Borderland Course Cleanup

Post by Matt DeAngelis »

The spring cleaning has begun. I took in most of the winter shovels and put them in the shed yesterday. I would ask that if you see one of these on the course, please bring it towards the shed. I think the only holes that still have them are 11 and 12.

How everyone can help, no work day needed:

* Clean up all fairways and rough lines 10 ft in from fairway. Lots of limbs have fallen and we need people to take some time to pick up sticks. Make piles in one spot on a hole, off the fairway (behind tee if possible)

* Pick up trash. I have seen too much trash on the course and it's getting rediculous. Maybe league could have a trash pick up round, most trash wins a prize?

During upcoming work days:

* Re-rope the OB lines along walls.
* Touch up Tee-boxes with stone dust and crushed rock.
* New boardwalk from hole 7 to hole 8.
* Prep remaining blue tee boxes for tee pad installation.

I want to start getting people out on Sunday mornings early. Put in some time to do work on the course, then a round of some doubles skins. Start this on May 2nd?

I'll certainly be around to help out

Next weekend is May Madness III so I won't be around. Now that I think about it i'm out of town ever weekend in May, so I'll help during the week if anyone is around.

Yeah, the lions share of the work is able to be accomplished by people that can get out there when they can and do work. The fairway cleanup and trash pickup is something everyone can do without it being an organized work day.

I plan on heading out after work this week if weather permits. If anyone is around and willing to help clean-up...let me know.

I plan on doing a lot of trash pick up. Matt's right...it's been getting pretty bad with the increased traffic.

I played on tuesday afternoon and I have never seen that much trash on the tee boxes before.
I picked up an empty bottle on every third hole at least.

Maybe 1 more trash can on 16 white.

Here is something that anyone can do.
OB on the following holes needs to be inspected and replaced if necessary:

Hole 6 (behind blue pin)
Hole 7 (garden and rock wall on right side of fairway)
Hole 8 (rock walls and swamp)
Hole 9 (rock wall behind white and blue pins)
Hole 10 (rock wall behind white pin and right side of fairway)
Hole 13 (rock wall on right of fairway and behind blue pin)
Hole 14 (rock walls)
Hole 15 (rock wall on left of fairway)
Hole 16 (same as hole 15)

Keep track of what was checked so we know what needs to be replaced.

Kovo and I met up yesterday after work and managed to get a few tee pads cut before we had to leave.

I will be out at the course again today around 5. Anyone able to help? Also, Dean and I will be out Saturday morning around 10 for some work. All are welcome to help. Bring your own work gloves and waters. Rain or shine

Signs imploring proper disposal of trash. Stating the "risk" to the course remaining in existence if the heavy trash deposits continue.

wayneThe park mowed the fields! Thanks Wayne! Dean and I were out there for a couple of hours last night and took care of the fine trimming of fairways and walking paths.

We will be out at the park today, Saturday June 5th. Looking to install a couple of tee pads today. Hole 9 and 15 will be our focus. Call me if you are going to be there. 4012079838.

I will be around in the afternoons. I have a lot of work to do to get ready for the fling.

I picked up litter on the course, there is plenty. I must have picked up 50 butts (YUCK)!

Hey Mike, In preperation for the fling, consider this:

Step 1: Register
Step 2: Show up on Saturday and play.
Step 3: Remember that it is a two day event and show up on Sunday as well.

The blue basket on hole 18 barely missed a disastrous fate. A rather large tree missed crushing it by a mere few feet. The white basket on hole four may be in danger, as the "lightning tree" looks to be leaning in that direction. Beware of the falling trees!
