Expectations of Home team during challenge series
For some of the newer courses that might not know there are some requirements that the home course must do to host. I know these rules are not set in stone, but most teams follow these simple suggestions/proticols.
A nice place to play
Clean up your course, have some pride in it
Clean tee boxes
If tee boxes are loaded with snow, get out there and shovel them
Provide food, this of course is optional but most courses provided the lunch when the other team traveled.
Some teams took it to the next level and provided player packs and even beverages.
If anyone wants to add to this list go ahead-

Re: Expectations of Home team during challenge series
Good idea to post this, Joe. Last year, we had to drive to get lunch, which we didn't expect. We got back late and were told that we almost had to forfeit because we took so long. People don't always realize stuff unless someone lets them know. If there isn't going to be food provided, fine. Just let the away team know ahead of time.
I also remember providing food for a team that had a player that couldn't eat kielbasa. We had five crock pots with some form of kielbasa in them.
The home team is the host and is trying to impress the away team with how great both the team members are and the course is.

Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

Basically no surprises...... If you're not gonna provide lunch, SAY SO. If the tees are a mess, round up a work detail to make it right.
And if you think a drunken opponent is easier to beat, by all means bring a keg to the match.

Home teams are required to provide lunch. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it usually ends up being awesome.

Yea that pretty much sums up the 'spirit' of this whole team challenge thing.
We're gonna have fun, eat, drink, and kick your ass.

Is this written somewhere? I didn't see it anywhere so I doubt it is required. I don't expect any team to provide lunch for me and will come prepared for that. You see what happened to the team that expected the home team to provide lunch. Why would you expect the home team to provide food? It's been common place but not required and should not be expected. my .02

I agree, it has always been a nice perk for the home team to provide something, but certainly not required. There is no free lunch!

I disagree, free lunch is part of the TC. We only have 1 away match and you can be sure that we will host every home match like we were having family over for the holidays. I'm not saying you have to roast a turkey but it would be very rude to invite company over and not offer anything.

Re: Expectations of Home team during challenge series
I personally feel that the home team providing lunch (or at least setting up options for lunch) is good for the team challenge. IMO, if you don't you are telling your opponent, FU, we are showing up to beat you and really don't care about you and your team. Teams should also make an attempt to have greens fees waived or reduced for the same reason.

Re: Expectations of Home team during challenge series
I agree with setting up options, having a place and directions ready for the visiting team so they can go if they did not come prepared, absolutely.
But to try and enforce such a rule is sssssssssssssssilly. You can not enforce this rule. I joined to play disc golf, compete and have some fun.
I have other expenses that are priority and this is not one of them.
I enjoy eating with everyone, chatting, and having fun during lunch, don't get me wrong.
For a visiting team to expect lunch when money maybe tight for me or any other player who maybe strapped, is rude and like saying fu to my/our situation.

Re: Expectations of Home team during challenge series
Then consider me saying FU to your situation. I haven't worked in almost 2 years and $$$ is tighter here than it's ever been. I don't see any problem coming up with a $10 dish once a month to add to 14 other $10 dishes to help feed a group of 30 DGer's, 15 of whom may have come from 3+ hours away so that they don't have to spend what little time there is between rounds to go out in the middle of nowwhere just to get lost looking for some place to eat.
Hell, $10 each is WAY on the upside. We were as happy as pigs in a blanket when we showed up for a match and had a giant plate of cold cuts with bread and condiments. They went to BJ's for everything and spent no more than $40 as a TEAM.
Not trying to get on your case, Lefty, but it is not up to just YOU to feed the other team. It is a TEAM challange therefore it is (or should be) a TEAM effort.

If money is really that tight that $10 times two home challenges for lunch is breaking your budget, I suggest dropping out of the team challenge. How much in greens fees and gas money are you going to spend over the season?

Re: Expectations of Home team during challenge series
Pat....here is an emoticon for you
or two.
I like the fact that the home team provides a little something for lunch for everyone, and if you aren't going to, please tell the other team before hand so they can prepare (and I'm fine with it if you choose not to for some of the reasons pat mentioned). We had an away match once and thought lunch was being taken care of.......lunch rolled around and we ended up having to scramble around a place we didn't know to find something. Not much fun. Even if it's just something simple like PB&J's.
The having people over for a party/holiday comparison is a good one.
I do agree with you that you can't enforce it......so it isn't a rule......just a courtesy.
Ok no more ganging up on Pat.

I'd have to agree... if it can't be enforced.

It can't be enforced.. Sean you wouldn't want me to provide food for you now and FU by the way.
It's not about the $.
You think the Bears provided milk and cookies for the Packers when they visited soldier field last week?
Played sports all my life and providing food for the visiting team was unheard of. Not use to it.
Agreeing to disagree.

Re: Expectations of Home team during challenge series
I understand that you joined the TC for the competition only, that is clear. I personally joined the TC to play DG with good friends during the off-season. Excuse me if I feel it necessary to provide good food for good friends when I invite them to my home.
I do know where you are comin from (Pat, is it?) and I do apologize for the FU part of the previous post... if you didn't say it first, I would've never thought to say it in return.
P.S. thank you for the warning, I'll remember to say NO if you ever offer me 1/2 of your sandwich.

Can't we just leave the heavy competitive stuff for the other 8 months when there isn't snow on the ground?
Once the social aspect of the Team Challenge is COMPLETELY gone, I am out. It sounds like the end is near.

Pat, which team do you play for? Just curious because Sean and I play at Woodland and there is a Pat on the team.
