Barre Falls Dam 2010
Still completely flooded. Water is highest I've ever seen it, with basket 16 underwater!! Every hole below the access road is unplayable.
Get to higher ground, and have a nice day.

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
Rangers have installed culverts on the two fairway walkways that get flooded, 3 and 14. Wood chips were then loaded on top and rocks will accentuate the sides to define them. Nice job boys!! And girls......

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
The course has been playing especially good as of late. I noticed they hayed the field early and seem to be mowing it more often and outside of the fairways as well. Nice Job!!

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
I was up at the course for several rounds earlier today. I hadn't been there since the team challenge finals several years ago. A nice number of families were out enjoying the course.
The land looks amazing. Field grass wasn't too high for play, and the areas that have opened up by reducing the amount of scrub that is now replaced by grasses create stunning vistas. The views are terrific. I think Barre Falls Dam is the one of the most beautiful/scenic courses around bar none. We saw some rangers working on steps leading to the tee of 17. The aesthetic experience is top notch.
Golf was fun and challenging with a few changes from what I remember even 2/3 years ago. Fly pads on all the holes are really great at every tee. Changes on holes 1&2 were at first hard to swallow, but they still play well for early deuce opportunities and grew on me by round 3. Holes 13 and 14 were decimated by excessive tree removal, and so don't pose the same challenge, but it looks like there's opportunity for reworking them. I still really dig the flow of the course and it's a treat to travel up there and play whenever I get the chance.
Played a round of practice DUBZ with James Pearson, and he nabbed an Ace on Hole #10, which was some feat. Barre historians, have there been other reports of aces on that hole?

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
Thanks Dave! I highly doubt hole 10 has been aced before, from the way it was created is naturally difficult, and coming close to parking or birdying that hole is a feat in itself.
Yeah, Barre has been through a rough spell, but systematically this course will be back on top, bar (par) none. The local dg crowd has discussed certain 'woodsy' changes, albeit somewhat sublime, but necessary to the outlook of New England disc golf.

Thanks for all your efforts. I have no doubt that Barre will be back on top at some point with so much potential there. Looking forward to those initiatives...

Barre is looking unbelievable these days. The culverts, new stairway on 17, mowed fields and nonexistent bugs make playing it a dream. Get up there now to see for yourself. Too bad I will be away again come tourney time

I couldn't agree with you more Arty!! Barre has been amazing this year, I normally don't play Barre during the summer due to bugs and mostly the tall grass but this year the grass was cut early and has been a blast to play. Thanks to everyone that has made barre so great this year.
By the way I lost my cyclone on hole 14 on the left side of the fairway in the woods.

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
WARNING: For those practicing the course be warned of a large bee nest on 17, way up on the left in the bushes, almost pin high. I blasted it this morning with spray, but they were already active when I got there at 6:00.
If anyone finds the hair I lost from the back of my neck from scrambling outta there when they came after me within 4 seconds of spraying, please bring with you to the tourney. thanks. My undies now need changing.

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
Yes. #1 basket under water, #3 teepad at the waters edge etc etc with more rain coming it will only get worse If you are familiar with the high water sign on the side of the dam, yesterday the water level was only 13 ft below that

Teepads for 2 and 3 are under water, as are baskets 10? and teepad 11? Water may rise up to put 16's basket under some water soon, too.

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
Does anyone know if Barre has been mowed. I was there last week and it was getting high. I cant imagine what it looks like now if it hasn't been cut. Anyone know?

Great question Jeff. I will be in Leominster this afternoon and was thinking of hitting Barre afterwards. Won't do it in 2 feet of grass.

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
Fields are waist high with grass, but the fairways are mowed. Keep it in the fairway, it's good practice.

Re: Barre Falls Dam 2010
Seems like they are waiting longer this year to cut the grass. If memory serves me right(im sure it wont) it was cut late May or early June last year. Hopefully soon it will be cut.

The last couple years June was much more hot and humid; the rain probably has stalled them a couple of weeks. Then it's the end of August for sure.

It looks like the mowing has begun. Played a round tonight and the fairway on 6/7 and most of 8 were mowed. I am assuming the rest of 8 and hole 5 and 9 are next.

A large pine tree has come down, almost across the tee of 13. Yet another tree coming down on that hill, that section has gotten hammered over the years!
