#5 BASKET DOWN! Simonds Park, Burlington
Played a round this morning before work and sometime between 2:00 yesterday and 6:45 am, today, basket #5 was out of the ground and on it's side. I propped it back up, but it is not secured. I'm not sure if it was weather related or vandalism, but Interesting method of basket installation - in a plastic bucket of Concrete. Maybe we should concrete a long sleeve deep in the ground.

That method of install is actually fairly typical. That bucket of concrete is probably what detered the would be theif from carrying it away. Or maybe it was just a bonehead vandal?

Damn, I was going to play the course @ lunch.
Either Justin Anderson (golfer who got course approved w/ town of Burlington) or Parks and Rec should be notified so they can arrange to get it back in. I don't think I have Justin's contact anymore but he's somewhere on the NEFA threads.
To be honest, I didn't know how these were installed, but I always feared for #3's basket because it's so low and doesn't look firmly installed at all (just retrieving your disc is enough to make it wobble). I thought that one was in trouble from day 1. Overall I think it was a quick install for all, so the plastic buckets were probably the quickest way to get these in w/o wasting a ton of man hours.

It's upright, just not secured, I didn't want to get my work clothes dirty. When I righted the basket, water bubbled out of the hole. I'm planning on going back this afternoon around 3 so I can work on it then.

I secured it and leveled it as best I could.

Vandals, I think
It was fine on Thursday. Vandals must be the cause. By the way, I lost a yellow XL on Wednesday.

I think it's water pressure
Given the amount of water we displaced when I helped Tim put the #5 basket back in place I really doubt it's vandals. Water was nearly filling the hole when I picked the bucket up and I had to actually push it down to displace the water. I think the water table is just too high right there and as water moves down the hill underground it pops the basket out when the water coming down the hill hits the water table right at basket 5.

Ah that makes sense
That's reassuring. I'd hate to think that we'd have an ongoing struggle with nogoodniks. Thanks Mr. Science
