NEFA has 4 of the top 50 courses IN THE WORLD.
Maple Hill, Warwick, Hyzer Creek and Cranbury Park made the list of top 50 courses IN THE WORLD for 2010.

Agreed. Warwick is better. Never played Hyzer but Maple and Cranbury are comparable to Borderland.
What is keeping Borderland off the list? Too many long walks... nothing you can do about that in this multi-user park. Lack of water and elevation.

Ratings are based on the reviews........ most of B/Lands are 4 of 5 stars with the average being 4.17. Course #50 is rated 4.33 so Borderland is right at the doorstep.
I'd rate Borderland right up there with Warwick. Tiebreaker goes to Warwick for having Wolfe Woods.

Here is an interesting question. Who in NEFA land is actively rating courses? I have seen a few names that I recognized, but never anyone I knew.

I think dgcoursereview.com needs to get more reviews of courses around the world. I know there are some world class golfers from Sweden but all the Swedish courses have only 1 or 2 reviews and many have none at all. Same for UK and Japan, etc. It's a good web site and good service, but needs more time to mature. At some point all the courses will have 100+ reviews and will be accurate.
I think it began in western NY around 2007, I'm just guessing because most of the courses that got reviews early were in that area. All ~3900 courses in the world are listed and have course numbers based on when they were listed. If you look at course numbers on that web site, Hyzer Creek is #16 (out of 3900) and course 1-9 are all around Rochester / Buffalo and these were the first courses listed, so they got reviews early on. NEFA courses started getting reviews when you NEFA folks found out about the web site.
check out the URL,
http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=16
the 16 at the end of the URL is the course number on their list, Hyzer =16 for example
I don't know if the web site is perfect but it beats out Jeff LaGrassa's course review web site which only has one reviewer. I like the voting system better.

There is a feature on the web site where only reviews made in 2010 are counted. In that case, only 2 NEFA courses are in the top 50: Warwick and Wickham, CT. Check out the list using 2010 reviews only, it's quite different.

I know you don't like him and take any chance you get to take a shot at him, but I enjoy Jeff's reviews a lot.
I actually found someone on DGR who has very similar taste as I do for disc golf courses and would be willing to bet if he liked the course that I would and vice versa. I don't remember his name but he bases a portion of his rating on 'Appalacian Beauty'. DGR folks probably know who I am talking about.
Thanks for the history on the site Morgan. Someday I will make it to Hyzer to see if it lives up to all the hype.

Re: NEFA has 4 of the top 50 courses IN THE WORLD.
The first course listed, which had id=1 is Prompton Dam in Pennsylvania, then from 2-15 or so are all Buffalo, Rochester, Dennison, etc and by 16 they got to Hyzer, 17 is Warwick, but then they skipped the rest of NY and went into PA again and started going west into Ohio, etc. The New England courses are mostly like in the low-hundreds or thousands. I guess the site was started by somebody around Prompton who played a lot in Buffalo and Pa. It would be interesting to know who he (or she) was. It's developed into a major website now.

Tim G founded the site and I believe he's in the Rochester area.

I would hope that people can actually think for themselves, make THEIR own decisions (as to what is "good") and not really give two craps about what a random bunch of people say about something.
Or has everyone succumb to 'hollywood hysteria' (or whatever else you want to call it) where THEY tell you what to watch, what is important, what is good (and you will nod, bow down, and thank them for their intelligence
).

Re: NEFA has 4 of the top 50 courses IN THE WORLD.
So read the reviews and ignore the ratings. Out of "X" number of review, there's bound to be some piece of vital information that could make or break your round there.
Example: The HCC softball schedule link is a great thing to have if you're an out-of-towner and you have the choice of Holyoke or N'hampton.
