iPhone - To buy, or not to buy
Contemplating getting one of these bad-boys today.
I'd spend the extra $ and get the 3GS instead of the 3G.
Rumors of a 4G coming out soon, but 3GS will be compatible with a 4G upgrade.
Who's got em? Likes? Dislikes?

youre a rare breed to NOT want to jump ship from at&t. tho verizon is in for some hurt soon... their network is already suffering under the weight of the massive influx of android users, similar to the initial issues at&t had when they picked up the iphone.
I would say if you're hellbent on going apple, the 4G is where it's gonna be at but you WOULD have to go to verizon for that. However, I've also heard rumors that VZW is going to be instituting the fabled "metered billing" (paying more per month if you use more data) with their 4G network, citing need to recoup the development costs of the new network - so I can't say I'm a huge fan of THAT. It very well could be the move that pushes AT&T to go to metered billing themselves after talking about it for so long, but no one knows for sure yet.
If you want to go apple but want to stay at&t, for god's sake get the 3GS. that shouldnt even be a question
especially since the simul-apps functionality is coming only to the "S" and the standard 3G is going to be left out in the cold (see http://www.reallifecomics.com/archive/100409.html
)
Personally, I love android. but that didn't seem to be an option on the table for you
The HTC Incredible is supposed to be sweeeeeeeeeet but we don't even have real hardware specs available, even though it's rumored to be coming out in the next 2-3 weeks. going to smoke the moto droid in performance though

Wow, Dave! Thanks for all the info/input.
I have had a lot of complaints from verizon users in my area regarding coverage. Where I can access the internet, send messages, and make calls, people with verizon have zero service....kind of odd, but it's been that way for YEARS. I've had my issues with AT&T from time to time, but overall they seem to be good in my book.

I haven't seen any issues with the network...yet...I think it is in the larger cities with a high concentration of users.

iPhone is super cool. After a few weeks of using it, you will expect all electronics to have touch screens and the ability to swipe (display or scroll/move a screen). I know I forget when I am using my GPS unit especially!
I didn't see the need for an iPhone initially but damn have I gotten used to it. It is so convenient and ease to use. Apps are fun to play around with. Picture and video quality isn't too bad either. Oh yeah, and it makes and receives phone calls.

I have the 3G one (w/o video camera)........... picked up a $2 app called iCamCorder and saved myself $98.
It's nice having my home email with me wherever I go. The GPS maps app that comes with it is great too. Being able to look up something on the web WHILE on a phone call is pretty sweet.
Favorite iPhone Game? What else? iDiscGolf

At the time of that post, I also heard word of the HTC Droid Incredible (aka iDroid) coming out. I had a Verizon LG Voyager but was really unhappy with the 2.0MP camera. Too many good photos of my 1 yr old ended up being grainy when I had them printed.
The HTC Incredible has an 8.0MP camera w/ dual LED flash. I used it at BJ's Verizon kiosk last night when I found out they had 1 left in stock, took a pic of the store, zoomed in on my pic, and could read the furthest aisles' signs. The camera and screen are enough to want this.
Then I saw what else it could do. Barcode scanner allows you to scan a barcode of an item at a store and get all low prices for said item so you can shop smarter. Gotta Go Gotta Throw has the interactive flight chart. Course Editor and Electronic Scorecard. I'm sold.
My coworker has the iPhone and he's jealous of this thing. I f'n love it.

grainy pics are usually symptomatic of the size of the sensor chip, not necessarily that it was only 2MP.
And yes, as much as "there's an app for that" tries to pretend they have everything you could ever possibly want ... I've never looked for anything in the Android Marketplace that I couldn't find (within reason, obviously). the apple store simply has more chaff cluttering things up.
My buddy did end up getting the Incredible and he loves it. It amazes me just how much HTC added to their hardware in a few short months since the Eris came out (which is already on par with the Moto Droid, since for everything it falls just short of the moto of it beats the moto in another category) - I'm already looking forward to my 2-year coming so I can upgrade to whatever's out in a year and a half
Welcome to the world of android, it's pretty damn awesome.

I have heard the disc golf scorer app is cool. Ask Tatro, I know he has it.

the disc golf scorecard is pretty sweet..... from Sutibo Sofware $1.99
If you're in the "library", iDiscGolf is a cool game...... 3 different courses with two sets of tees.
iHandy Level has come in handy this past year with when installing baskets.

Re: iPhone - To buy, or not to buy
I have an Incredible on order. I tried it out at the Verizon store - pretty sick. I had over 10 apps open at once (woohoo multi-tasking!), and it didn't miss a beat - pretty powerful! Also, the web browser supports "Flash Lite" which gives you some (not all) Flash support. I also like that you can get a refund on Droid apps if you don't like them - don't think you can do that with Apple.

Coming soon - WiFi Hotspot.
This should help iPhone users with spotty 3G coverage LOL. Actually, my daughter will be happy that she can use her DSi and iPod Touch while in the car.

That's what I'm saying - just stand next to an Android 2.2 device on Verizon and use the WiFi.
