Buff Redesign

Post by Joe Yaskis »

Here is the official update of what will be happening to our lovely course. The mini 9 will stay. The reason for this is there are a lot of people who bring their families to the course and it is great little course to get started with. In the future the mini 9 will be revamped to have it flow better.

There will be a more challenging layout that will incorporate the left side of the damn for a total of 18 challenging holes.

Joe, I'm off to the Sap Bucket Sat. so can't make it. I can help in the future though during the week if needed. Just let me know. Have chainsaw, will travel.

Also, send me something about the workday for the blog and I'll help spread the word.

Here is an update

This is from Ranger Tim

I would like to pullbaskets and alt. pin poles if there are any on the other side. I would liketo get six baskets pulled and moved to the other side. It would be ambitiousto try and get the pads also but I don't think we'll have time. Start around9am. Can you do up a notice on the NEFA page about what holes are beingclosed? Lets pull 23 24 25 26 15 and 6 or 7 for now. We can work on moving1-6 7A 8A 9A next.

Jon
If you could let people know that the back 9 holes will be unplayable as of this Saturday

Are you going to be installing the baskets on the other side on Saturday? Will you be using the old anchors after you pull them? Or do you have new anchors? Just trying to understand the specific items of work that you'll be doing on Saturday, so that I can relay them to worker dudes who don't have internet access who may want to contribute on Saturday if you'll have 'em.

I still don't get where the "other side" is, and you're eliminating some of the back nine(19-27)?

Holes 23-26, along with hole 15, are gone. I know it is tough to think about where the new holes will go, but trust me there is a ton of land there and there will be some very cool shots.

As far as new sleeves, old sleeves, I believe we will use the old ones, as they appear to have worked quite well.

The course is going to be a mess for a little while and be a bit confusing but in the end we will have a nice AM 9 hole and a challenging 18. It doesn't look like there will be a full 27 anymore as we are using 3 of the easy 9 for the 18 but then again the design is not final yet.

While the redisign is going on please be patient. Its not going to happen over night as volunteers will be doing most of the work.

When the final layout is decided a new course map will be made and posted.

There are a few reasons we are doing this:
The recent tree work has changed the landscape of the course and made some holes boring.
There are a few holes that are causing issues to the dam, parking areas and the nearby neighbors.
The course while well designed to start is showing its age and is in need of a refresh.
The Buffumville course should challenge both the amatures and the pros and still be family friendly.

If anyone has any graphic design skills and wants to help may tee signs get in touch with me.

What up people. Saturday was huge.

I am going to be at Buff at 4:00pm on Tuesday to do some trimming and weed whacking. If you can help out for an hour or two please do so. I want to get some flags in the ground so people know where the new layout will be. Like Tim said, "Please be patient".

Descriptions of new rough draft layout.

Buffumville New Course Layout

*Hole 1. A bomb, use tee pad of hole 3 and throw to old 4’s basket. Road and rocks OB
*Hole 2. Use hole 5’s tee pad and throw to the top of the hill by the road.
Hole 3. Walk over to the left side of the dam. Tee off by road. Damn should be on your left. The shot is a pretty big anhyzer along the right tree side. Estimated distance at 430ft.
Hole 4. From hole 3’s basket walk slight left and follow the trail. It will open up slightly to the right and follow the weed whacked fareway. Tee off from markers. It is a straight shout, slight hyzer about 300ft.
Hole 5. Walk to the left of hole 4’s basket. This shot is an anhyzer for righties and the basket is located on a steep mound. Estimated Distance is 265ft
Hole 6 Straight shooten-. After hole 5’s basket walk slight left and you should see tee pad. Tight alley to top of the hill. Estimated distance 260ft
*Hole 7 Bomb. After 8’s basket walk to the left, should see mini bridge, follow trail, stay left and the tee pad is located on the first rolling hill you see by the damn. This is a blaster about 500ft to a green that is sunk in the ground.
Hole 8. Walk along damn again and you will see a pad. It is a slight flick for righties and the basket is located on hill. Too much on your putt and the disc is gone.
*Hole 9. Looks over Buff Lake. A monster of a shot. Tee pad located along rock way. Drop zone, not mandatory, located by wooden post. Play to old 16’s basket.
*Hole 10. Old 19 but tee pad moved to give a straight tight long shot. Estimated distance 500ft.
Hole 11. Old hole 20 tee pad adjusted for straight tight shot. Estimated Distance 280
Hole 12. Old hole 21. Play normal
Hole 13. Use old hole 22 tee pad and look for white and red marks on slight left side of fareway. This hole needs to be trimmed. The basket is about 340 ft away. The basket is in a highly conjested tree area.
Hole 14. New hole. Huge Hyzer for righties. Estimated D, somewhere in the 4’s
Hole 15 Old hole 27. Basket will eventually be where old hole 19’s pad is.
Hole 16. Old hole 18 at Buff.
Hole 17 Old hole 1 at Buff
Hole 18. After completing hole 1 take a hard left and go up to old 12’s basket. Tee off hill and throw to practice basket.

* indicated par 4. Estimated par layout = 59.

That may be one area that will have to be tweaked. If we leave the basket in on two and throw to that target, that may solve the issue. Plus I believe people will wait if they see others teeing off.

This layout sounds pretty awesome Joe. Just two quick questions. What is the aproximate distance over water that needs to be cleared to reach the green on the new hole 9? Also what route will you have to take to walk to that green after you tee off? I'm imagining a water shuttle. How cool would that be.

We got some work done today. The new hole 3 is weed whacked and trimmed around the green. Hole 4 and 5 got some more of the same love. It is going to take some time, but it is shaping up quite nicely. Thanks to Mike, Matt, Boliver and Julie.

No its far from done. There are 6 new holes in on the north upstream side of the dam but the reconfiguration of the rest are not done yet and tee boxes need to be built. We are trying to get money to loam, grade and reseed around tee three and move some of the old tee boxes.

Heenan and I will be there on Saturday morning to do some work to the new holes.

Plan of action.

Trim overgrowth on new hole 3, lengthen tee pad.
Move tee box on new hole 4, trim etc. This shot will possibly be a mando-
Thin new hole 14, this is the hole that as of now really has no alley.

If you can make it and lend a hand please let me know.
