Practice Baskets

Post by Sean Curcio »

I'm surprised this isn't a thread yet. I just ordered a DGA M-14 and I can't wait til it gets here.

I just want to know what basket do you think is the best chang for your buck...

If it to practice putt in your backyard and not to travel too much you can't beat $200 for the db-5

It's durable too and you can always add a second set of chainz later if you want to.

yup I got the DB-5, and added the extra chains. Nice, solid and catches great.

Only drawback is the very rough welds in spots. They will eventually eat up your discs, taking a chunk out now and then.

If I had it to do over again, I would have waited a little longer and got a Discatcher or Chainstar. The galvanized chain to add to the DB-5 is 20-25 bucks, so not too much difference if you catch a sale or something.

I got a Ching Chainmaster a month or so ago. It seems solid and sturdy enough to leave in the yard....weighs about 40 lbs, and has 32 chains (double rows). Yet, it can come apart for travel or storage fairly quickly. There are three pull pins to separate the basket, base, and crown from the pole...which also is in two pieces so the whole thing can all colapse into the basket.

So far so good. Time will tell on durability...I see no rust or anything yet, and it's been sitting outside for a little over a month. Grabs the discs real nice too.

I give it two thumbs up. It costs about the same as the DB5, I paid $220.00 including shipping.

I have one of these best thing I can advise you to do is go buy 6 2ft chains and add em to it as this basket allows alot of cut threws. Once I did that it caught so much better

For the DB-5's at J-Park, we added NINE extra chains that hang free from the inner ring. There are 18 spaces between the upper spokes so we hung a chain at every other space. I can't remember the exact length but as you can see below, only a link or two hangs thru the outer chains.
The "S" hooks were used on this basket but you can save a couple bucks and just bend a cut link.

I bought a Mach Lite two years ago.

It's definitely not the most sturdy thing, but its ease of transport is well worth it. I keep it in my trunk so wherever I go...it goes. It's come in handy countless times when i'm talking about DG with friends and I can just SHOW them. It's nice being able to just park and set up in a field and practice wherever I want.

I have two DB-5s and I love them. Because they're so heavy, they are good to leave up in your yard. Also because they have the extra heavy chains, you'll learn to not throw to the side your discs fade to (for a RHBH, this is the left) because the chains are much harder to move. Enforces the importance of hitting the sweet spot. I wish I had a portable so I can practice during lunch so that's the next purchase.

Also, for the handy, I have a homemade which works well. Innova offers the Discatcher specs on their website so you can get creative at Home Depot and make your own for less than $50. However it will probably be a permanent basket for the yard, but hey if that's where you're practicing, whatever.

I used a 4x4 and dug it into the ground, nailed to the top a circular piece of wood I made w/ 22 holes in it for chains which all meet up at a cable tie which loops around the post below. The tricky part is the basket portion, so you may need to get creative there. I used PVC piping & fittings for the skeleton w/ thin rope which I wove like a spider web. Also it's fun to tell the guy at Home Depot that you need 22 small segments of chain cut.

Home Made

Post by STREETER821 »

We cut a small tree to height, screwed in some 2x4's and attached a tire with a cut side wall to it. Screwed a trash can cover to the top and had the Home Depot guy cut us some chain, he was pissed, and it was funny!!!!

We are planning on making another one this year to help with the glow rounds (Stafford Streeter Glow Open) in the back yard.
