Pyramids 21, Saturday July 3, 2010

Post by Jason Southwick »

I'd like to thank Dave Richardson, Head Brewer at Gardner Ale House and disc golfer and Pyramids 21 participant, for donating a keg of Gardner Ale House's finest brew. He'll also be bringing a portable cold plate setup so we'll be able to tap one of the Pabst kegs at the same time.

Anyway, here's the flyer.

Would this be a good tourney for a first timer?

My friends and I are considering entering the "Rec" division. None of us have ever played in a tourney before, but we love Pyramids...

Hey Mike D I hear you, and therefore reserved 20 of the 72 spots for Pros of all stripes.

Thanks Gary for noticing the entry fees. We debate every year what to charge, cause the TD can charge whatever she wants, and Pro divisions always cost a lot, and I finally realize that to have a party disguised as a tournament you separate the "Pro" and "Am" fields -- and let's remember that these words are more arbitrary designations rather than definitions -- by a symbolic five bucks (cause Pros are all about the money, ha).

So $25 and $30. We've been searching for the perfect numbers, the ones that slide into the gap in a New England stone wall. We're still looking at 'em, eyeing the wall from various angles. We like the numbers. Money is always symbolic.

Brent gets kaaked out of his mind one Pyramids tournament maybe 10 years ago. Not many people know this side of Brent, but when he gets really really kaaked, he gets funny violent, which means he attacks and hurts you but he's laughing hard, which somehow makes it okay and funny. So he walks up to Mike Dussault and brings his foot up and, with a flat sole, kicks Mike Dussault right in the chest and sends him flying. Brent had just similarly kicked me in the chest and sent me flying, with the kind of force that makes you realize just how strong Brent is. Wrestling with Brent is like wrestling a Klingon. Anyway, Mikey D wasn't laughing, and gets up and, pretty close to Brent's face, asks him why he did that. And Brent's now laughing a little sheepishly and mutters just fooling around and the moment passes without further mayhem.

Very funny. Jason Johnson, in typical over-exuberance, once picked me up at a Pyramids tournament, after the tournament was over and I was sitting, hunched, on the picnic table by DDC and he picks me up and throws me.

I land on the ground in my same already semi-fetal position, and the only reason it's memorable is that one innocent bystander asked with real concern, "Are you okay?" I was fine just way way too baked to fight back or get hurt just by being gently thrown by my good friend Jason Johnson, who actually threw me with the same spin I lethargically went with when I hit the ground.

Random violence by creative people who aren't carrying metallic weapons can be okay. They have to be good friends, it has to be really funny, and alcohol has to be involved.

It's not like I'm making this [bleep] up, either.
