Just as Central Park gets it's baskets, DisCap is at it again !!!!!
18 holes with the gold tees measuring 10,000ft is the "dream" that Justin is planning to do with this great piece of property with almost a mile of Mohawk River frontage.
Here's a rough look at the area that the town is letting us use.

No longer on the back burner.... The club met with the town last night and we've been given the green light to get started designing.

Preliminary pin/tee locations are being marked today. Should have a playable object course by this weekend.

NINE tees are marked and temp targets are in place.
Baskets will be ordered before Xmas.
The other 9 are designed and we should be in the clear to place targets in 2013.
Think wind. And big arm holes.
Another DisCap course......... Boom.

Justin Hoffman with the help of the DisCap BOD designed this course. Same design process that happened at Central Park. We were really restricted on what we could do. The town of Niskayuna wanted a wide open very beginner friendly course. We took that idea and the area they gave us to work with and came up with this layout. We will have long and short tees so that the town gets their beginner friendly course (short tees) and the average disc golfer has something that they will enjoy throwing (long tees). This is really just a step in the door to us. This course will hopefully get expanded into the more wooded and DG esque areas of the park we want to be in, in the years to come. It's been a slow moving train working with the town. They are enthusiastic but have a narrow view of what DG is and they wanted a more town resident/beginner course than we (DisCap) were hoping to install. But they are paying the bill so more baskets/another course in the ground under the DisCap umbrella is a great thing and we will continue to foster the relationship with them so we can have more line shaping holes in the future. It is open but it's on 2 large landfill caps along the mohawk river wind is in play alot. And the hole distances are no joke. We have alot of leeway on how long we can make the holes. The big arms are gonna do well. It's also a good addition to the mostly wooded courses we have in DisCap now. We have flags and Buckets set up now and will be playing it though the winter to dial in exact pin/tee locations before installing basket next spring. the town is purchasing them now but we asked them to hold off on installing them until we get the layout dialed in. We want to cut into the woods to make opening to throw into for pin locations and gaps to come out of for tee locations while maintaining the short tees in the open areas. It's a work in progress.

sounds like a great plan, i like the idea of putting tees in woods throwing through gaps to fields, and vice versa, like warwick. see you up there.

The town supplied a boatload of stone dust & 4x4 lumber. From the sounds of it, they wanna help with the labor end of it too.
The mower guy is also getting involved. He cut some sweet definition lines on the first two holes this week.
There's no address for the park but Google maps will get you to the driveway with this address:
2551 River Rd
Schenectady, NY 12309Pull in and follow the signs to the (ball golf)driving range.

More work done on the layout this week.......
#1 gets an elevated tee(and the discovery of an even better long tee)
#3 & 5 pins moved back to make the greens more risk/rewarding.
#6 pin moved in to put a hill in play.
#9 gets a pocketed green with a small doorway(like #9 at J-Park).
A & B may be added later this week(holes 10 & 11 once the 18-hole layout is complete).

That picture of hole seven doesn't seem to match up with the map you posted...can't wait to find an excuse to make it back out to discap land!

That picture WILL be hole #7 once the full 18-hole layout is complete. For now I edited the previous post to note that it is hole 4.

Curiosity got me to stop by the park today to see this.

any good "look out" spots close to the river in the design of the course.? or is it too far away?
