against men they play in the womens league

I want to win, that is why I compete. As much as I hate losing I just won't let winning get in the way of friendship and respect for other people. I have read what goes down at some of these challenges and I ask my self who takes winning a frigin winter frisbee challenge that seriously?
When I say win,win,win it speaks to those whose only goal is winning;no matter the cost.

With that being said, good luck with the new female league, I wish you all the success in the world.

Whatever the goal of this women's team challenge.....I like it. Let's do it.
