MLB 2010
Well, I haven't seen one started yet, and since pitchers and catchers reported to spring training today, I had to start one up.
The quest for #28 begins today! Lots of new faces for the Yanks and a few familiar faces that are no longer there.
Baseball tonight will be doing a team by team look at the roster starting tonight with the World Champion Yankees!

Congratulations on your World Champion New York Yankees, Meow.
Let's get things started with a wager offer to sox fans: Who has the better season of similarly-overpriced starters--Burnett or Lackey?
At least we're not talking Pavano vs. Clement......

WOW! Look at those Yankees!
Yankees are stacked, top to bottom. Great Pitching, a killer lineup and a bench. I am in awe of this year's Yankees.
Greatest ever, is my rating of this team. Everyone else should just forfeit their games and send their players home.
There is no way this collection of highly paid superstars are going to fail to win it all. Can't happen.
No pressure though I mean just look at that roster. It will be impossible even with injuries for that team to fail.
In fact if they do not win the World Series they will certainly go down as the biggest disappointment in the history of Baseball. I mean the defending champs who improved thier 103 win team, yeah that would be the worst disaster ever. I mean really every year they spend like 60-80 million more than the second most spending team on the best players in the league. It would be EPIC if they failed to repeat as champions.

Beckett, Lester, Lackey...could very well be the best front 3 in baseball.
if Dice K returns to form, easily the BEST starting rotation in baseball.
Pecota, Inc. says Sox win the east with 94 Wins, Yanks missing the playoffs and the Sox will have the best record in baseball with those 94 wins.

As good as those front 3 are, they still have to stay healthy. Lester has been pretty solid, but Beckett and Lackey have had some DL history I believe.
I don't think the Sox will have that much of an issue scoring as many runs as people think.
The team WAS NOT BAD AT ALL last year on offense.
3rd in total runs
4th in HR
2nd in OPS
Ya, they lost Bay...but they will also be getting a full season from Victor Martinez, and some added power and speed in Cameron. Moving Jacoby to left I think will help keep his legs fresh, and will minimize the wear and tear on his body as the season goes on.
Can J.D. Drew put together another decent year?
What's Papi going to do this year?
Will Lowrie hit to his potential?
Can Beltre feast on that wall?
Those are some of the questions i'm looking forward to seeing the answers to.

Lackey's injury history is overstated. Yes, he's spent time on the DL the last two seasons, mainly the beginning of the season, with a tricep and elbow injury issue respectively, however, he's come back very strong from both. Put it this way, I'd much rather give the ball to John Lackey every 5 days, rather than AJ Burnett. Seeing as we are essentially talking Red Sox-Yankees.
I agree with Eric also, this team will still score runs. Jason Bay was not THAT good. They guy hit freaking .260. Hurt, he was GREAT at the beginning of the year, but sucked, sucked, sucked down the stretch.. he was clearly hurt.
If Papi performs the way he did late in the season, Lowell, sharing duties, and other guys like Youk and Pedey stepping it up a lil bit this offense will be fine.
I also agree with Eric that the Sox should get Adrian Beltre to pound the [bleep] out of the monster etc.. however, the Sox main problem last year, was hitting on the ROAD. They were terrible hitting on the road last year... just terrible, it was like the freaking Patriots, could win just about any game at home, but on the road.. yuh right. .500 AT BEST.
We'll see what happens, but I predict a close race in the East, closer than last year.

What a joke this comment is. He WAS your offense until Big Papi adjusted to life without 'roids. And what happened to OBP, Mr. "Range Factor?" Oh, I get it. You pick up a couple sucky strikeout artists like Beltre and Cameron, and we're back to evaluating hitters in outdated metrics like batting average. HA!
It might be closer than last year, but if you want something other than second place, you better pray for a July 30 miracle pick-up in the lineup.

Eric,
You mentioned that they were 3rd in runs (really the only thing I "worry" about as it is the thing that "wins" ball games - in reality).
But it always (well not ALWAYS, but a lot) seemed that they'd win a game (say 7-2 ) and then lose one 3-5. Sure, they outscored the bad guys 10-7 over 2 games, but split the games.
It would be really interesting to see some sort of breakdown of # of games won by 1, won by 2, won by 3...lost by 1, lost by 2...and graph them out. Not sure what it would all mean but that's the "perception" that I got listening to the few games last year (that I did).

Great point, Karl.
They could be a very frustrating offense to watch at times. Inconsistent would be the word to describe it.
Here's a link with the stats you're looking for...
http://www.baseball-reference.com/play- ... eam_id=BOS
Interesting stuff there...
Games in which they scored 0-6 runs: 112 games with a record of 51-61
Games in which they scored 7+ runs: 50 games with a record of 44-6
LOTS of USEFUL info on that page...go take a look.

is anyone doing Fantasy baseball? online.Draft? I'm interested when it comes time...I know this is off subject..
.I'll let the fair weather yanks fans talk about how great they are...(easy to like a team that spends 200mil a year)!
The Yankee starting rotation may not be as deep as the Boston Red Sox’s but it is very scary to look at on paper. CC Sabathia returns as the ace, with AJ Burnett, Andy Petite, newcomer Javier Vazquez backing him up. Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes will battle it out for the fifth spot..I hope it's not buggy in spring traning!!lol
The only hole I see in the Yankees roster at this point is a pretty weak bench. Typically this is how the Yankees save a little payroll.

Cameron and Beltre do strike out alot, about as much as Granderson (who can't hit lefties), Cameron crushes lefties and Beltre has a nice swing for Fenway, he hit an absolutely cavernous Safeco...
The Sox bench is deep this year, and I expect them to hold onto Mike Lowell, as a DH/1B/3B fill in. He'll get time. Papi looks rather lean this year, finally readjusted to pre-steroids, the guy was never a "bad" hitter, he's always had that knack... I still think the Red Sox lineup will score plenty, the team is really balanced this year.
I am interested to see if the Yankees go with Hughes or Joba in that 5th spot.. I'd throw Joba to tell you the truth, Phil Hughes was downright dirty in that 8th inning role.. and afterall, Mariano is 40 this year, he can't pitch forever, but then again, we say this every year! I wonder if this is the year that age finally catches up with Jeter and Mo...
